Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) have been made possible by the emergence of small and lightweight wireless systems such as Bluetooth, enabled devices and PDAs. Antennas are an essential part of any WBAN system and due to various technical requirements and physical constraints, careful consideration of their design and deployment is needed. This paper is proposing on the design of wearable antenna as parts of clothing to serve communications functions, such as tracking and navigation in health care applications. The substrates of the wearable antennas will be made from textile materials and since it is wearable, it should have a small size, be light weight, low maintenance, and unobtrusive. This proposed paper will also investigate the influence of different parameters for wearable antenna including types of textile/substrate to ensure that the antenna design satisfies WBAN requirements. The characteristics and behavior of the antenna need to adhere to specifications set by wireless standards and system technology requirements. This means that the transmitting and receiving frequency bands of the various units need to be chosen accordingly. Since there are restrictions on the level of power to which the human body can be exposed to, the antenna as well as other RF system components must be designed to meet these restrictions. Antenna gain, which directly affects power transmitted, is a critical parameter in ensuring power levels fall within the safety guidelines and so will be of primary importance in the design. The electromagnetic interaction between WBAN antennas and devices and the human body will also be explored.

Gibberellin(GA) 3-$\beta$ hydroxylation is very important for the shoot elogation in the higher plants, since only 3$\beta$-hydryoxylated GAs promote shoot elogation in several plants. Fluctuation of 3$\beta$-hydryoxylase activity was examined during seed maturation using two cultivars of , P. vulgaris, Kentucky Wonder (normal) and Masterpiece (dwarf). Very immature seeds of both cultivars contain high level of 3$\beta$-hydroxylase activity (per mg protein). Both cultivars showed maximum of enzyme activity (per seed) in the middle of their maturation process. Gibberellin 3$\beta$-hydroxylase catalyzing the hydroxylation of GA20 to GA1 was purified 313-fold from very early immature seeds of P. vulgaris. Crude soluble enzyme extracts were purified by 15% methanol precipitation, hydrophobic interaction chromatogrphy, DEAE ion exchange column chromatography and gel filtration HPLC. The 3$\beta$-hydroxylase activity was unstable and lost much of its activity duting the purification. The molecular weight of purified enzyme was extimated to be 42, 000 by gel filtration HPLC and SDS-PAGE. The enzyme exhibited maximum activity at pH 7.7. The Km values for [2.3-3H] GA20 and [2.3-3H]GA9 were 0.29 $\mu$M and 0.33 $\mu$M, respectively. The enzyme requires 2-oxoglutarate as a cosubstrate; the Km value for 2-oxoglutarate was 250 $\mu$M using 3H GA20 as a substrate. Fe2+ and ascorbate significantly activated the enzyme at all purification steps, while catalase and BSA activated the purified enzyme only. The enzyme was inhibited by divalent cations Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Hg2+. Effects of several GAs and GA anaogues on the putrified 3$\beta$-hydroxylase were examined using [3H]GA9 and GA20 as a substrates. Among them, GA5, GA9, GA15, GA20 and GA44 inhibited the enzyme activity. [13C, 3H] GA20 was converted by the partially purified enzyme preparation to [13C, 3H]GA1, GA5 and GA6, which were identified by GC-MS, GA9 was converted only GA4, GA15 and GA44 were converted to GA37 and GA38, respectively. GA5 was epoxidized to GA6 by the preparation. This suggests that 3$\beta$-hydroxylation of GA20 and epoxidation of GA5 are catalyzed by the same enzyme in P, vulgaris.

1-, 3-, 9-, and 21-Monolayer Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films of stearic acid were deposited on silver-coated glass slides at the surface pressure of 30 mN/m. Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) reflection-absorption spectra (RAS) of these LB films were recorded at various temperatures from 31 to $72^{\circ}C.$ The spectra at $31^{\circ}C$ exhibited characteristic features of highly perpendicular orientation of the hydrocarbon chain. In the 1-monolayer LB film, the C=O stretching band was not observed, presumably due to the image dipole effect on the silver surface. In the 1-and 3-monolayer LB films, the trans isomer of stearic acid was prominent, but the cis isomer was dominant in the 21-monolayer LB film. FTIR-RAS measurements at an elevated temperature indicated that the chain melting temperature increases and approached to the bulk melting point with increasing the number of monolayer, except for the 1-monolayer LB film which has a higher melting temperature than the 3-monolayer film due to the strong interaction with the silver substrate.
