  • Two typical impact loadings, shock wave and gas bubble pulse, due to UNDEX(UNDerwater EXplosion), should be considered together for the closest response analysis of structure subjected to UNDEX to a reality. Since these two impact loadings have different response time bands, however, their response characteristics of structure are different from each other. It is impossible to consider these effectively under the current computational environment and the mathematical model has not yet been developed. Whereas Hicks model approximates the fluid-structure interaction due to gas bubble pulse as virtual mass effect, treating the flow by the response of gas bubble after shock wave as incompressible ideal fluid contrary to the compressible flow due to shock wave, Geers-Hunter model could make the closest response analysis of structure under UNDEX to a real one as a mathematical model considering the fluid-structure interaction due to shock wave and gas bubble pulse together using acoustic wave theory and DAA(Doubly Asymptotic Approximation). In this study, the application and effectiveness of integrated dynamic response analysis of submerged structure was examined with the analysis of the shock wave and gas bubble pulse together.

  • This study evaluated the stability and deformation subsea foundation after implementation of the contaminant isolation method by covering the contaminated materials using Zeolite and sands under subsea condition. The appropriate contaminant adsorption materials used in this study was selected as Zeolite based on the existing research results due to its efficiency. Safety (or stability) was evaluated by calculation and to analyze deformation after completing the contaminant isolation method. The minimum safety factors from slope stability analyses results were 30.1 and 11.2 depending on subsea submerged conditions and the amount of the maximum primary consolidation settlement from consolidation analysis results was 209.2 mm. In addition, change of consolidation amount with increasing consolidation time was evaluated based on consolidation degree.

  • As an environmental pollution and global warming due to an excessive carbon emission are intensified, the importance of renewable energy is in rise today. TCP (Tidal Current Power), one of the renewable energy sources, generates electricity by converting kinetic energy of current into rotational energy of turbine. Also the TCP has a great advantages of predictability and reliability. Because the generating power is proportional to cubic of stream velocity, amplifying current speed by applying duct is highly effective to increase the generating power. SPM (Single Point Mooring) can be applied for the weather vane with various current direction and also augments generating power of the system. In addition, simple installation and retrieval could be a merit of SPM system. By combining duct and SPM, TCP system for relatively low-speed-current and shallow water region can be feasible and economical. In this study, single point moored duct-type TCP system was designed and the motion of submerged structure was investigated in both numerical and experimental method. DNV wadam V4.8-1 and OrcaFlex 10.0a were used for the frequency and time domain motion analysis of system respectively. Duct model scaled by 0.05 of Froude conformity ratio and CWC (Circulate Water Channel) are used for experiment.

  • Recently, galvanizing method is predominantly being used not only a economical point of view but also due to it s stability and long life. For example, guard rail of high way, all kinds of structures for ship etc. were protected with galvanizing and demand of galvanized structural materials was being increased with more and more. However, galvanized structures were inevitably being deteriorated with time eventually because they were corroded with solution of galvanizing film and exfoliation of it s film in the present severe corrosive environment. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the corrosion resistance of the galvanizing film through various methods such as variation of chemical composition of galvanizing bath, chromate treatment and coating treatment. In this study, three test specimens such as pure galvanizing, galvarium, and chromate treatment were submerged at tap water with inhibitor addition. And the effect of their corrosion resistance improvement was comparatively investigated with electrochemical method. Corrosion current density of the galvanized steel was the largest among three specimens, however, the galvarium steel showed the lowest corrosion current density. Futhermore, these three kinds of test specimens indicated considerably excellent corrosion resistance by dipped at tap water with inhibitor addition. Especially, the galvanized steel showed the best effect of corrosion resistance improvement than other test specimens.

