Superconducting Film Fabrication using Field Assisted Electrophoresis (보조전계를 이용한 전기영동 초전도 막의 제작)

  • For fabricating high T$\sub$c/ superconducting deposited film, novel electrophoretic deposition technique applied to deposit surface charged Particles on metal substrate with oxy d.c field has been studied. The electric properties of superconducting film don't improve easily because the particles of deposition film are deposited randomly on substrate and don't make orientation affected to its critical current density. In this paper, we studied conventional electrophoresis in addition to a.c field assisted for the improvement of BSCCO superconducting film with high orientation of deposition particles.

  • For fabricating high T$\sub$c/ superconducting deposition film, novel electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technique applied to deposit surface charged particles on metal substrate with only d.c field has been studied. However, the electric properties of superconducting film could not be improved easily by this way, because the particles of EPD film were usually deposited randomly on metal substrate without any directional orientation affected to its critical current density. For the purpose of obtaining partcle orientation on the EPD films, the new method modified by a.c. assisted field to the conventional electrophoresis system was investigated to improve the particle deposition density and to increase the contacting area among the particles with highly oriented particle deposition of BSCCO superconducting film.

  • Squeeze film dampers(SFDs) are designed and analyzed for radial superconducting bearings. The designed SFDs are mounted on the superconductors submerged in liquid nitrogen such that the dampers should supply additional damping to the relatively underdamped superconducting bearing support. Basic theory of SFD with superconducting bearing are introduced. Rotordynamic simulations are provided to support the feasibility of the superconducting magnetic bearings mounted on SFDs for a horizontal flywheel energy storage system.

  • In the electrophoresis for fabrication of a superconducting wire and film, the enough deposition and formal sustain of a film condition affect to superconducting state of samples. In this paper, a superconducting film was fabricated with various suspension solution such as acetone, buthanol, and ethanol. As a results, the best deposition condition with d.c 250 V and a.c 25 V of applied voltage, and 90 sec of applied time for BSCCO superconducting film by electrophoresis was investigated.

  • For the research of the effects on suspension solution with YBCO and BSCCO for elcectrophoretic deposition to prepare superconducting thick-film wire, it was investigated that the preheating technique for the superconducting powders in vacuum system was used with various solvent solutions of acetone, ethanol, toluene and buthanol for electrophoresis. As a result it was useful to remove the influence of remaining and adsorbed solvent solution which was existed between and on the particle surfaces when the specimens of superconducting wire by electrophoresis were treated in vacuum of 10$\^$-3/ Torr and temperature around 200$^{\circ}C$ in bell-jar system. From the prepared superconducting wire samples, the critical current density, Jc was measured by 4-point prove method in liquid N$_2$ at the value of 10$\^$3/ to 10$\^$4/ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively, for the YBCO and BSCCO superconducting wires.

  • Laser ablation was used to fabricate superconducting $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) thin films on metallic substrates with an YSZ buffer layer. An ArF excimer laser with an wavelength of 193 nm was used to deposit both YSZ buffer layer and superconducting thin film. The characterizations of thin films were performed and compared. With a 200 nm YSZ buffer layer, c-axis orientation and $T_c$=85 K were obtained for a 200 nm-thick YBCO film.

  • Transport and tunneling measurements of nanostructured superconducting thin films are presented. To understand the effects of film morphology on their superconducting properties, thermal annealing experiments have been performed. The transition temperature increases with thermal annealing temperature towards the bulk value. Also, thermal annealing results in a shift of transverse phonon mode. These can be understood with changes in film morphology and suggest its importance on the superconducting state properties.

  • The effect of the superconducting film thickness on the substrate temperature has been investigated. Superconducting YBCO thin films have been grown on MgO substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The dependence of the orientation of YBCO film on thickness has been investigated by X-ray diffraction technique. X-ray diffraction indicated that the film orientation was changed by increasing the film thickness and by changing the substrate temperature.

  • We fabricated a resistive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) of meander type based on a YBCO film. In order to disperse the heat generated at hot spots in the YBCO film the film was coated with a gold shunt layer. When diodes were inserted in the parallel circuit to restrict the temperature increase in the SFCL element by reducing power supply cycles, the voltage could be increased to $\sqrt{2}$ times with the same quench resistance at a half and full cycles.
