Corrosion of steel reinforcing in concrete deteriorated by freezing/thawing and carbonation was characterized. Concrete specimens were prepared using various kinds of cements such as ordinary portland cement (type I), low heat portland cement (type IV, belite rich cement), sulphate resistance portland cement (type V), blast furnace slag portland cement and ternary blended cement. Of various cements, type V and type IV with lower $C_3A$ content revealed better steel corrosion resistance after freezing/thawing and carbonation. $C_3A$ content in cement might affect freezing/thawing resistance in sea water.

In this paper, morter and concrete specimens made with four cements were immersed in Mgcl2, MgSO4 Solution and artifical Seawater which was corresponded with Seawater. The hydration products of immersed cement pastes were looked over by using SEM, EDS and X-ray diffraction method. The results show that the concrete made with domestic flyash cement and blast-frrnace slag cement is superior to that of ordinary portland cement in resistance to chloride and sulphate solution. Especially, it is found that the attack of Cl-ion on the concrete plays an important role of the deterioration of concrete.

This paper covers durability and field application of marine concrete which have been enhanced the resistance against deterioration in seawater. Fly ash concrete is applied to make the concrete with good durability. It is well known fly ash in concrete has a good performance preventing fro a sulphate attack and a steel corrosion. Several durability tests were performed to find characteristics of marine concrete which is proposed in this paper comparing with normal concrete. Field application was executed to compare results with laboratory test and to give a reliability to engineers. The project was supported by Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for two years.
This paper reports on the result of an experimental investigation carried out to study the compressive strength and sorptivity properties of blended cement concrete exposed to 5% and 10% MgSO4 solution using fly ash (FA) and silpozz. Usually in sulphate environment the minimum grade of concrete is M30 and the mix design is done for target mean strength of 39 MPa. Silpozz is manufactured by burning of agro-waste rice husk in designed furnace in between 600° to 700℃ which is one of the main agricultural residues obtained from the outer covering of rice grains during the milling process. There are four mix series taken with control mix. The control mix made 0% replacement of FA and silpozz with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The first mix series made 0% FA and 10-30% replacement of silpozz with OPC. The second mix series made with 10% FA and 10-40% replacement of silpozz with OPC. The third mix series made 20% FA and 10-30% replacement of silpozz with OPC and the fourth mix series made 30% FA and 10-20% silpozz replaced with OPC. The samples (cubes) are prepared and cured in normal water and 5% and 10% MgSO4 solution for 7, 28 and 90 days. The studied parameters are compressive strength and strength deterioration factor (SDF) for 7, 28 and 90 days. The water absorption and sorptivity tests have been done after 28 days of normal water and magnesium sulphate solution curing. The investigation reflects that the blended cement concrete incorporating FA and silpozz showing better resistance against MgSO4 solution when compared to normal water curing (NWC) samples.
Present research is mainly focused on, microstructural and durability analysis of Graphene Oxide (GO) in Wollastonite (WO) induced cement mortar with silica fume. The study was conducted by evaluating the mechanical properties (compressive and flexural strength), durability properties (water absorption, sorptivity and sulphate resistance) and microstructural analysis by SEM. Cement mortar mix prepared by replacing 10% ordinary portland cement with SF was considered as the control mix. Wollastonite replacement level varied from 0 to 20% by weight of cement. The optimum replacement of wollastonite was found to be 15% and this was followed by four sets of mortar specimens with varying substitution levels of cementitious material with GO at dosage rates of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3% and 0.4% by weight. The results indicated that the addition of up to 15%WO and 0.3% GO improves the hydration process and increase the compressive strength and flexural strength of the mortar due to the pore volume reduction, thereby strengthening the mortar mix. The resistance to water penetration and sulphate attack of mortar mixes were generally improved with the dosage of GO in presence of 15% Wollastonite and 10% silica fume content in the mortar mix. Furthermore, FE-SEM test results showed that the WO influences the lattice framework of the cement hydration products increasing the bonding between silica fume particles and cement. The optimum mix containing 0.3% GO with 15% WO replacement exhibited extensive C-S-H formation along with a uniform densified structure indicating that calcium meta-silicate has filled the pores.
Bradyrhizobium japonicum with different colony morphology populated in five Yeongnam soils of Korea was examined for intrinsic antibiotic resistance to eight antibiotics, serological property by immunoblot and immunodiffusion, and protein profile differentiation by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Colony morphological distribution of one hundred and twenty B. japonicum isolates was 47% for "dry". 41% for "wet", and 12% for "dry/wet" type. The total isolates showed such a strong correlation between the morphology and antibiotic resistance. Colony morphology, which though was dominantly consisted of the same type within a serogroup, wasn't absolutely linked to serological property of B. japonicum. Based on these data, colony morphology was too simple to identify variations with B. japonicum isolates : antibiotic resistance such complicated compared with serological analyses.

