This paper presents a process optimization of antireflection (AR) coating on crystalline Si solar cells. Theoretical and experimental investigations were performed on a double-layer AR (DLAR) coating of MgF$_2$/CeO$_2$. We investigated CeO$_2$ films as an AR layer because they have a proper refractive index of 2.46 and demonstrate the same lattice constant as Si substrate. RF sputter grown CeO$_2$ film showed strong dependence on a deposition temperature. The CeO$_2$ deposited at 40$0^{\circ}C$ exhibited a strong (111) preferred orientation and the lowest surface roughness of 6.87 $\AA$. Refractive index of MgF$_2$ film was measured as 1.386 for the most of growth temperature. An optimized DLAR coating showed a reflectance as low as 2.04% in the wavelengths ranged from 0.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 1.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. We achieved the efficiencies of solar cells greater than 15% with 3.12% improvement with DLAR coatings. Further details on MgF$_2$, CeO$_2$ films, and cell fabrication parameters are presented in this paper.

Copper sulfide (CuxS) has been extensively utilized as a counter electrode (CE) material for quantum dot solar cells (QDSCs) due to its exceptional catalytic activity for polysulfide electrolytes. The typical fabrication method of Cu2S CEs based on brass substrate is dangerous, involving the use of a highly concentrated hydrochloric acid solution in a relatively high temperature. In contrast, electroplating presents a safer alternative by employing a less acidic solution at a room temperature. In addition, the electroplating method increases the probability of obtaining CEs of consistent quality compared to the brass method. In this study, the optimized electroplating cycle for CuS CEs in QDSCs has been studied for the highly efficient photovoltaic performances. The QDSCs, featuring electroplated CuS CEs, achieved an impressive efficiency of 7.18%, surpassing the conventional method employing brass CEs, which yielded an efficiency of 6.62%.

ZnO is a promising material since it could be applied to many fields such as solar cells, laser diodes, thin films transistors and gas sensors. ZnO has a wide and direct band gap for about 3.37 eV at room temperature and a high exciton binding energy of 60 meV. In particular, ZnO features high sensitivity to toxic and combustible gas such as CO, NOX, so on. The development of gas sensors to monitor the toxic and combustible gases is imperative due to the concerns for enviromental pollution and the safety requirements for the industry. In this study, we investigated the effect of substrate temperature and post-annealing on structural and electrical properties of ZnO thin films. ZnO thin films were deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) at various temperatures at from room temperature to $600^{\circ}C$. After that, post-annealing were performed at $600^{\circ}C$. To inspect the structural properties of the deposited ZnO thin films, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was carried out. For gas sensors, the morphology of the films is dominant factor since it is deeply related with the film surface area. Therefore, the atomic force microscopy (AFM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) were used to observe the surface of the ZnO thin films. Furthermore, we analyzed the electrical properties by using a Hall measurement system.

Occurrence of epiphytic dinoflagellates (EPDs) in coastal waters off Jeju was first reported in 2011 based on 45 substrate samples from 24 macroalgal species. When re-analyzing, the extreme heterogeneous distribution of whole and genus-specific EPDs was reconfirmed across the sampling stations and substrate macroalgal species, as well as even across substrate samples of the same species. Abundance maximum of an EPD genus (cells g-wwt-1) at a fixed surface-to-volume ratio (SA/V ratio) of the macroalgal species increased as the SA/V ratio increased up to 500 (cm2 cm-3). However, the abundance maximum of Ostreopsis further increased even in the MG2 (morphological group 2) macroalgae with the SA/V ratios over 500. The number of substrate macroalgal species on the plane of the MG and sampling station was more or less evenly scattered than the average EPD abundance, which was primarily driven by Gambierdiscus and Ostreopsis. Of the total EPD abundance of the five stations, 90.6% were represented by the two most common and abundant genera, Gambierdiscus and Ostreopsis, each accounting for 41.6% and 49.0%. Spatially, 95.9% of the total EPD abundance was found in St. 4 and St. 5, of which St. 4 with higher water temperature had more Ostreopsis spp. (31.8%), and St. 5 with higher salinity had more Gambierdiscus spp. (27.3%). Thus, the environmental transition to favorable T-S condition to MG2, the thin filamentous macroalgal group with very high SA/V ratios, is thus likely to support further success in EPD genera led by Ostreopsis in the coastal waters of Jeju.
The structural and optoelectronic properties of polycrystalline CdS films up to several microns in thickness, fabricated by three different methods, are compared to one another for the purpose of preparing CdTe/CdS solar cells. All films were deposited on an indium tin oxide on glass substrate. The three methods are: 1) alternated spraying of cation and anion solution at room temperature; 2) spray pyrolysis with substrate temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$; 3) chemical bath deposition (CBD). Deposited films were thermally treated in various ways. All films showed a well-developed wurtzite structure. Films grown by the alternated-spray method and the chemical bath method consist of randomly-oriented crystallites with dimensions <0.5 microns. Annealing at $400^{\circ}C$ increases the crystallite size slightly. Films which were grown by pyrolysis at substrate temperatures from $400^{\circ}C\;to\;500^{\cir\c}C$ were oriented in the <002> direction. For growth by pyrolysis at $500^{\circ}C$, the surface is rough on a lateral scale of 0.1 to 0.3 microns. The optical band gap and defect states are investigated by optical absorption, photoluminescene, Raman, and photothermal deflection spectroscopies.

