  • The electricity supply industry for which high stability and quality of power are the primary aim of power company and the first order of business target. As the facilities of generations, transmissions and substations are increased every year, power system becomes more complex and hard to control. The complexity of the power system causes harmful influence on its security and power facilities. Moreover, difficulty of predicting weather condition in these days with its complexity increases the level of uncertainty of energy demand. Wide area online monitoring of power system offers lots of informations and solutions which clear the causes of insecurity in power system. In this paper, we presents the development of synchrophasor data measurement and transmission system using satellite network for power system online monitoring.

  • Recently, researches on the intelligence of electric power facilities have been trying to apply artificial intelligence techniques as computer platforms have improved. In particular, faults occurring in substation should be able to quickly identify possible faults and minimize power fault recovery time. This paper presents fault location technique for 154kV substation using neural network. We constructed a training matrix based on the operating conditions of the circuit breaker and IED to identify the fault location of each component of the target 154kV substation, such as line, bus, and transformer. After performing the training to identify the fault location by the neural network using Weka software, the performance of fault location discrimination of the designed neural network was confirmed.

  • Topology processing is indispensable basic function as it generate a real-time BUS-BRANCH model in Energy Management Systems because most application softwares such as state estimation, power flow, etc., require BUS-BRANCH circuit data. This paper propose an expert system to generate BUS-BRANCH circuit model using Artificial Intelligence technology and it is applied to 154kV distribution substations.

  • This paper shows characteristics of fault current division factor $S_f$, which is a ratio of earth- return current to total fault current, at a substation fed exclusively by power cables under unsymmetrical fault condition, such as single line-to-ground fault. In substation grounding system design, $S_f$ is a very important factor determining GPR, touch and step voltage at a substation under fault condition. In case of substations fed by overhead lines, 40-60% of $S_f$ has been typically used, although it is a very conservative value with no other network conditions considered. It is authors' hope that $S_f$ presented in this paper could hopefully be a basic reference in designing of substation grounding system, especially for a substation fed exclusively by power cables.

  • We have performed an EMTDC simulation for the current limiting effects of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for the 154 kV transmission line between the Gaepo and Sungnam substations. The simulation showed that a line-to-line fault increases the fault current up to 54 kA. The SFCL with $100{\Omega}$ impedance after quench limited the current to 15 kA within a half cycle. This limited current is well below the upper limit of a circuit breaker, suggesting that the impedance of the SFCL in the transmission line is sufficient.

  • Reviewing the capacity and timing of Southwest sea offshore wind farms, additional farms developing, and potential farms, we devised the long-term plan of domestic offshore wind farms development. In order to rank many wind farms, we determined evaluation indicators and weights of priority. We applied economic and preliminary factors such as wind grade, depth of water, distance from substations, farms scale, MOU signed, and feasibility studies. After deciding the ranking of wind farms by the scores, we planed domestic long-term scenarios of offshore wind farms development to meet national energy policy objectives.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the direct and indirect nursing care hours with establishment of nurse substations and compare the experimental nursing units with the existing nursing units For this study, two experimental nursing units: (1) a medical nursing unit and (2) a surgical nursing unit with a nurse substation were selected. And two control nursing units : (1) a medical nursing unit and (2) a surgical nursing unit without a nurse substation were selected. After a three-month experimental operation from June 1 to August 31,1996, research data were collected for three days from September 2 to 4, 1996. We investigated the effects of the direct & indirect nursing care hours with establishment of the nurse substations (improved nursing environment) without adding the staff nurses. The effect of establishment of the nurse sub-station was measured for the differences direct & indirect nursing care hours between experimental and control nursing units. An investigator measured the time for a staff nurse to practice each nursing activity and recorded it every minute. Percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA were used for data analysis. The results are as follows: 1. There was no significant difference between the experimental and control nursing units in staffs' working hours during their shift. 2. There were significant diffferences between the experimental and control nursing units in dierct nursing care hours (t=0.0288, p=0.0001) and indirect nursing care hours (t=0.3886, p=0.0103) per patient. 3. There was significant difference between the experimental and control nursing units in direct nursing care hours done by nurses(t=0.0012, p=0.0111) and aids(t=0.3011, p=0.0027). There was significant difference between the experimental and control nursing units in indirect nursing care hours done by head-nurses(t=0.0051, p=0.0253), nurses(t=0.0071, p=0.0024) and aids (t=0.3227, p=0.0351). There was significant difference between the experimental and control nursing units in indirect nursing care hours done by nurses(t=0.0005, p=0.0015) and aids(t=0.2400, p=0.0013) per patient. There was significant difference between the experimental and control nursing units in indirect nursing care hours done by head-nurses(t=0.0005, p=0.0379) and nurses (t=0.0035, p=0.0198) per patient. 4. Thre were significant differences between the experimental and control nursing units in direct nursing care hours (t=0.1134, p=0.0010) and indirect nursing care hours (t=0.7106, p=0.0008) per staff during the day shift. There were significant differences between the experimental and control nursing units in direct nunsing care hours during the day(t=0.0723, p=0.0003) and evening shift (t=0.0004, p=0.0285) per patient, and indirect nursing care hours during the day shift(t=0.5565, p=0.0036) per patient. 5. There were differences between the experiemental and control nursing units in dircet nursing activities including measurement and observation, medication, communication, teratment, hygiene, and nutrition, and in indirect nursing activities including confirmantion, communication, record, computer work, management of goods. But it was not statistically proven. 6. There was difference between the experimental and control nursing units in unmet-need nursing care hours per patient, but not statistically proven.

  • In Korean AC power railway substations, SCOTT winding transformers are under operation to have a single phase power supply together with a phase angle of $90^{\circ}$ on the secondary side of the main transformer. In the case of an internal fault of the transformer, the transformer protection relay should be cut off on the primary side, the transformer should be inoperative to the external fault of the transformer or to the normal train operation. Reducing the malfunction of the relay through an exact fault determination is very important for securing a stable power system and improving its reliability. The main transformers are protected using Buchholtz's relay and a differential relay as the internal fault detection devices, but there are some cases of the main transformer operation under the deactivation of this protection function due to a malfunction of the differential relay. In this paper, the characteristics of the SCOTT transformer and differential relay as well as the malfunctioning of the protection relays are presented. The modeling of the SCOTT transformer protection relay was accomplished by the power system analysis program and the Comtrade file from 'A substation', which was used as the input data for the fault wave, and the harmonics were analyzed to determine if the relay operates or not. In addition, an improvement plan for malfunctioning cases through wave form analysis is suggested.
