This study is about technical analysis in launching SLBM of North Korea. We expect that North Korea develop ICBM and SLBM by improving the technique called R-27. Also it is expected that they attempt to achievement in covertness and ambush by completing technique of cold launching. Recently, SLBM of North Korea rised 40 ~ 50 m on surface after launching in an underwater when they showed the scene of firing SLBM. We expect that they actively use not general technique but super cavitation technique. Also, they might improve the launching technique by doing SLBM launching test. This type is about that whole rocket is separated two parts and ignited with high velocity and we might think that 1st rocket is used in solid propellant to maneuver in high velocity in an underwater. After then, they might use liquid propellant for the long-range ballistic missile.
A wet type scrubber for merchant vessel uses super austenitic stainless steels with pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) of 40 or higher for operation in a harsh corrosive environment. However, it is expensive due to a high nickel content. Thus, electrochemical behavior and cavitation erosion characteristics of UNS S32750 as an alternative material were investigated. Microstructure analysis revealed fractions of ferritic and austenitic phases of 48% and 52%, respectively, confirming the existence of ferritic matrix and austenitic island. Potentiodynamic polarization test revealed damage at the interface of the two phases because of galvanic corrosion due to different chemical compositions of ferritic and austenitic phases. After a cavitation test, a compressive residual stress was formed on the material surface due to impact pressure of cavity. Surface hardness was improved by water cavitation peening effect. Hardness value was the highest at 30 ㎛ amplitude. Scanning electron microscopy revealed wave patterns due to plastic deformation caused by impact pressure of the cavity. The depth of surface damage increased with amplitude. Cavitation test revealed larger damage caused by erosion in the ferritic phase due to brittle fracture derived from different strain rate sensitivity index of FCC and BCC structures.

In order to develop the driving pump for High-speed Cavitation Tunnel(HCT) which can experiment the super-cavitating submerged body, KRISO decided on the pump specification, designed the mixed-flow pump on the basis of the existing pump data and predicted the performance of the design pump using commercial CFD code (CFX-10). After the manufacture and installation of the driving pump, KRISO conducted the trial-test for HCT, analyzed the pump performance and compared trial-test results to those of design stage. The trial-test items for the HCT driving pump are measurements of output current/voltage at the inverter of the driving pump and the flow velocity in the HCT test section. The trial-test results showed the decrease in the flow rate of about 4.6% and the increase in pump head of about 8%, compared with those of the pump prediction. After the trial-test, the performance of the driving pump is predicted using CFX-10 with measured flowrates and pump rotational velocities. Though there is some difference between trial-test and prediction results due to inadequate motor data, it is thought that the tendency is reasonable. It is found that CFX-10 is useful to predict a mixed-flow pump.
The design method for trans-cavitating propellers is considered as the combination of super-and sub-cavitating propellers. Especially the design method of the super-cavitating region of the propeller blade is elaborated. A design example is shown. Encouraging test results obtained in the Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean (KRISO) cavitation tunnel of a model designed by the present method are discussed.

A feasibility study is performed for practical application of a Ventilating Water-Jet(VWJ) propulsor which attracts new attention as a candidate propulsor for super-high speed vessels. Super-cavitating foil sections are adopted for the rotor blades since the rotor is operating at ventilating condition. Wedge type and cavitator type foil sections are used for the design of rotor blades. Other geometric characteristics of rotors are selected from the Kaplan type ducted propeller rotors. The test section of KRISO cavitation tunnel is modified to perform open-water tests of the VWJ propulsors. The tests are performed both at fully-submerged and free-jet conditions. Ventilation occurred at the free-jet condition by sucking the air in the downstream side of the rotor, which easily develops as super-cavitation when the rotor operates at lower advance coefficients. Spoilers are attached at the trailing end of the pressure side of the blade section, in order to increase the lift force.

