This study examined how the differences in household characteristics influence consumer expenditure patterns. The Price-Scaling AIDS model with household income and expenditure survey data were used for the analysis. The results showed that the income elasticity of the service items is greater than non-service items, indicating an increase in higher demand of service items with the same increase in household income. The household expenditure patterns vary according to the commodities, holding age and income level. The so-called traditional pattern, which emphasizes spending for non-service items, changed to the one with a higher expenditure ratio for service items. Such a change in household expenditure patterns naturally derives the expansion of the relevant service market; hence, the growth of the related service industry. This highlights the need to formulate an appropriate response from the supply side that deals with the changes in the service market.
This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between the patterns of elementary school teachers' explanations and the patterns of students' questions types on scientific phenomena. for the purposes of this study, we collected questions related to scientific phenomena from 255 $3rd{\sim}6th$ students in 2 elementary schools. Classifying the students' questions collected, 20 representative questions for each type were selected. Data regarding teachers' scientific explanation from 62 teachers of 3 elementary schools were also collected. The results of the analysis of the questions for each science field show that the students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades have the most questions regarding biology, and those in the 6th grade have more questions regarding earth science. Regarding question types, object exploration questions and explican exploration questions formed the majority. Moreover, the higher the students' grades, a decrease in the number of conjectural questions and an increase in the number of causal questions were observed. As a result of the analysis of the teachers' explanation, the following explanation types could be discerned; conjecture, hypothesis, prediction, teleological explanation, information given to feed exploration questions, as well as verification and information supply fer verification purposes. There were 4 kinds of relationships between question types and explanation types. One was the explanation fitting to each question type, a second was the explanation with additional content than the question required, a third was where the explanation was inappropriate to the question, and a forth was where the teacher responded that they "don't know." This study, investigating the relationships between questioning as a scientific inquiry process and explanation, will help to promote discussion regarding science classes in elementary school.
Developed was a 5kW-class polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) system comprised of fuel cell stack, fuel processing, thermal and water management subsystems and ancillary equipments. Several large single cells have been fabricated with different gas flow field patterns and paths, and the gas flow field pattern for the stack has been determined based on the single cell performance of thin film membrane electrode assembly (MEA). The PEMFC stack was consisted of 100 cells with an electrode area of $300cm^2$, having serpentine flow pattern. Fuel processing was developed including an autothermal methanol reformer and two preferential CO oxidation reactors. The fuel processing was combined to PEMFC operation system consisted of air compressor and thermal and water management subsystems. The PEMFC stack showed performance of 5kW under the supply of $H_2$ and air, but its performance was lowered to 3.5kW under the supply of reformed gas.
In this paper, we investigate the control methodology of inverter Airconditioner, using the three dimensional vector scheme. The method of three dimensional vector aims at the determination of optimal switching patterns for PWM to reduce switching loss and to improve the performance supplied voltage. The induction motors are widely used for home Airconditioners. These motors can be classified into two types: on or off control of Airconditioner and the speed control of motor. For speed control of motors, generally PWM methods are used. The PWM method based upon the modulation of triangular wave can not afford to supply line voltage to the motor sufficiently because of the capacity of processing speed of micro processors. Therefore airconditioner can not be operated efficiently. This problem can be solved with the method of three dimensional vector since it can increase the supplied voltage and maximum operating frequency of motor to 173V and 96Hz, respectively. As the result, this method shows 10 - 15% increase of voltage and 10% increase of operating frequency over the modulation of triangular wave. According to a theoretical study, the number of switching in the method of three dimensional vector is smaller than that of the modulation of triangular wave. The power consumption can be reduced and the supplied voltage can be increased. In other words, the efficiency of Airconditioner can be improved. We show that the method of three dimensional vector can supply higher voltage than the modulation of triangular method through the experiments and verify the degree of improvement of efficiency theoretically.

Vertical open display cabinets are widely used in shopping mall, supermarkets, retail stores. Maintaining the temperature of foods in the display cabinet is vitally important to retailers to ensure optimal food quality and safety. The purpose of this study is to reduce the infiltration of air and heat loss from ambient space to display cabinet. The three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulation is used for the analysis of air flow patterns and temperature distribution in refrigerated display cabinets. Under several operating conditions which vary both the inner and outer jet velocities in the range from 0.3 to 1.1 m/s, simulations were carried out. This paper presents a performance of display cabinets with single jet and double jet. The energy consumption due to thermal entrainment ratio is plotted with varying Re. It was found that the double jet system is better than single jet system in terms of temperature distribution and energy saving.
