접면포착법에 의한 수중익 주위의 이층류 유동계산 (Computation of Two-Fluid Flows with Submerged hydrofoil by Interface Capturing Method)

  • Numerical analysis of two-fluid flows for both water and air is carried out. Free-Surface flows with an arbitrary deformation have been simulated around two dimensional submerged hydrofoil. The computation is performed using a finite volume method with unstructured meshes and an interface capturing scheme to determine the shape of the free surface. The method uses control volumes with an arbitrary number of faces and allows cell-wise local mesh refinement. the integration in space is of second order based on midpoint rule integration and linear interpolation. The method is fully implicit and uses quadratic interpolation in time through three time levels The linear equation systems are solved by conjugate gradient type solvers and the non-linearity of equations is accounted for through picard iterations. The solution method is of pressure-correction type and solves sequentially the linearized momentum equations the continuity equation the conservation equation of one species and the equations or two turbulence quantities.

Computation of Water and Air Flow with Submerged Hydrofoil by Interface Capturing Method

  • Free-surface flows with an arbitrary deformation, induced by a submerged hydrofoil, are simulated numerically, considering two-fluid flows of both water and air. The computation is performed by a finite volume method using unstructured meshes and an interface capturing scheme to determine the shape of the free surface. The method uses control volumes with an arbitrary number of faces and allows cell wise local mesh refinement. The integration in space is of second order, based on midpoint rule integration and linear interpolation. The method is fully implicit and uses quadratic interpolation in time through three time levels. The linear equations are solved by conjugate gradient type solvers, and the non-linearity of equations is accounted for through Picard iterations. Modified adaptive complementary sliding mode control for the longitudinal motion stabilization of the fully-submerged hydrofoil craft

  • This paper presents a Modified Adaptive Complementary Sliding Mode Control (MACSMC) system for the longitudinal motion control of the Fully-Submerged Hydrofoil Craft (FSHC) in the presence of time varying disturbance and uncertain perturbations. The nonlinear disturbance observer is designed with less conservatism that only boundedness of the derivative of the disturbance is required. Then, a complementary sliding mode control system combined with adaptive law is designed to reduce the bound of stabilization error with fast convergence. In particularly, the modified complementary sliding mode surface which contains the estimation of the disturbance can reduce the switching gain and retain the normal performance of the system. Moreover, a hyperbolic tangent function contained in the control law is utilized to attenuate the chattering of the actuator. The global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is demonstrated utilizing the Lyapunov stability theory. Ultimately, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Performance of a hydrofoil operating close to a free surface over a range of angles of attack

  • Performance of a NACA 634-021 hydrofoil in motion under and in close proximity of a free surface for a large range of angles of attack is studied. Lift and drag coefficients of the hydrofoil at different submergence depths are investigated both numerically and experimentally, for 0° ≤ AoA ≤ 30° at a Reynolds number of 105. The results of the numerical study are in good agreement with the experimental results. The agreement confirms the new finding that for a submerged hydrofoil operating at high angles of attack close to a free surface, the interaction between the hydrofoil-motion induced waves on the free surface and the hydrofoil results in mitigation of the flow separation characteristics on the suction side of the foil and delay in stall, and improvement in hydrofoil performance. In comparing with a baseline case, results suggest a 55% increase in maximum lift coefficient and 90% average improvement in performance for, based on the lift-to-drag ratio, but it is also observed significant decrease of lift-to-drag ratio at lower angles of attack. Flow details obtained from combined finite volume and volume of fluid numerical methods provide insight into the underlying enhancement mechanism, involving interaction between the hydrofoil and the free surface.

고속선 운항 안정성을 위한 수중익 배치 및 종모멘트 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Hydrofoil Arrangement and Longitudinal Moment Characteristics for Navigation Safety of High Speed Craft)

  • 본 연구에서는 수중익 배치와 종모멘트 특성이 전몰형 수중익선의 종방향 운동 안정성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 Tandem 수중익 모형의 시험을 통하여 고찰한다. 먼저, Canard 날개배치를 가지는 Tandem 수중익 모형을 제작하고 수중익의 양력 및 항력 계측 실험을 수행하여 양력 및 항력 특성을 평가하였다. 또한 종방향 운동의 초기 안정성과 자기 안정성을 가지는 Tandem 수중익 모형의 날개 배치를 결정하였다. Tandem 수중익 모형의 종안정성 시험에서는 선수 및 선미 수중익의 종방향 간격 변화와 종모멘트의 자기안정성 변화에 따른 Pitch 및 Heave 운동 특성, 익주 상태의 종안정성을 평가하였다. 먼저, Canard 날개배치를 가지는 Tandem 수중익 모형을 제작하고 수중익의 양력 및 항력 계측 실험을 수행하여 양력 및 항력 특성을 평가하였다. 또한 종방향 운동의 초기 안정성과 자기 안정성을 가지는 Tandem 수중익 모형의 날개 배치를 결정하였다. Tandem 수중익 모형의 종안정성 시험에서는 선수 및 선미 수중익의 종방향 간격 변화와 종모멘트의 자기안정성 변화에 따른 Pitch 및 Heave 운동 특성, 익주 상태의 종안정성을 평가하였다. 실험 수행 결과 본 연구의 주요 결론의 다음과 같다. 종 모멘트 자기 안정성이 클수록 주어진 고정 pitch 각에서 pitch운동에 대한 자기안정성이 높다. 다음 종모멘트 자기 안정성이 클수록, pitch각도 변화에 따른 pitch운동 및 heave운동의 변동 폭이 상대적으로 작으며 종방향 안정성이 우수하다. 마지막으로 종모멘트 자기안정성이 클수록, 수중익 양력이 동일한 경우, Tandem 수중익의 안정적인 익주를 위해서는 충분한 종모멘트의 자기안정성을 확보하는 것이 필수적인 것을 시험을 통하여 확인하였다.

