This study was performed to evaluate the antiobesity effect of supercritical fluid extracts (SFC) and marc methanol extracts (SFM) from Cinnamomum verum in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. In inducing the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in the presence of an adipogenic cocktail, iso-butylmethylanthine (IBMX), dexamathasone, and insulin, treatment with fraction residue SFC and SFM. SFC significantly reduced the mRNA expression of the transcription factor peroxisome proliferator-activate-dreceptor-${\gamma}$ ($PPAR{\gamma}$), the sterol regulatory-element-binding protein-1c (SREBP1c), and the CCAAT enhancer-binding-protein ${\alpha}$ ($C/EBP{\alpha}$) in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, SFC markedly down-regulated acyl-CoA synthetase-1 (ASC1), fatty acid synthesis (FAS), fatty acid transport-1 (FATP1), fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4), and perilipin. These findings suggest that SFC may be a potential therapeutic adjunct for obesity by targeting the differentiation of preadipocytes, as well as their functions.
In order to develop a new separation technology, supercritical fluid extraction process was used to produce high purity pigments and fatty acids from seaweed (Undaria pinnatifida). Supercritical carbon dioxide was used as a solvent and ethanol as an entrainer. The sample was treated by a frozen drier and experiments were conducted with a semi-batch flow system at various operating conditions (pressure range, $10.3\~17.2$ MPa; temperature range, $30\~45^{\circ}C$: particle size, $500\~1,000{\mu}m$ extraction time, 60 min). Characteristics of the recovered pigment (chlorophyll a) and fatty acids were determined by UV-spectrophotometry and gas chromatography, respectively. The highest extraction efficiency for fatty acids and pigments was achieved at 12.4 MPa, $35^{\circ}C$, $500{\mu}m$of seaweed size.
A numerical study of high pressure and temperature droplet vaporization and combustion is conducted by formulating one dimensional evaporation model and single-step chemical reaction in the mixture of hydrocarbon fuel and air. The ambient pressure ranged from atmospheric conditions to the supercritical conditions. In order to account for the real gas effect on fluid p-v-T properties in high pressure conditions, the modified Soave-Redlich-Kwong state equation is used in the evaluation of thermophysical properties. Some computational results are compared with Sato's experimental data for the validation of calculations in case of vaporization. The comparison between predictions and experiments showed quite a good agreement. Droplet surface temperature increased with increasing pressure. Ignition time increased with increasing initial droplet diameter. Temporal or spatial distribution of mass fraction, mass diffusivity, Lewis number, thermal conductivity, and specific heat were presented.
Recent advances in recombinant DNA technology have resulted in development of many new protein drugs. Due to the unique properties of protein druges, they have to be delivered by parenteral injection Although delivery of protein drugs by other routes, such as pulmonary and nasal routes, has shown some promises, to date most protein drugs are administered by par-enteral routs. For long-term delivery of protein drugs by parenteral administration, they have been formulated into biodegradable microspheres. A number of microencapsulation methods have been developed, and the currently used microencapsulation methods are reviewed here, The microen-capsulation methods have been divided based on the method used. They are: solvent evapora-tion/extraction; phase separation (coacervation);spray drying; ionotropic gelation/polyelectrolyte complexation; interfacial polyumerization and supercritical fluid precipitation. Each method is de-scribed fro its applications, advantages, and limitations.
A fuzzy control scheme has been proposed for a supercritical extraction process which has attracted much attention recently as a new separation technology. Based on the manual operation experience, three control pairs between manipulated and output variables are selected first and then seven membership functions are defined for control error and time rate of the error, respectively for each control pair, resulting in forty nine Fuzzy control rules. In addition to these, the membership functions are defined in two steps (coarse and fine) to enhance control performance. Fuzzy inference is performed using MAX-MTN composition rule and defuzzified control output is calculated based on center of gravity method. The prosed Fuzzy control scheme has been assessed through numerical simulation. As a result, the proposed scheme shows good control performance comparable with that by INA(inverse nyquist array) which usually requires complicated design procedure.

Micro and nanoparticles of Finasteride were prepared by gas-antisolvent method. The influence of process parameters such as pressure (100, 130 and 160 bar), temperature (308, 318 and 328 K) and solute concentrations (10, 25 and 40 mg/ml) on mean particle size was studied by Box-Behnken design. As ANOVA results indicated, the highest influence in production of smaller particles was attributed to the pressure. Optimum condition leading to the smallest particle size was as follows: initial solute concentration, 10 mg/ml; temperature, 308 K and pressure, 160 bar. The particles were evaluated with FTIR, SEM, DLS, XRD as well as DSC. The analyses revealed a size decrease in the precipitated Finasteride particles (232.4 nm, on mean) via gas-antisolvent method, as compared to the original particles (55.6 ㎛).