An intracellular ${\beta}-xylosidase$ from Paenibacillus sp. DG-22 was purified to homogeneity by ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction and gel-filtration chromatography. The molecular weight of the enzyme was measured to be 156,000 by gel filtration and 80,000 by SDS-PAGE, indicating that the enzyme consisted of two identical subunits. The purified enzyme exhibited maximum activity at $65^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.5. It retained 89% of its initial activity up to 60 min at $60^{\circ}C$ and had a half-life of 25 min at $65^{\circ}C$. The enzyme was highly specific for pNPX as the substrate. It showed little or no activity against other p-nitrophenyl glycosides and xylans. The $K_m\;and\;V_{max}$ for pNPX was 0.53 mM and 3.18 U/mg protein, respectively. The ${\beta}-xylosidase$ was strongly inhibited by $Ag^+,\;Fe^{2+},\;Hg^{2+}\;and\;Zn^{2+}$ and slightly activated by DTT. The hydrolysis product from xylobiose, xylotriose, and xylotetraose was xylose.
The broadband high power 3-way combiner was designed and fabricated for the digital TV repeater. To achieve increase of the bandwidth and the high power capability, Wilkinson type power divider was adopted in our research. First of all, Wilkinson type power divider of equal-split and unequal-split were combined, and the characteristics of the four port in-phase power combiner was simulated for each thickness of dielectric substrates. As the results of simulation, the power combiner fabricated by using dielectric substrate of 120 mil-thickness has the characteristics as follows: insertion loss of less than -651 dB, reflection coefficient of less than -13 dB, isolation among the output ports of less than -15 dB, and pose difference among the output ports of smiler than 13$^{\circ}$. Therefore, this power combiner was possible to improve the limit of microstrip line width due to high impedance, the problem of power loss due to interaction between strip lines in a high power combiner and narrow bandwidth simultaneously. Furthermore, making broadband and high power could be achieved since the fabricated 3-way combiner has good characteristics of insertion loss, the reflection coefficient, separation between ports, and phase difference.
Phase-change optical disk very rapid recording, high densification of data, resulting in high feedback rate and good C/N(carrier to noise) ratio of a feedback signal. However, repetitive thermal energy may cause the deformation of a disk or the lowering of an eliminability and a cyclability of the recording. The lowering of the cyclability can be reduced by insertion of thin layer of ZnS-$SiO_2$ dielectric thin film in appropriate disk structure between the upper and lower part of the recording film. Using the Taguchi method, optimum conditions satisfying both the optimized quality characteristic values and the scattering values for film formation were found to be the target R.F. power of 200W, the substrate R.F. power of 20W, the Ar pressure of 6mTorr, and the electrode distance of 6cm. From the refractive index data, the existence of the strong interaction between the electrode distance and Ar pressure was confirmed, and so was the large effect of the electrode distance on transmittance. According to the analysis of TEM and XRD, the closer the electrode distance was, the finer was the grain size due to the high deposition rate. However, the closer electrode distance brought the negative effect on the morphology of the film and caused the reduction of transmittance. AFM and SEM analyses showed that the closer the electrode distance was, the worse was the morphology due to the high rate of the deposition. Under optimum condition, the deposited thin film showed a good morphology and dense microstructure with less defects.
Thin $700^{\circ}C$films were formed through layer inversion of Co/Nb bilayer during rapid thermal annealing(RTA). The Nb interlayer seems to effectively prevent over-consumption of Si and to control the silicidation reaction by forming Co-Nb intermetallic compounds and removing the native oxide formed on Si substrate which interferes the uniform Co-Si interaction. The final layer structure of the Co/Nb bilayer after $700^{\circ}C$ RTA was found to be ${Nb}_{2}{O}_{3}$/${Co}_{2}$Si.CoSi/${NbCo}_{x}$/Nb(O, C)/${CoSi}_{2}$/ Si. The layer inversion and the formation of a stable CoSi, phase occurred above $700^{\circ}C$, and the Nb silicides were not found at any annealing temperature. These may be due to the formation of very stable Co-Nb intermetallic compounds and Nb oxides which limit the moving of Co and Si.