  • Total phosphorous removal rate was examined of a subsurface-flow treatment wetland system which was constructed on floodplain in the down reach of the Kwangju Stream in Korea from May to June 2001. Its dimensions were 29 meter in length, 9 meter in width and 0.65 meter in depth. A bottom layer of 45 cm in depth was filled with crushed granite with about 15~30 mm in diameter and a middle layer of 10 cm in depth had pea pebbles with about 10 mm in diameter. An upper layer of 5 cm in depth contained course sand. Reeds(Phragmites australis) were transplanted on the surface of the system. They were dug out of natural wetlands and stems were cut at about 40 cm height from their bottom ends. Water of the Kwangju Stream flowed from a submerged dam into it via a pipe by gravity flow and treated effluent was funneled back into the Stream. The number of reed stems increased from 80 stems/$m^2$ in July 2001 to 136 stems/$m^2$ in September 2001. The hight of stems was 44.2 cm in July 2001 and 75.3 cm in September 2001. The establishment of reeds at early operating stage of the system was good. Volume and water quality of inflow and outflow were investigated from July 2001 through December 2001. The average inflow was 40 $m^3$/day and hydraulic detention time was about 1.5 days. The concentration of total phosphorous n influent and effluent was 0.83 and 0.33 mg/L, respectively. The removal rate of total phosphorous averaged about 60%. The removal efficiency was slightly higher, compared with that of subsurface-flow wetlands operating in North America, whose retention rate of total phosphorous was reported to be about 56%. The good abatement rate could be attributed to sedimentation of particle phosphorous in pores of the media and adsorption of phosphorous to the biofilm developed on the surface of them. Increase of standing density of reeds within a few years will develop root zones which may lead to increment in the phosphorous retention rate.

  • In order to assess the effects of ecosystem and landscape in around spur dikes, this study had carried out monitoring on the changes of ecosystem and morphologic characteristics in around spur dikes that had been settled in bend of Youngcheon River. The study site was a short reach with length 190m, spur dikes were installed in March, 2008. Monitoring of the site had been started in May 2008 and had been completed September 2011. The results are as follow ; 1) Spur dikes that were installed for channel stabilization are performing effectively hydraulic functions at flooding time. 2) Spur dikes that were installed in water colliding front of river bend brought about sediment deposition between those and formed pools around front of those. Therefore, it was verified to create various physical characteristics in the aspect of channel topography and flow consequently. 3) The survey results that was carried out in October 2008 showed to emerge 25 species of plant, 9 species of fish and 17 species of benthic macroinvertebrates, but the survey results in October 2010 showed to emerge 74 species of plant, 12 species of fish and 19 species of benthic macroinvertebrates. In particular, plant species that emerged in 2011 increased about three times more than those in 2008.

  • Presently many constructions establish in underwater, but approaching to underwater constructions are difficult, for comparing with ground, underwater environment is different in media. Usually measurement methods for underwater constructions are using tapes, using depth gauges, using acoustic positioning systems. But, tapes are hard to measure the correct distance, for applying a right tension is not easy in underwater. Depth gauges have a weakness in settling, for it takes long time to do it. Acoustic positioning systems don't work well in confined spaces and cost a lot. Hence, the purpose of this study is, at first, to understand rays path in multimedia like water, glass and air. The second thing is to perform a camera calibration at the field to compare with the interior orientation parameter. And the third thing is to find out whether photogrammetry is applied for underwater object in using cube for accuracy examination. The last thing is to perform underwater photogrammetry about underwater object, which is pier model and riverbed. We came to the conclusion through this experiment that the applying underwater photogrammerty for underwater constructions and underwater ground is possible.

  • Recently increased rainfall by abnormal climate, risen peak runoff by urbanization, and shorten time of concentration are causing frequent overflow at downstream basin. This problem will be solved through the runoff reduction facilities like detention pond. However so far, most studies about detention pond in Korea are focused on its capacity. A study with respect to outlet facilities of detention pond was insignificant. Design of culvert usually used for outlet facilities of detention pond is generally carried out by using "Road Drainage Design" of Korea Expressway Corporation (1991). So detention pond is unreasonable to apply it. In this study, the culvert flow in submerged condition of upstream at culvert was analyzed., and simplified design procedure for culvert outlet facilities were presented for detention pond.

  • To develop gasoline engine fuel pump, it is needed to measure the rotational speed of the pump. In general, because gasoline fuel pump is submerged in the fuel tank, it is difficult to measure the rotational speed directly. Currently, there are two popular methods measuring the rotational speed. One of them is using a piezoelectric accelerometer, and the other is using a current sensor. Originally, a piezoelectric accelerometer had been applied to measure the frequency of the motor vibration. A current sensor is measuring current frequency of the commutator slot. In this study, both the piezoelectric accelerometer and the current sensor have been applied on the fuel pump to calculate the rotational speed at the same time. As a result, the current sensor delivered highly accurate rotational speed information compared with that of the piezoelectric accelerometer. Especially, low rotational speed region, the current sensor shows very robust measuring characteristics. To measure the rotational speed within 1% error, the piezoelectric accelerometer needs to be set with less then 0.5Hz datum storage interval, and the current sensor needs to be set with less then 2.0Hz datum storage interval.