High speed under water vehicle by using solid rocket motor, which is a natural cavitation type, was tested. The vehicle's speed and running distance was measured, and pressure sensors installed on the surface of the vehicle show pressure-time history of pressures according to the development of the supercavitation. Underwater cameras installed on the wall of the test pool recorded whole processes from the onset of the supercavitation to fully developed one. CNU-SuperCT based on 2-dimensional inviscid theoretical analysis was used to simulate the test result. In consideration of CNU-SuperCT does not include the control fins of the vehicle, simulation results agree with test results very well. Also, pictures from underwater cameras support the test results.

A natural cavitation-type high-speed underwater vehicle with solid rocket motor is tested, and its speed and running distance are measured. The outputs from pressure sensors on the surface of the vehicle reveal a pressure-time history reflecting the development of supercavitation. Underwater cameras installed on the wall of the test pool record the entire process from the onset of supercavitation to its full development. CNU-SuperCT, based on two-dimensional inviscid theoretical analysis, is used to simulate test results. Considering CNU-SuperCT does not include the control fins of the vehicle, simulation results agree with test results very well. Additionally, pictures from underwater cameras support the test results.

Heavy diesel vehicles are one of major sources of urban fine dust in Korea and other developing countries. In this study, an auxiliary device assisting fuel atomization, which is called FAD (Fuel Activation Device), was closely reviewed through numerical simulation. As calculated, the diesel flow velocity passing across FAD increased up to 1.68 times, and it enhanced the cavitation effect which could improve the injected fuel atomization. Super cavitation phenomenon, which is the most important effect on nozzle injection, has occurred until the cavitation number (${\sigma}$) decreased from 1.15 to 1.09, and atomized droplets via a nozzle of which opening was $500{\mu}m$ distributed less than $200{\mu}m$ in sauter mean diameter (SMD).

When the object is traveling in the water at tremendously high speeds, the cavity forms and grows up at a fore part of the object called cavitator, and the object is eventually enveloped by vaporized water, supercavitation. As a result, the only part of the object in direct contact with the water is the cavitator, so skin-friction drag is significantly reduced. This is why recently supercavitating objects have been interested in many applicable fields. In this study we are focused out attention on supercavitating flows around various shapes of two and three dimensional cavitators. First, general features of supercavitation are examined by analyzing results obtained by the previously developed numerical method. Second, experimental observations are carried out at a cavitation tunnel at the Chungnam National University (CNU CT), and supercavity dimensions are scrutinized.

This paper describes a potential-based panel method formulated for the analysis of a super-cavitating two-dimensional hydrofoil. The method employs normal dipoles and sources distributed on the foil and cavity surfaces to represent the potential flow around the cavitating hydrofoil. The kinematic boundary condition on the wetted portion of the foil surface is satisfied by requiring that the total potential vanish in the fictitious inner flow region of the foil, and the dynamic boundary condition on the cavity surface is satisfied by requiring thats the potential vary linearly, i.e., the tangential velocity be constant. Green's theorem then results in a potential-based integral equation rather than the usual velocity-based formulation of Hess & Smith type. With the singularities distributed on the exact hydrofoil surface, the pressure distributions are predicted with improved accuracy compared to those of the linearized lilting surface theory, especially near the leading edge. The theory then predicts the cavity shape and cavitation number for an assumed cavity length. To improve the accuracy, the sources and dipoles on the cavity surface are moved to the newly computed cavity surface, where the boundary conditions are satisfied again. This iteration process is repeated until the results are converged. Characteristics of iteration and discretization of the present numerical method are much faster and more stable than the existing nonlinear theories. The theory shows good correlations with the existing theories and experimental results for the super-cavitating flow. In the region of small angles of attack, the present prediction shows and excellent comparison with the Geurst's linear theory. For the long cavity, the method recovers the trends of the Wu's nonlinear theory. In the intermediate regions of the short super-cavitation, the method compares very well with the experimental results of Parkin and also those of Silberman.
