Stereoscopic Video Coding for Subway Accident Monitoring System (지하철 사고 감시를 위한 스테레오 비디오 부호화 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme for subway accident monitoring system. The proposed designed for providing flexible video among various displays, such ass control center, station employees and train driver. We uses MPEG-2 standard for coding the left-view sequence and IBMDC coding scheme predicts matching block by interpolating both motion and disparity predicted macroblocks. To provide efficient stereoscopic video service, we define both temporally and spatially scalable layers for each eye's-view by using the concept of Spatio-Temporal scalability. The experimental results show the efficiency of proposed coding scheme by comparison with already known methods and the advantages of disparity estimation in terms of scalability overhead. According to the experimental results, we expect the proposed functionalities will play a key role in establishing highly flexible stereoscopic video codec for ubiquitous display environment where devices and network connections are heterogeneous.

The influential Factors of excessive daytime sleepiness for public Service Workers at Subway Stations (지하철 역무직 근로자의 주간수면과다증 영향 요인)

  • This study was conducted in an attempt to determine the factors that cause excessive daytime sleepiness among 927 subway station employees located in Seoul. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire through the web site and were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 statistical software. Results showed that marital status made a statistically significant difference in general characteristics, and hobby/leisure activities made a statistically significant difference in health-related characteristics. Workplace and satisfaction with the organization made a significant difference in job-related characteristics, and physical environment, job demand, job autonomy, relationship conflicts, organizational system, inappropriate compensation, and organizational culture made a statistically significant difference in job stress factors. Factors that affect excessive daytime sleepiness were hobby and leisure activities, satisfaction with the organization, physical environment, job demand, job autonomy, organizational system and organizational culture, showing a 20.5% explanatory power. This study proposes the operation of programs that can improve the physical environment, change the organizational system and increase satisfaction with the organizational culture among station employees in order that they can enjoy their hobby/leisure life and relieve job stress so that they can avoid excessive daytime sleepiness.

  • Rapid developments of industry and economics have made a metropolis which demands an effective urban transport management system (UTMS). Specially, this paper considers a subway surveillance system based on integrated wireless LAN technologies for public safety. Since a current subway platform security entirely relies on conventional closed circuit television camera (CCTV) or human operators, subway train drivers cannot detect platform states and cope with abnormal situations or accidents immediately. However, through the IP cameras and some wireless routers, high qualify images of the platform conditions can be directly delivered to the train drivers and other station employees in advance of train entering the platform. In this paper, several design issues and problems are discussed when building up the subway management system. Further, we illustrate a system model with the system requirements in real parametric values in order to draw concrete system designs and to realize a practical implementation of the future UTMS.

  • The ATVM(Automatic Ticket Vending Machine) of Seoul Metropolitan is a Kiosk which is called Ticket Vending and Reload Device at the subway station. It is implemented for integrating transportation card system which is separated from a paper subway ticket and replacing ticket selling employees. However, since the automatic ticket vending machine was accepted in 2009, there has been confusion of purchasing a ticket. Therefore, it requires improvement of usability. This study, conducts a literature search. Also, the interface of ATVM is analyzed. Finally user observation proceeded at Sinnonhyeon Station of Seoul Metro line 9. The results show that selecting a destination and section fares is confusing process for user. Based on this survey the improvements of UI are proposed to expect advanced directions of the ATVM.

  • Passenger safety is a primary concern of railway system but, it has been urgent issue that dozens of people are killed every year when they falloff from train platforms. Recently, advancements in IT have enabled applying vision sensors to railway environments, such as CCTV and stereo camera sensors. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme for subway accident monitoring system. We uses MPEG-2 standard for coding the left-view sequence and IBMDC for predicting the P- and B-types of frames of the right-view sequence. IBMDC predicts matching block by interpolating both motion and disparity predicted macroblocks.   • This study analyzes the factors that influence the number of public transportation passengers. By comparing the major TOD planning elements such as mixed-use level, job-housing proximity level, comparison of the density and pure density in the 66-autonomous city townships through a comparison such as TOD plan element achievements and indicators are chosen. A model is derived by correlation analysis and regression analysis of the parameters. The result of the regression analysis of the station influence area (SIA) in Incheon, the parameters that effect the number of passengers of public transportation are the number of employees, population, number of bus stops in the SIA, and the distance between the bus stop and the subway entrance. Therefore, as the number of employees and the resident population increase, the volume of traffic increases. Also, the number of public transportation users increases when there are more bus stops and when the distance between the bus stop and the subway entrance is short. This study shows that subways and SIA has achieved many parts of the TOD in Incheon, because the SIA around 29 subways and 11 Seoul-Incheon trail stations already included important TOD planning elements.

An Analysis of the Effects of Customer Characteristics on Sales of Alley Market Area Using Geographically Weighted Regression (지리가중회귀분석을 이용한 고객특성별 골목상권 매출액 영향 연구)

  • With the revitalization of alley market area becoming a major goal of the urban regeneration project, an understanding on customer characteristics that affect the sales of alley market areas is needed. As spatial heterogeneity appears to exist in alley market areas, the use of GWR (Geographically Weighted Regression) is required as an alternative to OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) regression. This study analyzes effects of customer characteristics on sales of 1007 alley market areas in Seoul. Comparing R squared and AICc, results show that GWR is better than OLS regression. According to OLS regression, the ratio of female, the ratio of 40's and 50's, the number of employees, the opening rate of establishment, the density of building and the size of alley market area have positive effects on sales, while the ratio of 20's and 30's, the distance of bus stop and that of subway station have negative effects. As a result of comparing local regression coefficients of geographically weighted regression analysis, the ratio of female customers has the greatest effect on the northwestern region, followed by the southwestern region, the central region and the northeastern region. The ratio of 20's and 30's and that of 40's and 50's effect on the southeastern and northeastern regions, and then the southwestern region. It is expected that this study will help to identify marketing target for each alley market area.

  • In accordance with the rapidly growing number of street food service without a registration, a study was undertaken to determine the present state of food service by the covered wagon bar, through an investigation in Jamwondong, around the south gate market and Kangnam subway station, in Seoul, between July 25th and August 25th of 1987. The survey was comprised of three parts: 1) foodservice operation in covered wagon, 2) personal and food handling hygiene, 3) food behaviors of customers. A total of 54 covered wagon bars, consisting of 51.8% mobile bars and 48.2% non-mobile bars, operating in the above three locations, were investigated. Survey results show non-mobile covered wagon bars to be more popular among persons in their thrities and fourties than among teens or the elderly; also among males than females; among company employees and college students than others. Seventy five percent of the mobile covered wagon bars served snack type foods and others served wine and foods for wine, in contrast to hundred percent of the non-mobile covered wagon bars served wine and foods for wine. The survey found many problems of hygiene, in method of food purchasing, menu planning, food preparation, dish washing treatment of leftovers and water supply, as well as personal hygiene. However, customers prefer the casual and popular atmosphere at the counter of the covered wagon bar. Finally, the study emphasizes a need for better operation of covered wagon bar, improvement of food stuff handling and the way of food services and personal hygiene. A change of the registration system from the illegal operation are urgently needed for better quality food services of covered wagon bars.
