Carbon Doping of TiO2 for Visible Light Photo Catalysis - A review

  • The field of photocatalysis is one of the fastest growing areas both in research and commercial fields. Titanium dioxide is the most investigated semi-conductor material for the photocatalysis applications. Research to achieve $TiO_2$ visible light activation has drawn enormous attentions because of its potential to use solar light. This paper reviews the attempts made to extend its visible photocatalytic activity by carbon doping. Various approaches adopted to incorporate carbon to $TiO_2$ are summarized highlighting the major developments in this active research field. Theoretical features on carbon doping are also presented. Future scenario in the rapidly developing and exciting area is outlined for practical applications with solar light.

LED IT 기반의 간편한 비캐리어 가시광 통신 시스템 구현 (Realization of Non-carrier Visible Light Communication System based upon LED IT)

  • 이 논문에서는 LED(Light Emitting Diode) 조명을 이용한 간편한 가시광 통신 시스템을 구현하기 위해, 비 캐리어 NRZ-OOK(non-return to zero on off keying) 변조 방식을 사용하고, 가시광 송신을 위한 발광소자인 $3{\times}3$ 백색 LED 배열과 가시광 수신을 위한 여러 가지 포토다이오드를 사용하여 송수신 소자사이의 거리가 약 2.5m이고, 전체 시스템 속도가 115.2kbps의 전송속도를 가지는 가시광 시스템을 설계하여 구현 한다. 구현된 시스템의 성능분석을 위해 LED 와 포토다이오드 종류, LED 배열 수, 전송속도 따른 최대 송수신 거리를 구하고 여러 가지 구현시스템의 성능을 실험을 통해 분석한다.

A Study of the Optical Properties of Cosmetics Measured by Polarized Light Goniophotometry

  • Polymethylmethacrylate powders are commonly used to improve the spreadability and blurring effects of powder foundation cosmetics. In this study, the opacity and haze effect of four types of polymethylmethacrylate powders and their 10wt% powder foundation formulation was evaluated. The distorted random hemispherical particulates with both concave and convex portions showed the highest haze and opacity value as a single powder substance. And as a formulated phase, the powder foundation formulation containing particulates with fine pores provided the highest haze and opacity value. We also examined the quantity of reflected light over the angular range $20-75^{\circ}$ by polarized light goniophotometry. The total reflected light intensity, surface-reflected light, and internally reflected light were characterized. These studies demonstrated that hemispherical PMMA powders produce natural brilliance by creating high internally reflected light which is similar to the total reflection profile of artificial skin.

이중 블라인드 광파이프 주광 조명시스템 효율 및 조명에너지 절감량 평가 연구 (Evaluation Study of a Double Blind Light Pipe Daylighting System Efficiency and an Illumination Energy Reduction)

  • A DBLP(Double blind light pipe) daylight system can be installed at a building exterior wall or roof to replace artificial light during the day time. This system was consisted of a double blind light collector, a mirror duct type light transformer and a prism light pipe distributor. The double blinds were used to track the sun's altitude and azimuth movements to collect the sunlight throughout the day. The sunlight collected by the light collector was reflected on the first mirror and the second mirror and sent to the light pipe through the light transformer. The transformer was designed to deliver the sunlight into the light pipe efficiently. The light distributor plays a role in diffusing the sunlight coming in through the light collector to be used for indoor lighting. In this paper, a DBLP system has been designed, installed and tested at a KIER daylighting twin test cell. The DBLP daylighting system was applied to the experimental test cell which has an indoor area of 2.0 m wide ${\times}$ 2.4 m height ${\times}$ 3.8 m length. The experiment was conducted from January 30 to February 27, 2012, under clear skies and partially cloudy skies. Data was collected from 10:00 am to 16:00 pm every 2 minute and the average was calculated for every 30 minute of the data collection to obtain the system efficiency. The results indicated that the DBLP system efficiency was evaluated as 11.67%. The DBLP system indoor illumination energy reduction was predicted as 0.822 kWh/day. This could replace 4 sets of a 32W fluorescent lamp operating 6.4 hours per a day.

  • Shenzhen Innovation Light source Facility (SILF) is a 3.0 GeV fourth generation diffraction limited synchrotron light source currently under construction in Shenzhen. The SILF storage ring is proposed to use two 500 MHz single cell superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities to provide 2.4 MV RF voltage. In this study, we examined the geometric structure of mature CESR superconducting cavities and adopted a beam-pipe-type extraction scheme for high-order modes (HOM). One of the objectives of SRF cavity design and optimization in this study is to reduce Ep/Eacc and Bp/Eacc as much as possible to reduce power loss and ensure stable operation of the cavity. To reduce the risk of beam instability and thermal breakdown, the HOM and Multipacting (MP) are simulated. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the cavity are analyzed, including frequency sensitivity from pressure of liquid helium (LHe), stress, tuning, Lorentz force detuning (LFD), the microphone effect, and buckling. By comprehensive design and optimization of 500 MHz single-cell SRF cavities, a superconducting cavity for SILF storage ring was developed. This paper will detailed present the design and simulation.

