The Effect of Police Officers' Participatory Decision-making, Supervisory Quality and Attitude and Organizational Justice on Job Satisfaction: Focused on Mediating Effect of Work-Life Conflict

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of police officers' participatory decision-making, supervisory quality and attitude, organizational justice on job satisfaction focused on mediating effect of work-life conflict. As a result of analysis of 185 police officers, the results were as follows. The causal relationships between participatory decision-making, organizational justice and work-life conflict, the ones between supervisory qualities and attitude, organizational justice, work-life conflict and job satisfaction, all of them reached the significance levels, not the causal relationship between supervisory qualityand attitude work-life conflict. Thus, the results for the interaction have shown, participatory decision-making and organizational justice and work-life conflict have negative influences on work-life conflict respectively, and supervisory qualities and attitude conflict, organizational justice conflict, work-life conflict have effect on job satisfaction with positive and negative effect. The Sobel-test showed that the Sobel-test statistic of the mediating effect of work-life conflict on causal relationships between organizational justice and job satisfaction is significant, but not in the mediating effect of work-life conflict on causal relationships between supervisory qualities and attitude and job satisfaction. According to the analytical results, work-life conflict is an important factor that can improve police officers' job satisfaction in the public organizational context with an open-oriented- system and culture for employees' participation in the process of decision making and equality and fairness for organizational management. It is also noted that work-life harmony for employees may be incompatible with the supervisor's perception of the work-oriented or prioritized-way in hierarchical organizations like police agencies.

  • This study tries to testify that how much knowledge sharing behavior affects organizational effectiveness and is affected by the supervisory trust empirically. The results show that the higher the supervisory trust was the higher the level of knowledge sharing behavior and ultimately, organizational effectiveness is improved. Specially, the supervisory trust affects job-related knowledge sharing behavior and knowledge sharing system behavior. The knowledge sharing culture, however, is no relation with the supervisory trust. Job-related knowledge sharing behavior influenced both job satisfaction and organizational commitment. But knowledge sharing system influenced only job satisfaction and knowledge sharing culture influenced only organization at commitment. The implication from this paper is that knowledge sharing improves the organizational effectiveness and the supervisory trust is important for knowledge sharing in R&D organization.

Music Therapy Supervisory Satisfaction Depending on the Supervision Format (음악치료 수퍼비전 형태에 따른 수퍼비전 만족도 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine perceived supervisory satisfaction depending on the type of supervision. Twenty-six music therapy graduate students who enrolled in a practicum course participated in this study. All participants received four individual and four group supervision sessions over the course of the semester. After each supervision session, participants were asked to rate their satisfaction with supervision on the Supervisory Satisfactory Questionnaire(SSQ). Results showed that there was no significant difference in the mean ratings between individual and group supervision conditions, indicating that the type of supervision would not differently affect the perception of overall supervisory satisfaction. However, a detailed analysis of ratings for each questionnaire item and comments from the participants imply that while individual supervision would be perceived to meet supervisees' individual needs more effectively, satisfaction with group supervision would be less influenced by supervisor styles. This study would provide descriptive information of perceived satisfaction with supervision type as an initial trial toward suggesting the systematic approach to the music therapy supervision format. Further studies are needed to investigate how effective and culturally responsive supervision format would be structured to facilitate supervision process and maximize supervision outcome.

  • The current study aims to demonstrate the causal relationships of supervisory support, workplace fun, job satisfaction and customer orientation of Y Generational service provider in the Korean hotel industry. In order to achieve the study purpose, the data were collected from 284 hotel employees who were born from 1981 to 2000, which is considered as Generation Y. To analyze the data, frequency, correlation, regression, PROCESS Macro and confirmatory factor analysis were undertaken using SPSS and AMOS version 18.0. The results show as follows: First, factor of workplace fun had a positive influence on job satisfaction and customer orientation. Second, factor of supervisory support had a positive influence on job satisfaction but its effect on the customer orientation was not significant. Third, job satisfaction had a significantly positive effect on customer orientation. Lastly, job satisfaction was revealed as a significant mediator between dependent variables(supervisory support and workplace fun) and customer orientation. Eventually, this study found that the more workplace fun and job satisfaction employees have, the higher customer orientation they show. Supervisory support was revealed as an indirect factor to enhance customer orientation through job satisfaction.

Effects of the Corporative Relationship with Supervisor on Social Workers (Supervisees)' Working Satisfaction and Burnout (수퍼바이저와의 협동관계가 사회복지사(수퍼바이지)의 업무만족 및 소진에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study explored the effects of supervisory relationship, conceptualized as working alliance, on social workers' working satisfaction and burnout. The consented participants were 68 supervisors and 80 supervisees working at Social Service Centers located in Seoul and Kyung-ki Province. Hierarchical linear model analyses of survey results from supervisors (n=68) and workers (n=80) revealed that the workers' sense of rapport within the supervisory relationship is related to working satisfaction. While it was expected that the supervisory relationship would also relate to levels of burnout, no association was found in the analyses. However, strong negative correlations were found between the supervisees' feelings of rapport within the supervisory relationship and both emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. The implication of future research and of social work practice and policy were added.

