  • There is an increasing need for complex and large projects to be carried out quickly. As the duration, size, and cost of the project increase, concerns about project failure are also rising. Finding factors that hinder the performance of an effective project and eliminating them in advance or controlling and managing them more effectively can be a more direct way to secure the success of the project. Previous studies have identified compositional dimensions that are classified according to attributes, covering the various obstacles that affect the success of the project through existing literature. It is a follow-up to previous research. Using DEMATEL techniques, we would like to propose to explore the appropriate measures that an entity and organization can take by identifying the causality between factors through cross-impact analysis of project disabilities and even presenting factors that may arise when they are identified. As a result of the analysis, according to the indicators to evaluate the importance, 8 factors were found to be relatively important factors, excluding the factors that Failure of project feasibility analysis and Technical environment change. In addition, 5 factors were found to be causative factors; Technical environment change, Unclarity project plan, Strategic consistency error, Inaccuracy of requirement definition, and Failure of project feasibility analysis. In contrast, the remaining 5 factors were found to be the result factors; Lack of benefits realization, Negative attitude of top management, Stakeholder conflict, Difficulty of process management, and Disturbance of communication.

  • Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in using information technology for competitive advantage. A sustainable advantage is the key to the survival and growth of a firm. The successful implementation of information technology is dependent on efficient information systems planning. But the correct and complete information, requirements for effective information systems planning are frequently very difficult to obtain. In this paper the Critical Success Factors(CSF) method was employed as a means of managerial information requirements analysis for information systems planning in Korea's steel industry. CSFs are one of the few areas of activity that must go well to ensure the success of an organization. This paper addresses the concept and hierarchy of CSF analysis as a methodology in identifying corporate information needs and concludes with the use and benefit of results of CSF analysis.

  • Since its introduction in mid 1990s, Financial Crisis in Korea, knowledge management (KM) has been considered as a new, optimal way of corporate management style. And a large number of researches, either theoretically or empirically, were carried out in order to find out what the key success factors will be in common. However, though key success factors are extracted, it can hardly be a successful project if those are not well matched for the unique industry characteristics, still more in construction industry. Even we can find some KM precedents in construction industry, it can hardly be revealed how far they exerted themselves in order to match key factors with industry characteristics. Hence, at the dawn of implementing KM, this research work will scrutinize key success factors (KSFs) derived from previous studies and funnel those KSFs into construction domain. Then rearranged KSFs will be proposed with each key issues. Therefore, this article can contribute to setting strategies for KM in construction sector.

  • This paper proposes a model to assess the maturity level of Six Sigma activities. We classify the maturity level into 5 stages: initial, forming, storming, performing and mature stage. To evaluate the maturity level, 10 categories of Six Sigma with 3 factors each are identified: management leadership, belt system, expert training, establishing execution system, compensation, organization, corporate culture, customer focus, project selection, and management of project results. Scoring 277 items in total, the value of each factor is evaluated by weighted average of those items. Maturity level is appraised by rating the sum of scores of 10 categories that are obtained by summing up the values of its 3 factors. Values of weights and criteria of rating maturity levels are determined by analyzing 90 companies and Six Sigma exper's opinion. This study also shows the actual appraisal results of some companies.

  • The purposes of this research are to empirically examine (1) the impact of application of IT in IT industry which is the main engine for creative economy, (2) the relationship between application of IT and corporate strategy, and (3) the influence of corporate strategy on application of IT and employment. To achieve the purpose of research, we conducted a survey on 187 CIOs in october 2013. Research findings confirm that application of IT provides competitive advantages such as efficiency, threat, functionality, attack, and integration and these traits of IT significantly contribute to employment. And research results show that the moderating effects of corporate strategy on the relationship between application of IT and employment are different depending upon the type of corporate strategy. Thus firms in IT industry should consider traits of IT more seriously when they establish corporate strategy.

  • Purpose: Existing precedent studies include success factors of individual management innovation activities constantly. However, those studies have limitations about the common key success factors of individual management innovation activities. Methods: For this study, we investigate the key success factors using literature research of the most typical management innovation activities adopted and implemented by many companies in Korea, such as 6sigma, TQM, Lean 6sigma, ERP, TPM, BPR, Project Management, System Engineering. Factors emerging repeatedly was combined into common factors and inherent factors that are necessary for the success of individual management innovation activities are designated to essential factors. Results: 'Essential factors for Six Sigma' consist of 5 items. Black belt operating system, personnel management system linkage, the correct management of the data, perform improvement projects associated with financial performance financial result, linked to financial performance improvement project, project progress management. 'Essential factors of TQM' are arranged 4 items. Quality team's independence and role, goal-setting, Quality Information System, corporate's philosophy of quality first. 'Essential factors of Lean Six Sigma' are the selection of value stream which is based on the customer needs and the value creation and identify the project based on the selected value in the company. • Factory automation(FA) is a part of technological innovation to make production process more efficient and it also facilitates technological innovation by accumulating the internalization ability of newly imported technology Introduction of FA, however, does not guarantee the increase of production efficiency and high product quality, moreover, the competitiveness of firm. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between firm's behavioral characteristics during implementation process of FA and organizational performance, and to find out success factors of FA. Results of the case studies for 4 SME's show that financial stability and the fitness between corporate strategy and the purpose of FA are the necessary conditions for successful implementation of FA. But the organizational restructuring for new manufacturing system, openness of all communication channels, and common mind of employees are also needed to achieve the high degree of performance from FA, especially the benefits of qualitative or organizational level.

  • In general, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners consider innovation by producers as a primary mode in a market economy. However, the recent research has shown that some of the most important, novel products and processes have been developed by users-both user firms and individual end-users. According to von Hippel [1988], he found that they were the developers who made about 80 percent of the most important scientific instrument innovations as well as the major innovations in semiconductor processing. In this research, we conducted grounded research on user-led innovation at the corporate-level. Also, we analyzed the train development project (SR000) of Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT). We focused on identifying the success factors of user-led innovation, and development process.