This study investigates the over time changes in the ownership of kitchen items, electric or non-electric, and examines the patterns of the usage and ownership of the items after categorizing them as followings: cooking appliances, kitchen appliances directly related to storing food, food processing kitchen items, and dining items. The research findings are that refrigerators and rice cookers, among the electric items, had spread to almost every households by 1990s and at the same time about thirty non-electric kitchen items had been used. Refrigerators had been used by more than 100% of the households by 2000, and on top of that, twenty or more electric kitchen items such as Kimchi fridge and freezer had been used. In the case of non-electric kitchen items, approximately 50 to 70 sorts of them are used, which indicates an increase than in 1990s. Rice cookers and gas stoves, among cooking appliances, are recognized as the essential item, and they are actually frequently-used items. As to kitchen appliances related to storing food, each household owns one of the refrigerators and Kimchi fridges, and again they are both the frequently-used. As far as food processing kitchen items are concerned, each household owns at least one or more blenders and hand blenders, six or more knives, and five or more pans. Each household owns seventeen or more rice bowls and soup bowls and twenty-four or more plates. Small plates are more frequently used than large ones.

The objective of this paper are to present a realistic methodology to estimate the daily water supply rates form irrigation pumping stattions, to validate it with the field data, and to report the daily irrigation pumping rates from the Han river basin. Five-year historical pumping records were collected from seventy-three pumping stations in the Han river basin. And the daily pumping rates were estimated from the electrical consumption records. The pumping patterns from the stations were analyzed and the results were applied to ungauged pumping stations in the basin. The method was appliedto five stations which were field monitored during the irragation periods in 1998. The relative errors between the observed and simulated water pumpage ranged from 1.4 to 7.0 percent. This indicates that the proposed method is valid to apply for estimating the pumping rates for agricultural lands. During 1993 to 1997, the annual average water pumpaging from the Han river and the tributaries were 350 million cubic meter. The annual water supply from the pumping stations varied from 973 to 1.377 mm in depth and the mean was 1,170 mm. The major factor affecting the annual variations was attributed to the rainfall during the growing seasons.
In order to achieve stable and efficient use of energy at iron and steel works, a model for the prediction of supply and demand of electric power system is developed on the basis of the information on operation and particular patterns of electric power consumption. The optimal amount of electric power to be purchased and the optimal fuel allocation for the in-house electric power plants are also obtained by a mixed-integer linear programming(MILP) and a nonlinear programming (NLP) solutions, respectively. The validity and the effectiveness of the proposed model are investigated by several illustrative examples. The simulation results show the satisfactory energy saving by the optimal solution obtained through this research.
Korea is an industrial country that overspends energy and has a policy that is more focused on a supply side. When an urban developmental program is to set up, surveys are carried out only with the respect to electricity, telecommunication, gas, and heating sources. Based on the existing survey results, the problems related to the supply side are being dealt with more importantly and the quantities of those supplies are estimated only by each energy source. The aim of this study is to provide basic information on energy consumption patterns of a diverse comsumer groups including industry, transportation, commerce, public and household to plan diverse energy policies. Through this basic information, it may be possible to analyze the energy consumption pattern by each consumer group and provide data for setting up efficient energy policies by the government. The energy consumption map that are analyzed and developed by the data obtained from Busan municipal area will be deposited and used as a part of the national energy statistics.
The SARS virus began to appear and spread in North America and Southeast Asia in the early 2000' s, infecting and harming many people. In the process of examining the causes for the virus, studies on the airborne SARS virus and the way it spread were carried out mainly in the medical field. In the field of architecture, studies were done on the diffusion of air pollutants in buildings using gases such as $CO_2$, $N_2O$, or $SF_6$, but research on virus diffusion was limited. There were also explanations of only the diffusion process without accurate information and discussion on virus characteristics. The aim of this study is to analyze the physical characteristics of airborne virus, consider the possibility of using coupled analysis model and tracer gas for analyzing virus diffusion in building space and, based on reports of how the infection spread in a hospital where SARS patients were discovered, analyze infection risk using tracer gas density and also diffusion patterns according to the location, shape, and volume of supply diffusers and exhaust grilles. This paper can provide standards and logical principles for evaluating various alternatives for making decisions on vertical or horizontal ward placement, air supply and exhaust installation and air volumes in medium or high story medical facilities.
