  • Nucleotide and amino acid substitution pattern in vif gene of the Korean clade of HIV-1 isolated from Koreans were analyzed using consensus sequences. At nucleotide level, transition/transversion substitution ratio was 1.88, and nonsynonymous/synonymous substitution ratio was 2.67, suggesting a divergent evolution in the Korean clade. At amino acid level, there were 17 substitutions and $G{\rightarrow}E$ substitution at position 37 may be responsible for change in predicted secondary structure.

  • The genetic of a recently described virus, hepatitis G virus(HGV) was investigated. HGV envelope 1 (E1) nucleotide sequences isolated from six Korean hepatitis b virus-positive patients by using a reverse transcription-poly-merase chain reaction procedure, were analysed and compared to the seven previously reported HGV isolates. Sequence homology among the Korean isolates was 88-97% whereas among the isolates from different geographic areas was 80-92%, indicating geographical divergence of HGV. Nucleotide substitutions spread uniformly throughiut the E1 fragment. Furthermore, compared to the prototype HGV sequence, frameshift mutations were observed in most of the Korean isolating that a different translating initiation site for the polyprotein exists in the Korean type HGV.

  • This paper examines how L2 speech production varies according to learner's L2 proficiency level. L2 speech production variations are analyzed by quantitative measures at word and phone levels using Korean learners' English corpus. Word-level variations are analyzed using correctness to explain how speech realizations are different from the canonical forms, while accuracy is used for analysis at phone level to reflect phone insertions and deletions together with substitutions. The results show that speech production of learners with different L2 proficiency levels are considerably different in terms of performance and individual realizations at word and phone levels. These results confirm that speech production of non-native speakers varies according to their L2 proficiency levels, even though they share the same L1 background. Furthermore, they will contribute to improve non-native speech recognition performance of ASR-based English language educational system for Korean learners of English.

  • $MgTiO_3{\cdot}CaTiO_3{\cdot}SrTiO_3$ system ceramics (MCST) were synthesized to study the effect of Ca addition amount and Sr substitution on temperature coefficient of resonance sequency. Temperature coefficient of resonance frequency was slightly increased by small amount ($i.e.{\sim}5%$) of Sr substitution. In case of 50% to 75% addition amount of $MgTiO_3$, decrease of quality factor was not observed with increasing dielectric constant.

  • Three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) models were developed for 67 molecules of 2-amino-benzothiazole-6-anilide derivatives against lymphocyte-specific protein tyrosine kinase (P56 LCK). The molecular field analysis (MFA) and receptor surface analysis (RSA) were employed for QSAR studies and the predictive ability of the model was validated by 15 test set molecules. Structure-based investigations using molecular docking simulation were performed with the crystal structure of P56 LCK. Good correlation between predicted fitness scores versus observed activities was demonstrated. The results suggested that the nature of substitutions at the 2-amino and 6-anilide positions were crucial in enhancing the activity, thereby providing new guidelines for the design of novel P56 LCK inhibitors.

  • It's very important to control their buying impulse for consumers surrounding in the very aggressive marketing strategies and materialistic socio-economic system. This study was to explore consumer's strategies to resist their buying impulses. The results from content analysis of interview data show various strategies and very similar to the self-control strategies of literature. The pre-stage strategies to resist buying impose were avoidances marketing strategies, pre-commitments, searching informations and bringing shopping lists and etc. The post-stage strategies were suspicions about marketing messages, considerations of negative outcomes, postponements, economic cost assessments, substitutions and etc. Developments and assessments of education programs to enhance consumer's self-control were needed.

  • The experimental particle samples included ($Mn_{0.1}Fe_{0.9}$)O-$Fe_2O_3$ and FeO-($Gd_{0.1}Fe_{0.9}$)$_2O_3$ with $Mn^{2+}\;and\;Gd^{3+}$ substitutions in inverse spinel $Fe_3O_4$. A lecithin surfactant was adsorbed onto the magnetic particles by ultrasonication. The samples prepared showed excellent dispersibility at the mean size of 13 nm; their saturation magnetization values were 63 emu/g for the bare and Mn-substituted magnetites, and 56 emu/g for the Gd-substituted magnetite. The crystal structure of the substituted magnetites was very similar to that of the bare magnetite, due to a small amount of 0.1 mole fraction substituted in synthesizing the magnetite. The magnetite fluids, according to T2-weighted MR images, effectively diminished the signal intensity in the liver and spleen of Sprague-Dawley rats.

  • Dynamic kinetic resolution of $\alpha$-bromo carboxylic acid derivatives in nucleophilic substitution with chiral $\alpha$-amino ester nucleophiles in the presence of TBAI and DIEA has been investigated for stereoselective syntheses of 1,1'-iminodicarboxylic acid derivatives. Nucleophilic substitutions with various chiral $\alpha$-amino esters gave iminodiacetates 2-8 with stereoselectivities up to 87 : 13 dr. Also, the reactions of N-($\alpha$-bromo-$\alpha$-phenylacetyl)-L-alanine methyl ester with L-alanine, D-alanine and glycine methyl ester nucleophiles afforded N-carboxyalkyl dipeptide analogues 10-12 up to 90 : 10 dr.

  • Miro propulsion device is a literally very small propulsion system The reason why such a small propulsion system is required is that micro satellites are considered as substitutions for conventional satellites to reduce cost; the fabrication of micro satellites enables us to produce mass production Microrockets have relatively high values of thrust/weight ratio due to the cube law; weight is proportional to volume and thrust is proportional to area. Accordingly, downsizing makes the ratio of thrust/weight ratio high However, conventionally ignorable facts are not negligible any more in small scale systems. for chemical micro rockets, downsizing causes lots of heat loss as surface to volume ratio increases, which results in the destruction of radical ions. For thrusters using plasma, the generation of strong magnetic field for plasma is very difficult. Also, in the aspect of flow dynamics, the effects of drag and viscosity are important parameters in low Re flows. When these problems are solved, micro propulsion systems can be commercialized and result in spin-off effects in many fields.

  • This paper derived a theoretical method to estimate structural characteristics of carbody members when material substitution designs were performed, and verified the theoretical method with finite element analyses. For important factors in rolling stock design, such as bending stiffness, natural frequency, bending strength and buckling strength, some performance indices to estimate structural behaviors were developed in order to derive an equivalent design in spite of material substitutions. The developed method was used to reduce the weights of carbody components, as example problems, by substituting the aluminium alloy for the structural steel. The analysis results of the examples show that the proposed technique gives a reasonable initial guess in the case of a material substitution design.
