경제성 측면에서의 가스하이드레이트 개발 가치 (The Economic Aspect of Gas Hydrate Development)

  • The price of natural gas import continues to rise, as well as its domestic consumption rate. This research examined the economic feasibility of domestically developing and producing gas hydrate to substitute imported natural gas. Today, the technology to commercially produce gas hydrate is still lacking; however, if the gas hydrate is able to be commercially produced domestically and replace imported natural gas, the annual economic benefit for the Republic of Korea would be 211 - 833 USD/ton. From the industry's point of view, gas hydrate is a high value investment since one can expect an annual profit of over 150USD/ton. The commercial value of gas hydrate development will increase as long as the natural gas market continues to expand and as the increase of natural gas consumption remains steady. With further development of technology, one can anticipate an even higher expected return on the investment.

  • Using the CNG(compressed natural gas) and LPG(liquified petroleum gas) as the automotive fuel will be expanded because of their clean effect to the environmental air qualify. But these programs of gas using expansion would have a difficulty due to public consideration of gas utilities as a big hazard. The Ministry of Environment has an ambitious plan to substitute more than 25,000 buses with CNG and ensure more than 200 CNG refueling stations as well by the year of 2007. However, it is very difficult to establish new CNG and LPG refueling stations because of expanded safety distance than ever before by several major explosion accidents.

  • In order to study the gas interchangeability, a series of tests and analysis were conducted regarding to natural gas and gas mixture. Natural gas was selected as a reference and NG-LPG/Air mixture as a substitute gas. The major interest was placed on the determination of interchangeability limits for different mixing conditions. The parameters of Wobbe Index and Combustion Potential were employed in estimating the gas interchangeability, The limits obtained by analysis(AGA, WEAVER, KNOY, GILB) were compared with experimental results. The results estimated showed that the mixing limits of LPG/Air in proper conditions were found to vary with analysis and AGA is considered to be the most appropriate one.

  • The diversification of import districts of natural gas is trying to prepare an increase in the demand and price. The interchangeability of natural gases should be examined prior to supply to gas appliances, although compositional differences among natural gases are not large. The object of this study is to investigate numerically the thermodynamic and transport properties as well as information on combustion of 6 natural gases. Comparing the properties of BOG1 with those of standard gas, the maximum differences of heating value, Wobbe index, air-fuel ratio, and specific heat are 10%, 4%, 10% and 5.54%, respectively. That is, the BOG1 is required careful application. However, all gases except for BOG1 show the similar properties with standard gas. Finally, the combustion information such as flame temperature and burning velocity are examined. These results will provide the useful information related to the interchangeability of various natural gases in practical combustion appliances.

대체천연가스 화염 이미지 역변환에서 전처리 효과 (Effect of a Preprocessing Method on Inverting Chemiluminescence Images of Flames Burning Substitute Natural Gas)

  • A preprocessing scheme utilizing multi-division of the ROI (region of interest) in a chemiluminescence image during inversion is proposed. The resulting inverted image shows the flame's structure, which can be useful for studying combustion instability. The flame structure is often quantitatively visualized with PLIF (planar laser-induced fluorescence) images as well. The chemiluminescence image, which is a line-integral of the flame, needs to be preprocessed before inversion, mainly due to the inherent noise and the assumption of axisymmetry during the inversion. The feasibility of the multi-division preprocessing technique has been tested with experimentally-obtained OH PLIF and $OH^*$ chemiluminescence images of jet and swirl-stabilized flames burning substitute natural gas (SNG). It turns out that the technique outperforms two conventional methods, specifically, the technique without preprocessing and the one with uni-division, reconstructing the SNG flame structures much better than its two counterparts when compared using corresponding OH PLIF images. The characteristics of the optimum degree of polynomials to be applied for curve-fitting of the flame region data for the multi-division method involving two flames has also been investigated.

석탄, 석탄 촤, 바이오매스 등의 고체시료 가스화 반응을 통해 발생된 합성가스를 이용한 SNG 제조공정 연구 (SNG Production Process Study in the gasification system with various feedstock)

  • 본 연구에서는 가스화공정과 수성가스 전환공정, $CO_2$ 분리공정, 메탄화 공정을 주요 구성으로 한 대체(또는 합성)천연가스(SNG, Substitute or Synthetic Natural Gas)제조공정을 대상으로 석탄, 석탄 촤, 바이오매스 등의 다양한 고체시료를 적용하였을 경우 각 시료의 가스화 반응을 통해 얻어진 합성가스를 이용한 SNG 제조 공정 특성을 파악하고자 하였다. 석탄, 석탄 촤, 바이오매스를 적용한 SNG 공정해석 결과 가스화 공정, 수성가스 전환 공정, 메탄화 공정의 운전 용도가 각 800도, 450도, 300도이고, 수성가스 전환 공정 출구의 합성가스 $H_2$/CO ratio(mol basis)가 3인 조건에서 SNG/Feed ratio는 석탄, 석탄 촤, 바이오매스가 각각 0.35, 0.34, 0.08로 나타났고. SNG Efficiency(%) 는석탄, 석탄 촤 바이오매스에 대해서 각각 61.2%. 48.2%, 17.5%로 나타났다. 또한, 석탄 촤를 대상으로 가스화 공정에서의 산화제 투입 조건 및 스팀 투입조건의 변화에 따른 합성가스 발생 특성을 살펴보았다.

  • Natural gas is considered to be on e of the most promising candidates for a clean substitute fuel and a great amount of research on the compressed natural gas(CNG) fueled vehicle has been performed. In this s tudy, we try to understand the property of CNG fuel with using CNG engine experiment. In order to present the direction and application of CNG, we experiment with various operating conditions that is, spark timing, A/F ratio, air quantity and fuel quantity, etc. 11,967 cc engine was used in the experiment and the engine fuel ratio was determined in the way that the performance of dedicated CNG engine is corresponded to that of existing diesel engine. The performance and dedicated CNG engine were measured by changing the fuel injection timing. The dedicated CNG engine was proved to be good in describing the experimental results and according to the actual road test, acceleration and constant speed driving for dedicated CNG engine was better than existing diesel engine.

석탄 SNG 생산설비의 수성가스전환 공정 분석 (Review on the water-gas shift process for a coal SNG project)

  • Coal gasification is considered as one of the most prospective technologies in energy field since it can be utilized for various products such as electricity, SNG (Synthetic Natural Gas or Substitute Natural Gas) and other chemical products. Among those products from coal gasification, SNG is emerging as a very lucrative product due to the rising prices of oil and natural gas, especially in Asian countries. The process of SNG production is very similar to the conventional IGCC in that the overall process is highly dependent on the type of gasifier and coal rank. However, there are some differences between SNG production and IGCC, which is that SNG plant requires higher oxygen purity from oxygen plant and more complex gas cleanup processes including water-gas shift reaction and methanation. Water-gas shift reaction is one of the main process in SNG plant because it is a starting point for the latter gas cleanup processes. For the methanation process, syngas is required to have a composition of $H_2$/CO = 3. This study reviewed various considerations for water-gas shift process in a conceptual design on an early stage like a feasibility study for a real project. The factors that affect the design parameters of water-gas shift reaction include the coal properties, the type of gasifier, the overall thermal efficiency of the plant and so on. Water-gas shift reaction is a relatively proven technology compared to the other processes in SNG plant so that it can reduce technological variability when designing a SNG project.