몰수심도가 작은 고속 수중익 주위의 유동장에 대한 수치계산 (Numerical Study on Flow Field around High Speed Hydrofoil with Shallow Submergence)

  • In order to better understand the characteristics of the flow field around the submerged hydrofoil of finite span with high speed and shallow submergence. a numerical code which can solve the flow around a fast lifting body under the free surface was developed and used to obtain various interesting features of the flow. The code was based on the panel method of Hess( 1972), and the free surface condition was linearized to conform with the assumption of the high Froude number. It is shown that the effect of the change of submerged depth. angle of attack and aspect ratio upon the sectional lift coefficient is rather significant for the case of the chosen example wing, which has the rectangular planform. Since Lee(2002)'s theoretical results were for the wing of elliptical planform, the direct comparison of the two results was not possible. It seems that more computational results are in need to compare the theoretical and the numerical prediction in detail.

자유수면 아래서 전진하는 수중익 주위의 점성유동 해석 (A Numerical Calculation of Viscous Flow around a Hydrofoil Advancing beneath the Free Surface)

  • 본 연구에서는 자유수면 아래서 일정한 속도로 전진하는 수중익에 의한 유동현상을 수치적으로 계산하였다. 수치계산은 MAC(Marker and Cell) 방법에 기초한 Navier-Stokes방정식의 수치해석법을 이용하여 직사각형격자계에서 수행하였으며, 날개와 자유수면 부근에는 계산정도를 높이기 위하여 격자를 집중시켰다. 자유수면 파형 및 수중익 주위의 압력분포와 점성유동현상도 계산하였으며, 수중익의 잠긴 깊이에 따른 파형의 변화와, 쇄파(breaking wave)현상에 대하여서도 수치적으로 해석하였다. 또한, 선형시험수조에서 모형시험을 수행하여 깊이변화에 따른 파형을 계측하였다. 검증을 위하여 수치계산결과들을 이 실험 및 다른 실험결과들과 비교하고 계산정도를 확인하였다.

전파하는 변동유장 중 전진하며 동요하는 2차원 수중 날개에 의한 추력 (Thrust Caused by Oscillating Two-Dimensional Hydrofoil Moving in Propagating Unsteady Flow Field)

  • This paper considers a two-dimensional hydrofoil that is fully submerged and oscillating with forward speed. The flow field is assumed to be a propagating vertical velocity field. Using the perturbation theory, the problem is linearized, and the leading-order lift force is surveyed. The thrust force is analytically derived as the second-order horizontal force. As an example, the lift and thrust for a flapping flat plate in heaving and pitching modes are analyzed. The parameters affecting the thrust are listed. The thrust is expressed in terms of the quadratic transfer functions in relation to the disturbances. The quadratic transfer functions are studied parametrically to assess the most favorable thrust.

수중익에 의한 비선형 조파현상의 수치해석 (Numerical Computations for Hydrofoil-Generated Nonlinear Waves)

  • 본 연구는 정수면으로 부터 얕게 잠겨 항주하는 3차원 수중익에 의한 비선형 조파현상의 특성규명을 위한 기초연구로서 수중익이 예인수조안에서 일정속도로 항주할 때 자유표면에 발생하는 비선형 파형의 특성과 수중익에 작용하는 유체력을 계산하기 위한 수치해법의 개발을 목적으로 하였다. 수치해법으로는 변분원리에 기초한 유한요소법올 사용하였으며 수중익 근처에서는 비선형 자유표면조건을 엄밀하게 만족시켰고 수중익으로 부터 충분히 떨어진 영역에서는 종래의 선형화된 자유표면 경계조건을 만족시켰다. 수치해법의 계산효율을 높이기 위하여 비선형영역과 선형영역 사이에 인위적인 비선형-선형 완충영역을 도입하여 계산영역을 크게 줄였다. 수중익을 간단한 직사각형 보오텍스계로 표현하여 유속과 몰수길이, 보오텍스의 세기 및 분포의 변화에 따른 비선형 파형의 특성을 조사하였으며 특히 자유 보오텍스선이 비선형 파형에 미치는 영향을 파악하였다. 파동에 의하며 수중익에 유기되는 속도성분들의 크기 및 분포, 양력 및 유기항력에 대한 계산을 수행하여 자유표면의 비선형성에 의한 영향을 규명하였다.

수중익형 주변 유동장에서의 공동현상과 유동소음에 대한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Investigation of Cavitation Flow Around Hydrofoil and Its Flow Noise)

  • Underwater cavitation is one of the most important issues because it causes not only vibration and erosion of submerged bodies but also significant flow noise problems. In this paper, flow noise due to cavitation flows around the NACA66 MOD hydrofoil is numerically investigated. The cavitation flow simulation is conducted using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations based on finite difference methods. To capture the cavitation phenomena accurately and effectively, the homogeneous mixture model with the Merkle's cavitation model is applied. The predicted results are compared with available experimental data in terms of pressure coefficients and volume fraction, which confirms the validity of numerical results. Based on flow field analysis results, hydro-acoustic noise field due to the cavitation flow is predicted using the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equation derived from the Lighthill's acoustic analogy. The typical lift dipole propagation patterns are identified.
