Generally the news subtitle is considered as be free of fault. But actually it has committed a fault in many respects. Among these I made a special study of phonological faults; alternation of graphemes, insertion of graphemes, deletion of graphemes and the orthography of loanwords. It is very surprising that the news subtitle has many faults against Korean orthography, We must try to get rid of the faults in the news subtitle.

This research aimed at providing the direction for future improvement of broadcast subtitle design by identifying the user perception on broadcast subtitles of Terrestrial DMB. First, we contemplated on the existing research about broadcast subtitles. As a result, we found out that broadcast subtitle plays an essential role when watching a program and that the minimization of letters, clear fonts and color arrangement, rearrangement of components were identified as main factors that increase readability. However, the terrestrial DMB user evaluation on image quality, composition, color and brightness was not that positive. In addition, the evaluation on the readability of broadcast subtitle, information transmission, subtitle composition, letter font, number and size of letter was more negative. Developing a subtitle design which considers user convenience and suits terrestrial DMB screens in aspects of broadcast subtitle form and composition, limit of information, clearness and size of the letter is required.

This study intended to investigate the effects of the subtitle location on the decreased working memory abilities caused by aging. A junior group (average age: 26, SD: 3.06, N=27) and a senior group (average age: 61.69, SD=4.18, N=26) participated in this study and they all performed N-back tasks which measured the working memory ability of the participants and video subtitle recognition tasks that assessed the most effectively recognized subtitle locations in the video. The results of the N-back task revealed slower response times and low accuracy rates in the senior group in comparison to the junior group, suggesting lower working memory abilities in the senior group vis-à-vis the junior group. The deterioration of working memory due to aging also negatively influenced the 'left-bottom' subtitle location in the video subtitle recognition task and positively influenced the 'left-center' location of the screen. The deterioration of working memory ability did not affect other subtitle locations. By examining the positive or negative effects of the deterioration of working memory ability as a function of age on subtitle locations, the present study suggests that the selection of suitable subtitle locations taking into account the ages of video viewers would cause information to be more effectively displayed on screen.

In this study, the effect of augmented reality subtitle content on users was investigated by using a subjective evaluation method and a statistical approach. The human factor was defined as subtitle position and font size. Then, we analyzed the effects of the defined factors on human eye comfort and visibility. Ten participants conducted related survey evaluation tasks with a 1-minute break after viewing the content for 3 minutes.

The technical advancement in and the widespread expansion of use of the internet has recently led to an increase in high bandwidth multimedia data usage. This is largely due to an unfettered access to the internet. The intrinsic merit of the internet, however, brings about a side effect：multimedia date can easily be duplicated recklessly. This invokes the problem of intellectual property right violation. Focusing on this matter, multi-faceted studies are being conducted now. This paper aims to provide, by applying steganography and encryption methods into the SMIL files which supply subtitle data, the intellectual property protection of both motion picture and its subtitle data, as well as the integrity of the contents in question. In order to achieve the above goal, the authors show a particular method how to safely embed subtitle data into the given frames, after they separate subtitle data to encrypt them. By doing this, the authors suggests, the intellectual property right to the subtitle data as well as their integrity can be protected and achieved respectively. Besides, an integrity service for motion picture can be made.

This paper describes the development of a network-based passenger information system(PIS) which provides the convenience of the passenger of the train and heightens the effect of the subtitle service, the advertising and the shelter guidance broadcasting against the urgent event. The existing system uses VGA signal distributor in order to broadcast information with image and subtitle and voice guidance. In this paper we improve the existing system by applying the UDP and TCP/IP protocol and use a reference clock to solve a data loss and synchronization problem which occurs in this case. We also developed an XML-based subtitle authoring tool which can edit and play the subtitles with various 3D to improve the automatic guidance broadcasting and advertisement effect according to the operation schedule of the train. The system performance was evaluated through a simulation.

Deaf subtitles provide the hearing impaired with visual elements, commentary, and enjoyment of TV programs. Subtitles in game play are a great help to the game play for the hearing impaired as well as the average user. This paper aims at the academic research on the BIT subtitle system BIT, and is intended to help game play and game broadcasting of the hearing impaired.

Recently, many videos such as online lecture videos caused by COVID-19 have been generated. However, due to the limitation of working hours and lack of cost, they are only a part of the videos with subtitles. It is emerging as an obstructive factor in the acquisition of information by deaf. In this paper, we try to develop a system that automatically generates subtitles using voice recognition and generates subtitles by separating sentences using the ending and time to reduce the time and labor required for subtitle generation.

This is an experimental research with the theoretical background of agenda setting effect and elaboration likelihood model studying 'whether visual cues such as imagery and subtitle of TV environmental news have effect on the viewers' perception?', 'whether visual cues such as imagery and subtitle of TV environmental news have differential effect on the viewers' perception, depending on the viewers' involvement in the environmental issue?'. This experimental research found that the more highly exposed subjects considers environment issue more important than the less exposed, during the process, visual cues such as imagery and subtitle in TV news have an effect on agenda setting. Futhermore visual cues such as imagery and subtitle have stronger effect on the perception of the less involved than that of the more highly involved as a unified peripheral cue. However the effect of environmental involvement as independent peripheral cue couldn't have meaningful statistical support. Despite the fact that many previous researchers have shown that verbal cues of TV news have effect on the perception of viewers, little attempt has been made to investigate effect of visual cues on the TV viewers' perception. Therefore, this research has an important implication as an early proof in a new stream of visual agenda setting and elaboration research.

This paper proposes an algorithm and its data structure to support real-time full-text search for the streamed or broadcasted multimedia data containing real-time stenograph text. Since the traditional indexing method used at information retrieval area uses the linguistic information, there is a heavy cost. Therefore, we propose the algorithm and its data structure based on suffix array, which is a simple data structure and has low space complexity. Suffix array is useful frequently to search for huge text. However, subtitle text of multimedia data is to get longer by time. Therefore, suffix array must be reconstructed because subtitle text is continually changed. We propose the data structure called prefix array and search algorithm using it.