In the first part of the paper, Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis of the combusting flow within a high-swirl lean premixed gas turbine combustor and over the $1^{st}$ row nozzle guide vanes is presented. In this analysis, the focus of the investigation is the fluid dynamics at the combustor/turbine interface and its impact on the turbine. The predictions show the existence of a highly-rotating vortex core in the combustor, which is in strong interaction with the turbine nozzle guide vanes. This has been observed to be in agreement with the temperature indicated by thermal paint observations. The results suggest that swirling flow vortex core transition phenomena play a very important role in gas turbine combustors with modern lean-premixed dry low emissions technology. As the predictability of vortex core transition phenomena has not yet been investigated sufficiently, a fundamental validation study has been initiated, with the aim of validating the predictive capability of currently-available modelling procedures for turbulent swirling flows near the sub/supercritical vortex core transition. In the second part of the paper, results are presented which analyse such transitional turbulent swirling flows in two different laboratory water test rigs. It has been observed that turbulent swirling flows of interest are dominated by low-frequency transient motion of coherent structures, which cannot be adequately simulated within the framework of steady-state RANS turbulence modelling approaches. It has been found that useful results can be obtained only by modelling strategies which resolve the three-dimensional, transient motion of coherent structures, and do not assume a scalar turbulent viscosity at all scales. These models include RSM based URANS procedures as well as LES and DES approaches.
With fast advancement of fine machineries and semiconductor industries in recent decades, the ultra-cleaning of organic chemicals, submicron particles from contaminated unit equipments and products such as silicon wafers becomes one of the most important steps for further advancement of such industries. To date, two kinds of ultra cleaning techniques are used; one is the wet-cleaning and the other is the dry cleaning. In case of wet cleaning, removal of organic contaminants and submicron particles is made by DIW with additives such as $H_2O_2$, $H_2SO_4$, HCl, $NH_4OH$ and HF, etc. While the wet cleaning method is most widely adopted for various occasions, it is inevitable to discharge significant amount of toxic waste waters in environment. Dry cleaning is an alternative method to mitigate environmental pollution of the wet cleaning with maintaining comparable degree of cleaning to the wet cleaning. Although there are various concept of dry cleaning have been devised, the dry cleaning with environmentally-benign solvent such as carbon dioxide proven to show high degree of cleaning from the contaminated porous surface as well as from the bare surface. Thus, special global attention has been placing on this technique since it has important advantages of simple process schemes and no environmentally concern, etc. Thus, this article critically reviews the state-of-the-art of the supercritical fluid drying with emphasis on the thermo-physical characteristics of the supercritical solvent, environmental gains compared to other dry cleaning methods, and the generic aspects of the basic design and processing engineering.
By using supercritical carbon dioxide fluid, an attempt was made to extract surface-active substances from defatted rice bran. Extraction was carried out according to D-optimal design and results were analyzed by response surface methodology to establish optimum condition. It was found that pressure, temperature and co-solvent (ethanol) influenced in a different extent on the extraction efficiency (i.e., yield and interfacial tension) of surface-active substances. Among them, co-solvent was found to be a major influencing factor, where maximum yield (2.62%) was observed at the highest content (250 g). In addition, it also affected most on the interfacial tension at the oil-water interface but in this case the lowest interfacial tension value (9.51 mN/m) was found when added lowest (50 g). In conclusion, it was estimated that the optimum extraction condition was to be pressure 350bar, temperature $62^{\circ}C$ and co-solvent content 50 g in this study, where extraction yield was 0.69% and interfacial tension to be 10.1 mN/m.
Overall experiments were planned by central composite design, and results were analyzed by response surface methodology (RSM) to determine effects of three independent variables, temperature ($X_{1}$), extraction time ($X_{3}$), and pressure ($X_{3}$), on yield of sesame oil extract (Y). Regression equation model optimized by response surface analysis was: Y (sesame oil) = $-3.89+0.07X_{1}+0.03X_{2}+0.0006X_{3}-0.0007X_{1}^{2}-0.0002X_{2}X_{1}-0.00008X_{2}^{2}+0.000004X_{3}X_{1}+0.0000009X_{3}X_{2}-0.00000009X_{3}^{2}$. According to RSM analysis, optimum extracting conditions of temperature, time, and pressure were $45.89^{\circ}C$, 131.89 min, and 34228.41 kPa, respectively, and statistical maximum yield of sesame oil was 96.27%. Fatty acid composition of sesame oil showed sesame oil extracted by Supereritical Fluid $CO_{2}$ contained lower levels of palmitic, stcaric, and oleic acids and higher levels or palmitoleic and linoleic acids than commercial sesame oil. Commercial and extracted sesame oils were analyzed by electronic nose composed of 12 different metal oxide sensors. Obtained data were interpreted by statistical method of MANOVA. Sensitivities of sensors from electronic nose were analysed by principal component analysis. Proportion of first principal component was 99.92%. All sesame oils showed different odors (p < 0.05).