In-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy studies of SOFC cathode materials will be discussed in this presentation. The mixed conducting perovskites (ABO3) containing rare and alkaline earth metals on the A-site and a transition metal on the B-site are commonly used as cathodes for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). However, the details of the oxygen reduction reaction are still not clearly understood. The information about the type of adsorbed oxygen species and their concentration is important for a mechanistic understanding of the oxygen incorporation into these cathode materials. XPS has been widely used for the analysis of adsorbed species and surface structure. However, the conventional XPS experiments have the severe drawback to operate at room temperature and with the sample under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions, which is far from the relevant conditions of SOFC operation. The disadvantages of conventional XPS can be overcome to a large extent with a "high pressure" XPS setup installed at the BESSY II synchrotron. It allows sample depth profiling over 2 nm without sputtering by variation of the excitation energy, and most importantly measurements under a residual gas pressure in the mbar range. It is also well known that the catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction is very sensitive to their electrical conductivity and oxygen nonstoichiometry. Although the electrical conductivity of perovskite oxides has been intensively studied as a function of temperature or oxygen partial pressure (Po2), in-situ measurements of the conductivity of these materials in contact with the electrolyte as a SOFC configuration have little been reported. In order to measure the in-plane conductivity of an electrode film on the electrolyte, a substrate with high resistance is required for excluding the leakage current of the substrate. It is also hardly possible to measure the conductivity of cracked thin film by electrical methods. In this study, we report the electrical conductivity of perovskite $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}CoO_{3-{\delta}}$ (LSC) thin films on yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte quantitatively obtained by in-situ IR spectroscopy. This method enables a reliable measurement of the electronic conductivity of the electrodes as part of the SOFC configuration regardless of leakage current to the substrate and cracks in the film.
An alcohol oxidase from Hansenula polymorpha was strongly induced when cells were grown with 0.5% methanol supplementation as the carbon source. The induced Hansenula polymorpha alcohol oxidase was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity by using DEAE-Sephacel and Mono Q column chromatographys. The enzyme oxidized mainly primary aliphatic alcohols and exhibited high substrate specificity towards ethanol and methanol. The activity of the enzyme optimally proceeded at pH 8.5 and $50^{\circ}C$. The midpoint of the temperature-stability curve for the enzyme was approximately $52^{\circ}C$ and the enzyme was not completely inactivated even at $65^{\circ}C$ temperature. The enzyme showed resistance toward detergents and highly stable over 7 weeks of storage condition. This Hansenula polymorpha alcohol oxidase may be useful for the enzymatic determination of alcohol and for the industrial production of alcohols and aldehydes.
Sputter deposition followed by surface treatment was studied using reactive RF plasma as a method for preparing titanium oxide $(TiO_2)$ films on the FTO $(SnO_2: F)$ substrate for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Anatase structure $TiO_2$ films deposited by reactive RF magnetron sputtering under the conditions of $Ar/O_2(5%)$ mixtures, RF power of 600W and substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ were surface-treated by inductive coupled plasma (ICP) with $Ar/O_2$ mixtures at substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$, and thus the films were applied to the DSCs. We have chosen a solar cell width as a variable of a large-scaled DSCs and confirmed electric characteristics of an individual cell. As a result, the higher the internal resistance of DSC becomes, the wider the width gets. Internal resistance makes it difficult to collect photoelectron generated from dye. Ultimately up sizing DSC causes the increase of internal resistance and then has a bad effect on the cell characteristics.

Electrical sintering of the front electrode for crystalline silicon solar cells was performed applying a constant DC current to the printed lines. Conducting lines were printed on glass substrate by a drop-on-demand (DOD) inkjet printer and silver nanoparticle ink. Specific resistance and microstructure of sintered silver lines and were measured with varying DC current. To find the relation between temperature increase with changing applied current and specific resistance, temperature elevation was also calculated. Sintering process finished within a few milliseconds. Increasing applied DC current, specific resistance decreased and grain size increased after sintering. Achieved minimum specific resistance is approximately 1.7 times higher than specific resistance of the bulk silver.

In this study, we fabricate and investigate low-temperature solid oxide fuel cells with a ceramic substrate/porous metal/ceramic/porous metal structure. To realize low-temperature operation in solid oxide fuel cells, the membrane should be fabricated to have a thickness of the order of a few hundreds nanometers to minimize IR loss. Yttrium-doped barium zirconate (BYZ), a proton conductor, was used as the electrolyte. We deposited a 350-nm-thick Pt (anode) layer on a porous substrate by sputter deposition. We also deposited a 1-${\mu}m$-thick BYZ layer on the Pt anode using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Finally, we deposited a 200-nm-thick Pt (cathode) layer on the BYZ electrolyte by sputter deposition. The open circuit voltage (OCV) is 0.806 V, and the maximum power density is 11.9 mW/$cm^2$ at $350^{\circ}C$. Even though a fully dense electrolyte is deposited via PLD, a cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image reveals many voids and defects.
