The inlet boundary condition of computations about the supersonic turbine flow is commonly applied as far-field inlet boundary condition with specified velocity. However, the inflow condition of supersonic turbine is sometimes affected by the shocks or expansion waves propagated from leading edges of blade. These shocks and expansion waves alter the inlet boundary condition. In this case, the inlet boundary condition can not be specified Therefore, in this paper, numerical analyses for three different inlet conditions - fa-field inlet boundary condition, inlet boundary condition with a linear nozzle and inlet boundary condition with a converging-diverging nozzle - have been performed and compared with experimental results to solve the problem. It is found that the inlet condition with a linear nozzle or a converging-diverging nozzle can prevent changing of inlet boundary condition, and thus predict more accurately the supersonic flow within turbine cascade than a far-field inlet boundary condition does.

The present paper deals with concept design of supersonic inlet based on compressible flow theory and flow control of bleeding in order to guarantee stability of supersonic inlet of ramjet engine in broad range of operating conditions. Shock instability, shock wave-boundary layer interaction and flow separation should be properly controlled to improve performance of the supersonic inlet. Considering shock strength, boundary layer and flow separation, the supersonic inlet is modified from the basic model which is designed under inviscid theory. Consequently, shock is stabilized, and required mass flow rate is obtained. Furthermore, bleeding is applied to the supersonic inlet to maintain performance in off-design conditions. Mass flow condition is adopted for modeling of bleeding effect, and performance of the supersonic inlet is evaluated by changing bleeding locations and numbers.
The purpose of this paper is the study on the characteristics of an inlet system with shock/boundary layer interactions by using various types of bumps which are substituted for the conventional bleeding system in supersonic inlet. in this study a comprehensive numerical analysis has been performed to understand the three-dimensional flow field including shock/boundary layer interaction and growth of turbulent boundary layer that might occur around a three-dimensional bump in a supersonic inlet. The characteristics of boundary layer seen in the current numerical simulations indicate the potential capability of a three-dimensional bump to control shock/boundary layer interaction in supersonic inlets.

In this study, the flow characteristics within supersonic cascades are numerically investigated by using Fine Turbo, a commercial CFD code. Cascade flows are computed for three different inlet conditions. : a uniform supersonic inlet condition, a linear nozzle and a converging-diverging nozzle located in front of cascades. The effect of inlet conditions is compared and flow characteristics including shock patterns and shock-boundary layer interaction are analyzed. Also the effect of design parameters such as pitch-chord ratio, blade angle and blade surface curvature on the flow within supersonic cascades are studied.

Theoretically, stable operations of an inlet are achieved at the design condition. However, at off-design conditions supersonic inlets often encounter the problem of aerodynamic instability, called inlet buzz. During inlet buzz, supersonic inlets exhibit considerable oscillation of the shock system in front of the inlet and corresponding large pressure fluctuations downstream. This phenomenon results in decrease of engine performance. An experimental and numerical study was conducted to investigate the phenomenon of supersonic inlet buzz on a generic, axisymmetric, external-compression inlet with a single-surface center-body. This study suggest that intermittent buzz exist and the frequency become to be large as increasing the back pressure.

Optimum shape of Double-cone supersonic inlet is studied by using numerical methods. Double-cone intake shape is used for the design optimization study. And the total pressure recovery at the exit is used to assess the aerodynamic performance of the inlet.
The purpose of this study is the characteristics of an innovative inlet system with shock/boundary layer interactions by using various types of bumps which are substituted for the conventional bleeding system in supersonic inlet. This study performs a comprehensive numerical effort that be directed at better understanding the three-dimensional flowfield includes shock/boundary layer interaction and growth of turbulent boundary layer that occur around a three-dimensional bump in a supersonic inlet. The characteristics of boundary layer seen in the current numerical simulations indicates the potential capability of the three-dimensional bump to control shock/boundary layer interaction in supersonic inlets.

The design process of blended inlet body (BIB) for the preliminary design of a near-space high supersonic unmanned aerial vehicle (HSUAV) is presented. The mass flow rate and cowl area of inlet at a design point are obtained according to the cruise condition of the HSUAV. A mixed-compression axisymmetric supersonic inlet section with a fixed geometry reasonably matching the high supersonic cruise state is created by using the inviscid theory of aerodynamics. The inlet section is optimized and used as a baseline section for the BIB design. Three BIB concepts for the HSUAV are proposed, and their internal aerodynamic characteristics of inlet are evaluated using Euler computational fluid dynamics (Euler CFD) solver. The preferred concept is identified, in which the straight leading edge of the baseline HSUAV configuration is modified into the convex leading edge to accommodate the inlet and meet the requirements of the cowl area to capture the sufficient air flow. The total recovery of inlet for the preferred BIB concept and the aerodynamic characteristics of the modified HSUAV configuration are verified using Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics (NS CFD) solver. The validation indicates that the preferred BIB concept can meet both the requirements of the inlet and aerodynamic performance of the HSUAV.
The flow characteristics on a supersonic inlet with bleeding system by changing angles of attack and channel length conditions are studied by computational 3D turbulent flow analysis. A compressible upwind flux difference splitting Navier-Stokes method with $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model is used to analysis the inlet flowfield. More non-uniform flowfields are shown at the AIP when angle of attack becomes bigger and bigger. These non-uniform flowfield works the performance aggravating factors of the supersonic engine. Non-uniform flowfield by changing channel length at the various angle of attack are investigated.
A supersonic inlet at angle of attack has anti-symmetric pressure distribution, and it can make flow instability and structural problem. In this study, numerical analysis of three-dimensional inviscid flow was conducted under various throttle ratio and angle of attack conditions. Throttle ratio was defined as the ratio of the exit area to the smallest cross section area at inlet, and the ratio is controlled from 0 to 2.42. At various angle of attack, the characteristics of steady and unsteady flow around supersonic inlet is observed under different throttling ratios. From these results, pressure recovery curves and pressure history curves were plotted by post processing. Using pressure history data, FFT analysis is also carried out. Through these processes, it shows the tendency of pressure distribution anti-symmetricity and changing dominant frequency as increasing angle of attack.