연잎 추출물을 함유한 화장품의 안정성 평가 (Stability Evaluation of the Cosmetics Containing Lotus Leaf Extract)

  • The stability of cream containing lotus leaf extract (LLE) was evaluated. Stability pH and viscosity were measured at 3 different temperatures ($25^{\circ}C$, $45^{\circ}C$ and $65^{\circ}C$), and at room temperature under the sun light at 2 day intervals during 12 days. The cleansing cream and foam cleansing containing the extract did not show a significant pH change at the different temperatures. However, the pH of the cleansing cream and foam cleansing containing LLE slightly decreased at $25^{\circ}C$. They showed a high stability at temperature conditions ($45^{\circ}C$ and $65^{\circ}C$) and under the sun light condition. The cleansing cream and foam cleansing containing LLE did not show a significant viscosity change at $25^{\circ}C$, but had a tendency of decrease at $45^{\circ}C$ and $65^{\circ}C$. There was no significant offflavor and discoloration as well as physical changes such as creaming and cohesion at $25-65^{\circ}C$ and under the sun light condition. And this LLE could be used as a stable functional cosmetic material.

  • Purpose of this research is estimating polymerization depth of different source of light. XL 3000 for halo-gen light, Apollo 95E for plasma arc light and Easy cure for LED light source were used in this study. Different shade (B1 & A3) resin composites (Esthet-X, Dentsply, U.S.A.) were used to measure depth of cure. 1, 2, and 3 mm thick samples were light cured for three seconds, six seconds or 10 seconds with Apollo 95E and they were light cured with XL-3000 and Easy cure for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, or 40 seconds. Vicker's hardness test carried out after store samples for 24 hours in distilled water. Results were as following. 1. Curing time increases from al1 source of lights, oui$.$ing depth increased(p<0.05). 2. Depth (that except 1mm group and 2mm group which lighten to halogen source of light) deepens in all groups, Vickers hardness decreased(p<0.05). 3. Vicker's hardness of A3 shade composite was lower in all depths more than B1 shade composites in group that do polymerization for 10 seconds and 20 seconds using halogen source of light(p<0.05), but group that do polymerization lot 40 seconds did not show difference(p>0.05). 4. Groups that do polymerization using Plasma arc and LED source of light did not show Vicker's hardness difference according to color at surface and 1mm depth(p>0.05), but showed difference according to color at 2mm and 3mm depth(p<0.05). The results showed that Apollo 95E need more polymerization times than manufacturer's recommendation (3 seconds), and Easy cure need polymerization time of XL-3000 at least.

광원의 종류, 주기와 세기의 변화에 따른 '신홍쌈' 배추 내 글루코시놀레이트 함량 (Variation of glucosinolate contents of 'Sinhongssam' grown under various light sources, periods, and light intensities)

  • The variation of glucosinolates (GSLs) in Chinese cabbage ('Sinhongssam') (Brassica rapa L. spp. pekinensis) cultivated under lights to control plant growth conditions was evaluated at different development stages. Under experimental conditions in plant factory system, plant growth conditions including light, temperature, and nutrients were designed to enhance GSLs. The variation of glucosinolates (GSLs) in Chinese cabbage ('Sinhongssam') (Brassica rapa L. spp. pekinensis) cultivated under lights to control plant growth conditions was evaluated at different development stages. Under experimental conditions in plant factory system, plant growth conditions including light, temperature, and nutrients were designed to enhance GSLs. The contents of GSLs were quantified in Chinese cabbage according to different light sources (Red+White, RW; Red+Blue+White, RBW, Fluorescence lamp, FL) at development stages (28, 42, and 56 days after sowing, DAS) using HPLC. Nine GSLs including five aliphatic (progoitrin, sinigrin, glucoalyssin, gluconapin, and glucobrassicanapin) three indolyl (glucobrassicin, 4-methoxyglucobrassicin, and neoglucobrassicin), and one aromatic (gluconasturtiin) GSLs were identified based on peak retention time in previous results of our laboratory. GSL contents were higher in RBW (36.55) and lower in FL ($15.24{\mu}mol/g/\;DW$). Results revealed that GSL contents were higher under controlled photoperiods (20/4 h) ($58.35{\mu}mol/g\;DW$) and controlled light intensity ($160{\mu}mol/m^2/s$) ($34.02{\mu}mol/g\;DW$), respectively. Lower amount of progoitrin and comparatively higher amount of glucobrassicin and gluconasturtiin was noted in Chinese cabbage cultivated under FL light (2.38, 9.82, and 2.10) at 42 DAS, photoperiod 20/4 h (3.16, 2.52, and 1.30) at 28 DAS, and light intensity at $130{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ (2.28, 2.24, and $1.51{\mu}mol/g\;DW$) at 42 DAS. Therefore FL light, photoperiod (20/4 h), and light intensity ($130{\mu}mol/m^2/s$) were considered as most suitable for the enhancement of GSLs in Chinese cabbage.