Do ethical sales behaviors improve job satisfaction and job performance? (윤리적 영업행동은 직무만족과 직무성과를 향상시키는가?)

  • This paper attempted to empirically analyze whether or not ethical behavior at the individual level has a positive effect on both companies and employees. In addition, based on the social exchange theory, a hypothesis was established that perceived supervisory support has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between ethical behavior, job satisfaction, and job performance. As a result of analyzing a questionnaire given to 238 sales employees, It was first verified that ethical behavior by sales staff had a positive effect on job satisfaction and performance, as expected in the hypothesis. Second, the moderating effect of perceived supervisory support was significant only in the relationship between the ethical behavior of the salesperson and job performance. On the other hand, the moderating effect of perceived supervisory support on the relationship between ethical behavior and job satisfaction was not verified. Based on the results of this study, the implications and future directions of study are presented.

The Effect of Task-Conflict on Job Attitudes : The Mediating Effects of Communication (과업갈등이 직무태도에 미치는 영향 : 커뮤니케이션 만족의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of task conflict on job attitudes (organizational commitment & job satisfaction), focusing on the mediating effects of supervisory communication & co-worker communication. Recently, the importance of communication as a research topic has been increasing. According to prior research, communication satisfaction has a positive effect on job performance. However, studies which take into account the different types of communication are lacking. Therefore, this study considered two types of communication (supervisory communication and coworker communication). A research model and hypotheses were developed in order to examine the theoretical research issues and questions. The sample consisted of 280 survey data drawn from employees in firms located in Korea. The data was analyzed by the statistical packages, SPSS 21.0 & AMOS 21.0 for Windows. The findings of the analysis are as follows. Firstly, it was found that task conflict had a negative (-) effect on organizational commitment & job satisfaction. Therefore, H1a & H1b are supported. Secondly, it was found that task conflict had a negative (-) effect on supervisory communication. Therefore, H2a is supported. However, it did not have a significant effect on co-worker communication. Hence, H2b is not supported. Thirdly, as regards the mediating effect of supervisory communication, it was found that supervisory communication mediated the effect of task conflict on job attitudes (organizational commitment & job satisfaction). Therefore, H3a & H3b are supported. Finally, the mediating effect of co-worker communication was not significant. Therefore, none of the sub-hypotheses of H4 are supported. Based on these findings, this study suggested directions for future research.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the organizational culture atpreschool institutes and management styles on job satisfaction levels among teachers. For this study, 256 teachers responded to questionnaires dealing with the following topics: the organization culture and the management styles of administrators at schools they work in and job satisfaction. The results were as follows: First, there was a significant positive correlation between organizational culture and job satisfaction. Second, there was a significant positive correlation between several sub-factors of job satisfaction and management styles. Third, in multiple regression analysis of variables, innovativeness in the organizational culturehad the most significant influence on job satisfaction. Also sub-factors of organizational culture and management styles of administrators that influenced teachers'job satisfaction ratings included collegiality, supervisory support, physical settings, reward systemsand task-centered management styles.

  • This research proposed leader's supervisory behavior as antecedent variables of salesperson's job satisfaction which had been not tested at Brown and Peterson's (1993) empirical study and used organization citizenship as consequences of job satisfaction which was widely tested at the organization related literatures. According to research outcomes, leader behavior influence job satisfaction and organizational citizenship was turned out. to be outcome of salesperson's job satisfaction. But, on the contrary to our expectation, organizational citizenship has nothing to do with salesperson's intention to stay organization. Thus, it could be said that salesperson's intention to stay and organizational citizenship were mutually exclusive outcomes variables of job satisfaction and there is no causal relationship between these two constructs. Also, as it was to be in Brown and Peterson's (1993) empirical study, it was confirmed that leader's supervisory behavior influences commitment and citizenship behavior indirectly through salesperson's job satisfaction. We proposed that sales managers concern about salesperson's job satisfaction and commitment to prevent salespersons from turnover. Especially, commitment to organization is turned out to be very important factor in salesperson management in considering that it influences salesperson's intention to stay and accommodates salesperson's prosocial behavior.

Factors Affecting Social Support, Emotional Exhaustion and Job Stress on Job Satisfaction and Intention to Leave of Male Nurses (남자 간호사의 사회적지지, 정서적 소진 및 직무스트레스가 직무만족과 이직의도에 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the relationship between social support, emotional exhaustion and job stress job satisfaction and intention to leave of male nurses. Methods: The subjects of this study were 90 male nurses working in hospitals, and data analysis was performed multiple regression analysis to examine factors affecting job satisfaction and intention to leave. Results: The current job satisfaction rate of male nurses was 52.8%, and the rate of intention to leave within one year was 38.2%. Job satisfaction was lower for male nurses as job stress was higher(${\beta}=-.44$), p<.001), and the higher the supervisory support in social support, the higher the job satisfaction(${\beta}=.23$), p=.011). The higher the emotional exhaustion, the higher the intention to leave(${\beta}=.35$, p<.001). Conclusion: In order to maintain male nurses as important nursing staff in hospitals, various policy are needed to reduce the job stress of male nurses and to increase job satisfaction by lowering job stress and to reduce the intention to leave by reducing emotional exhaustion.