The purpose of this work is to develope sodium-containing nonstoichiometric apatitic coatings on solid substrate. The apatitic coatings prepared at different concentrations of sodium salt indicated that the presence of sodium ions exerted significant effects on the physicochemical properties of the apatitic coating including surface morphology, chemical state, and Ca/P ratio. The variation of these properties was sustained up to 0.01 mM of sodium ion concentration. The ratio of calcium to phosphorus was varied from 2.18 to 2.03 which indicated the apatitic coating prepared in this study was calcium-rich nonstoichiometric apatite. The structure of all the samples appeared to be low crystalline. In the presence of sodium ion within the apaptitic coating, the adhesion of human osteoblast-like SaOS-2 cells was significantly promoted. On the other hand, the proliferation of the cells on the apatitic coatings was decreased with the increase of sodium ions. This reverse response of SaOS-2 cells indicates that the interaction between SaOS-2 and apatitic surface triggered considerable changes in intracellular mechanisms including cellular signal transductions.
The basic mechanistic aspects of the interaction and practical considerations related to polymer ablation were briefly reviewed. Photochemical and photothermal effects, which highly depend on laser wavelength have close correlation with each other. In this study, multi-scanning laser ablation processing of polymer with a DPSS (Diode Pumped Solid State) 3rd harmonic Nd:YVO$_4$ laser (355 nm) was developed to fabricate a three-dimensional micro shape. Polymer fabrication using DPSSL has some advantages compared with the conventional polymer ablation process using KrF and ArF laser with 248 nm and 193 nm wavelength. These advantages include pumping efficiency and low maintenance cost. And this method also makes it possible to fabricate 2D patterns or 3D shapes rapidly and cheaply because CAD/CAM software and precision stages are used without complex projection mask techniques. Photomachinability of polymer is highly influenced by laser wavelength and by the polymer's own chemical structure. So the optical characteristics of polymers for a 355 nm laser source is investigated experimentally and theoretically. The photophysical and photochemical parameters such as laser fluence, focusing position, and ambient gas were considered to reduce the plume effect which re-deposits debris on the surface of substrate. These phenomena affect the surface roughness and even induce delamination around the ablation site. Thus, the process parameters were tuned to optimize for gaining precision surface shape and quality. This maskless direct photomachining technology using DPSSL could be expected to manufacture tile prototype of micro devices and molds for the laser-LIGA process.
In the oral cavity, there are hundreds of microbial species that exist as planktonic cells or are incorporated into biofilms. The accumulation and proliferation of pathogenic bacteria in the oral biofilm can lead to caries and periodontitis, which are typical oral diseases. The oral bacteria in the biofilm not only can resist environmental stress inside the oral cavity, but also have a 1,000 times higher resistance to antibiotics than planktonic cells by genes exchange through the interaction between cells in the oral biofilm. Therefore, if the formation of oral biofilm is suppressed or removed, oral diseases caused by bacterial infection can be more effectively prevented or treated. In particular, since oral biofilms have the characteristic of forming a biofilm by gathering several bacteria, quorum sensing, a signaling system between cells, can be a target for controlling the oral biofilm. In addition, a method of inhibiting biofilm formation by using arginine, an alkali-producing substrate of oral bacteria, is used to convert the distribution of oral microorganisms into an environment similar to that of healthy teeth or inhibit the secretion of glucosyltransferase by S. mutans to inhibit the formation of non-soluble glucans. It can be a target to control oral biofilm. This method of inhibiting or removing the oral biofilm formation rather than inducing the death of pathogenic bacteria in the oral cavity will be a new strategy that can selectively prevent or therapeutic avenues for oral diseases including dental caries.
