  • By measuring decrease change of the contact angle after microwave plasma treatment on the glass and Al as a scintillator panel sample substrate, the adhesive performance of scintillator panel can be expected to improve. Also resolution and sensitivity of scintillator panel after microwave plasma treatment can be expected to maintain highly.

  • This paper presents calculated results for the infinite phased arrays of the probe-fed rectagualr microstrip patches. A numerical model that is based on a rigorous Green's function and galerkin solutionsis is described. In an arbitrary scan plane, the input impedance and the input reflection coefficient versus the scand angle are calculated. The effects of substrate parameters on the phased arry antenna are considered. The scan blindness phenomenon due to the surface wave is observed and the input impedance bandwidth in the arbitrary scan plane is calculated.

  • In this paper, we present the fabrication of microlens by electrohydrodynamic atomization(EHDA) of PDMS prepolymer. The diameter and contact angle of PDMS microlens can be altered by changing the applied voltage and substrate temperature at the experimental setup. It is considered that PDMS microlens can be integrated into the Lab-on-a-chip directly without any photolithographic process by EHDA. The property of PDMS microlens is confirmed by transmitting and measuring the Gaussian beam through microlens.

  • We successfully developed new photo-alignment materials which can be treated with linearly polarized UV (LPUV) light in near UV region. The alignment films were also shown to provide with surface anchoring as strong as that on rubbed polyimide when exposed to the LPUV light with warming up the substrate. It can be also able to control pretilt angle by introduction of alkyl side chain.

  • On the half area of a pixel, pretilt angle was decreased by UV radiation and two domain TN was induced by the pretilt difference. In this structure, ITO slit was made inside pixel electrode on the TFT substrate to stabilize domain boundaries. The result shows that this structure is more resistant to outside stress and unwanted domain deformation is prevented.

  • The light extraction efficiencies of GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) grown on differently patterned sapphire substrates were investigated by using the ray tracing method. It was found that angle of the pattern surface against the sapphire surface, the number of pattern per unit area were important structural factors for high extraction efficiency.

  • The wetting properties of an uncured epoxy resin on both clean and oiled, galvanised steel have been studied. Since the polymer is very viscous at ambient temperature, and also with an aim to simulate industrial conditions, the spreading of drops of resin during a heating cycle (temperature increase at $10^{\circ}C/min$) was recorded and analysed. On clean steel, a contact angle, ${\theta}$, vs time, t, plot shows sigmoidal behaviour, whereas on the oiled substrate, spreading almost ceases in an intermediate stage. This strange behaviour is attributed to significant oil absorption by the polymer.

  • Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) treatment with argon and a mixture of argon and oxygen gases has been used to modify the surface of polycarbonate (PC) substrates. The results showed that the surface contact angle was inversely proportional to the plasma discharge power and that the mixed-gas plasma (gas flow 10:10 sccm, discharge power 60 W) decreased the surface contact angle as low as $18.3^{\circ}$, indicating a large increase in the surface hydrophilicity. In addition, $SnO_2$ thin films deposited on the PC substrate effectively enhanced the ICP plasma treatment, and could also enhance the usefulness of PC in the inner parts of automobiles.

  • The Patterned vertical alignment (PVA) mode has many advantages such as perfect dark state at the normal direction and wide viewing angle. However, PVA mode needs additional process to pattern electrodes of both substrates and complicated assembly process. Moreover, this mode shows slow response time. To overcome these problems, we use plane shape ITO on top substrate instead of patterned electrode and form proper tilt angle of LC director on the surface while maintaining these original merits. Consequently, we achieve fast response time and improve transmittance.

  • This paper investigated the wetting and adhesion property of undulated DLC film with surface morphology controlled for a reduced real area of contact. The undulated DLC Films were prepared by 13.56 MHZ radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (r.f. PECVD) by using nanoscale Cu dots surface on a Si (100) substrate. FE-SEM, AFM analysis showed that the after repeated deposition and plasma induced damage with Ar ions, the surface was nanoscale undulated. This phenomenon changed the surface morphology of DLC surface. Raman spectra of film with changed morphology revealed that the plasma induced damage with Ar ions significantly suppressed the graphitization of DLC structure. Also, it was observed that while the untreated flat DLC surfaces had wetting angle starting ranged from $72^{\circ}$ and adhesion force of 333ni. Had wetting angle the undulated DLC surfaces, which resemble the surface morphology of a cylindrical shape, increased up to $104^{\circ}$ and adhesion force decreased down to 11 nN. The measurements agree with Hertz and JKR models. The surface undulation was affected mainly by several factors: the surface morphology affinity to cylindrical shape, reduction of the real area of contact and air pockets trapped in cylindrical asperities of the surface.