The degradation of the concrete due to deterioration factors, such as corrosion of steel bars, cracks and structural strength of reinforced concrete structures, is a social problem. Especially, concrete structures constructed in seawater, underground water, waste water treatment facilities and sewerage are subject to chemical attack by acid and sulphate. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare sulfated glass and fine aggregate of slag using waste glass fine powder and meta kaolin. The results showed that the slag fine aggregate showed better sulfate resistance than the river sand, and the fine powder of waste glass showed the best performance at 3 % displacement.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of resistance training intensity levels on muscle damaged index and aging-related hormones in obese middle-aged women. Thirty middle-aged women having over 30% of body fat participated in this study. The subjects were assigned into 3 groups on the basis of workout intensity, 50% intensity, 60% intensity, and 70% intensity. After performing three different types of exercise for 12 weeks, the levels of creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), melatonin, dehydroepiandrosterone-sulphate (DHEA-S), and growth hormone (GH) in all subjects were assessed before and after the program. Muscle damaged index was effectively changed in low exercise intensity group. However, aging-related hormones were effectively changed in high exercise intensity group. DHEA-S and GH were significantly increased in the 70% intensity group than the other groups.

The present study conducted mock-up tests under the simulated sewage environments to examine the practical significance and limitation of coating materials that were previously developed on the basis of the bacterial glycocalix as a protection of concrete structures exposed to microbiological and sulphate attacks. The variations of the compressive strength and mass of the concrete due to the sulphate attack were measured using cylinder specimens. The bacteria growth and glycocalix formulation were calculated from the samples extracted from the sewage pipes. The next generation sequencing analysis was also conducted for environmental damage assessment due to the use of Rhodobacter capsulatus in the simulated sewage environments. The mock-up tests revealed that the developed coating materials have a good potential in resisting the sulphate attack, indicating no reduction on compressive strength and mass of the coated concrete under the sewage environment. At the age of 91 days, the concentrations of viable bacteria and glycocalix measured from the hardened coating materials were 1.4×104cell/mL and 67.5mg/㎤, respectively. Moreover, harmful strains were not observed in the sewage water including glycocalix-coated concrete pipes. This implies that Rhodobacter capsulatus used in the coating materials does not influence negatively the microorganism cluster in the sewage environments.
The main objective of this study is the assessment of the ability of limestone mortars to resist to different chemical attacks. The ability of polypropylene (PP) fibres waste used as reinforcement of these concrete materials to enhance their durability is also studied. Crushed sand 0/2 mm which is a fine limestone residue obtained by the crushing of natural rocks in aggregates industry is used for the fabrication of the mortar. The fibres used, which are obtained from the waste of domestic plastic sweeps' fabrication, have a length of 20 mm and a diameter ranging between 0.38 and 0.51 mm. Two weight fibres contents are used, 0.5 and 1%. The durability tests carried out in this investigation included the water absorption by capillarity, the mass variation, the flexural and the compressive strengths of the mortar specimens immersed for 366 days in 5% sodium chloride, 5% magnesium sulphate and 5% sulphuric acid solutions. A mineralogical analysis by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and a visual inspection are used for a better examination of the quality of tested mortars and for better interpretation of their behaviour in different solutions. The results indicate that the reinforcement of limestone mortar by PP fibres waste is an excellent solution to improve its chemical resistance and durability. Moreover, the presence of PP fibres waste does not affect significantly the water absorption by capillarity of mortar nether its mass variation, when exposed to chloride and sulphate solutions. While in sulphuric acid, the mass loss is higher with the presence of PP fibres waste, especially after an exposure of 180 days. The results reveal that these fibres have a considerable effect of the flexural and the compressive behaviour of mortar especially in acid solution, where a reduction of strength loss is observed. The mineralogical analysis confirms the good behaviour of mortar immersed in sulphate and chloride solutions; and shows that more gypsum is formed in mortar exposed to acid environment causing its rapid degradation. The visual observation reveals that only samples exposed to acid attack during 366 days have showed a surface damage extending over a depth of approximately 300 ㎛.
