Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) are the principal chemicals known as perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAs). Despite the widespread use of these compounds, relatively little is known about their fate and effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the toxic effects of PFOS and PFOA on Daphnia magna. In the acute toxicity test, D. magna were exposed for 48 hours at concentrations of 0, 30, 45, 67.5, 101.25 and 151.88 mg/L PFOS, and 0, 100, 160, 225, 337.5 and 506.25 mg/L PFOA, respectively. In the case of chronic toxicity test, D. magna were exposed through water for 21 days at concentrations of 0, 0.375, 0.75, 1.5, 3 and 6 mg/L PFOS, and 0, 1.25, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20 mg/L PFOA, respectively. Acute toxicity was assessed on the basis of immobility, while chronic toxicity was assessed on the basis of fecundity. The acute toxicity test on PFOS and PFOA showed that the values of $EC_{50}$ were 50.90 mg/L and 253.47 mg/L, respectively. In the chronic test, fecundity was reduced significantly at 1.5 mg/L of PFOS and 10 mg/L of PFOA, respectively. These results indicated that PFOS is more toxic to zooplankton than PFOA, and both chemicals have some hazard demonstrates risk for acute or chronic toxicity to freshwater organism.
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)와 가교제 Poly(styrene sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) (PSSA-MA)을 적용하여 제조된 막을 이용하여 수증기 및 공기에 대한 막 투과 실험을 하였다.
It is known that lactic-acid bacteria (LAB) helps keeping the intestine healthy and to enhance its immunologic competence. In addition, it is known to control the composition of the enterobacteria and the intestinal inflammatory reaction by inducing immunological enhancement. This study was performed, in a mouse model, to test the treatment and preventive effects of LAB of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which was induced by a blend of LAB-administering trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). To obtain the animal model of IBD, 2% TNBS was rectally administered once to a five-week-old male Balbc/J mouse. A probiotic combination was administered to the prevention group five times a week for eight weeks before the inducement of enteritis, and the mixture was administered to the treatment group five times a week, after the administration of TNBS. The changes in the levels of the cytokines of the lymph nodes and the tissue of the large intestine were observed, both with the naked eye and with a microscope. The observation showed that the levels of inflammatory cells, infiltration, and necrosis were much lower in the LAB-administered groups than in that of the control group. In addition, the inflammatory cytokines (e.g., TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-17A) decreased in the lymph nodes and the tissues of the large intestine. The results indicated that the administration of the combination to the animal model suppressed the inflammatory cytokines in the large intestine and in the lymph nodes, which in turn suppressed the progression of colitis.

In the present study, crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membranes were prepared at different temperatures using poly(styrene sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) (PSSA_MA) (PVA:PSSA_MA = 1:9). The hybrid mem-branes were prepared by varying the TEOS content between 5 and 30 wt%. The PSSA_MA was used both as a crosslinking agent and the hydrophilic group donor ($-SO_3H$ and/or-COOH). The proton conductivity increased with up to 20 wt% TEOS, but decreased above this level, although the water content decreased with increasing TEOS content. This result suggests that the silica doped into the membrane improved the formation of proton-conduction pathways due to the absorption of molecular water. The PVA/PSSA_MA/Silica containing TEOS 20% showed both high proton conductivity (0.026 S/cm at $90^{\circ}C$) and low methanol permeability ($5.55{\times}10^{-7}cm^2/s$).
In this study, we report a novel antioxidant ZnO nanoparticle that is newly designed and prepared by simple surface modification process. Antioxidative functionality is provided by the immobilization of antioxidant of 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid (galic acid, GA) onto the surface of ZnO nanoparticles. Microstructure and physical properties of the ZnO@GA nanoparticles were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and steady state spectroscopic methods. The antioxidative activity of ZnO@GA was also evaluated using ABTS (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation decolorization assay. Notably, ZnO@GA showed strong antioxidative activity in spite of the conjugation process of GA on the ZnO surface. These results provide that GA-coating onto ZnO nanoparticles may offer an intriguing potential for biomedical devices as well as nanomaterials.
The sulfuric acid sulfonation mixtures of 2-aminonaphthalene, contained 2-aminonaphthalene, Dahl's acid, Broenner's acid, amino-F-acid and Baden acid, can be determined quantitatively by multicomponent spectrophotometric analysis. The analysis was performed in diluted sodium hydroxide aqueous solution and based on the ultraviolet absorption of the sodium salts of each isomers. The determination of quantity of each isomers was performed by subjection the absorbances of the unknown mixture and of its constituents, gathered at a large number of wavelengths, to a least square treatment by an electronic personer computer. This method provided a rapid analysis of such complex mixture, and the standard deviation was ${\pm}1.65$ mole %.
Conducting polymers are finding increasing number of applications in various electronic devices such as chemical sensors, electrochromic display, light emitting diodes, etc. Polyaniline(PANI) ranks among highly prospective conduction polymers. PANI was first synthesis in 1862[1] and has been extensively studied as a conducting polymer since the 1980s[2]. The side range of electrical, electrochemical and optical properties coupled with good environmental stability makes PANI potentially attractive for application as an electronic material. (omitted)
