Voice is one of the promising biometrics because it is one of the most convenient ways human would distinguish someone from others. The target of speaker verification is to divide the client from imposters. Support Vector Machine(SVM) is in the limelight as a binary classifier, so it can work well in speaker verification. In this paper, we combined SVM with genetic algorithm(GA) to reduce the dimensionality of input feature. Experiments were conducted with Korean connected digit database using different feature dimensions. The verification accuracy of SVM with GA is slightly lower than that of SVM, but the proposed algorithm has greater strength in the memory limited systems.

Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of machines are gaining importance in the industry because of the need to increase reliability and to decrease possible loss of production due to machine breakdown. By comparing the vibration signals of a machine running in normal and faulty conditions, detection of faults like mass unbalance, shaft misalignment and bearing defects is possible. This paper presents a novel approach for applying the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery. To detect multiple faults in rotating machinery, a feature selection method and support vector machine (SVM) based multi-class classifier are constructed and used in the faults diagnosis. The results in experiments prove that fault types can be diagnosed by the above method.
In this paper, face detection method in NIR(Near-InfraRed) images for human recognition is proposed. Edge histogram based on edge intensity and its direction, has been used to detect effectively faces on NIR image. The edge histogram descripts and discriminates face effectively because it is strong in environment of lighting change. SVM(Support Vector Machine) has been used as a classifier to detect face and the proposed method showed better performance with smaller features than in ULBP(Uniform Local Binary Pattern) based method.

Recently, pre-trained convolutional neural network CNNs have been widely used and applied for medical image classification. These models can utilised in three different ways, for feature extraction, to use the architecture of the pre-trained model and to train some layers while freezing others. In this study, the ResNet18 pre-trained CNNs model is used for feature extraction, followed by the support vector machine for multiple classes to classify medical images from multi-classes, which is used as the main classifier. Our proposed classification method was implemented on Kvasir and PH2 medical image datasets. The overall accuracy was 93.38% and 91.67% for Kvasir and PH2 datasets, respectively. The classification results and performance of our proposed method outperformed some of the related similar methods in this area of study.
The support vector machine (SVM) has been successfully applied to various classification areas with a high level of classification accuracy. However, it is infeasible to use the SVM in analyzing massive data because of its significant computational problems. When analyzing imbalanced data with different class sizes, furthermore, the classification accuracy of SVM in minority class may drop significantly because its classifier could be biased toward the majority class. To overcome such a problem, we propose the DOC-SVM method, which uses divide-oversampling and conquers techniques. The proposed DOC-SVM divides the majority class into a few subsets and applies an oversampling technique to the minority class in order to produce the balanced subsets. And then the DOC-SVM obtains the final classifier by aggregating all SVM classifiers obtained from the balanced subsets. Simulation studies are presented to demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the proposed method.

In this paper, we deals with automatic modulation classification capable of classifying incident signals without a priori information. The 7 key features which have good properties of sensitive with modulation types and insensitive with SNR variation are selected. The numerical simulations for classifying 9 modulation types using the these features are performed. The numerical simulations of the 4 types of modulation classifiers are performed the investigation of classification accuracy and execution time to implement the fast modulation classifier in software radio. The simulation result indicated that the execution time of DTC was best and SVC and MDC showed good classification performance. The prototype was implemented with DTC type. With the result of field trials, we confirmed the performance in the prototype was agreed with the numerical simulation result of DTC.

A door can serve as a feature for place classification and localization for navigation of a mobile robot in indoor environments. This paper proposes a door detection method based on the recognition of various door handles using the general Hough transform (GHT) and support vector machine (SVM). The contour and color histogram of a door handle extracted from the database are used in GHT and SVM, respectively. The door recognition scheme consists of four steps. The first step determines the region of interest (ROI) images defined by the color information and the environment around the door handle for stable recognition. In the second step, the door handle is recognized using the GHT method from the ROI image and the image patches are extracted from the position of the recognized door handle. In the third step, the extracted patch is classified whether it is the image patch of a door handle or not using the SVM classifier. The door position is probabilistically determined by the recognized door handle. Experimental results show that the proposed method can recognize various door handles and detect doors in a robust manner.
A vector space based augmented structural kinematic (VSASK) feature descriptor is proposed for human activity recognition. An action descriptor is built by integrating the structural and kinematic properties of the actor using vector space based augmented matrix representation. Using the local or global information separately may not provide sufficient action characteristics. The proposed action descriptor combines both the local (pose) and global (position and velocity) features using augmented matrix schema and thereby increases the robustness of the descriptor. A multiclass support vector machine (SVM) is used to learn each action descriptor for the corresponding activity classification and understanding. The performance of the proposed descriptor is experimentally analyzed using the Weizmann and KTH datasets. The average recognition rate for the Weizmann and KTH datasets is 100% and 99.89%, respectively. The computational time for the proposed descriptor learning is 0.003 seconds, which is an improvement of approximately 1.4% over the existing methods.

A SVM is a kind of binary classifier in order to find optimal hyperplane which separates training data into two groups. Due to its remarkable performance, the SVM is applied in various fields such as inductive inference, binary classification or making predictions. Also it is a representative black box model; there are plenty of actively discussed researches about analyzing trained SVM classifier. This paper conducts a study on a method that is automatically detecting the line-shaped echoes, sun strobe echo and radial interference echo, using the SVM algorithm because the line-shaped echoes appear relatively often and disturb weather forecasting process. Using a spatial clustering method and corrected reflectivity data in the weather radar, the training data is made up with mean reflectivity, size, appearance, centroid altitude and so forth. With actual occurrence cases of the line-shaped echoes, the trained SVM classifier is verified, and analyzed its characteristics using the decision tree method.

Natural language processing (NLP) is utilized to understand a natural text. Text analysis systems use natural language algorithms to find the meaning of large amounts of text. Text classification represents a basic task of NLP with a wide range of applications such as topic labeling, sentiment analysis, spam detection, and intent detection. The algorithm can transform user's unstructured thoughts into more structured data. In this work, a text classifier has been developed that uses academic admission and registration texts as input, analyzes its content, and then automatically assigns relevant tags such as admission, graduate school, and registration. In this work, the well-known algorithms support vector machine SVM and K-nearest neighbor (kNN) algorithms are used to develop the above-mentioned classifier. The obtained results showed that the SVM classifier outperformed the kNN classifier with an overall accuracy of 98.9%. in addition, the mean absolute error of SVM was 0.0064 while it was 0.0098 for kNN classifier. Based on the obtained results, the SVM is used to implement the academic text classification in this work.
