The purpose of this study is to identifY the problems and factors which are closely related to the breastfeeding practice in Korea. The subjects are breastfeeding mothers who have participated in the First Healthy Breastfeeding Child Contest. The 50.8% of subjects are resided in Seoul. The 68.3% of subjects are in their twenties and the 50% of them are high school graduates. Also, 81.4% of the subjects have no job. The 50% of subjects consider that the breastfeeding practice is good for the physical development and health of the child. The 73.9% of the subjects believe that the promotion of breastfeeding practice can be achieved through breastfeeding education through mass media. The 50.4% of subjects consider that the appropriate length of breastfeeding and duration is 9 months. Subjects did proper care of their breast and nipples and did proper measures for the breastfeeding practice. The 95.8% of subjects practiced breastfeeding voluntarily and their breastfeeding practice was not inhibited through factors which were given in the questionnaire lists. In conclusion, the practice of breastfeeding is mostly dependent on the efforts and the positive attitude of breastfeeding mothers. Also the friendly breastfeeding environments in terms of social norms and social practice are the most pertinent factors in promotion of breastfeeding practice.
This study was performed to assess diet quality in the postmenopausal women. The data of dietary intakes were obtained using food frequency questionnaires which were collected from 151 postmenopausal women in urban area. We evaluated nutrient intake and diet quality. Diet quality was assessed by NAR(nutrient adequacy ratio), FGIP(food group intake pattern), DDS(dietary diversity score), DVS(dietary variety score), FGS(food group score), DQI(diet quality index). Nutrient intakes of the subjects were close to Korean RDA. Nutrient composition of the diet(in percentage of total energy) was 64% carbohydrate, 15% protein, and 19% protein, and 19% total fat, that was close to 65 : 15 : 20. NAR of most nutrients, except vitamin A, E, were higher than 0.75 and MAR was 0.88. NAR and MAR of the subjects in theis study were higher than those of the subjects of rural area in other studies. The subjects who consumed the five food groups were 60.9%. The mean of DDS was 4.5. The subjects who consumed more than 61 dish items during a month were 61.5%. The mean of DVS was 62.4 and it was significantly higher in the elder age group. 67.6% of the subjects were below FGS of 12. The mean of FGS was 10.6 and few subjects consumed serving numbers of each food groups which were recommended for Koreans. 55.0% of the subjects were DQI scores of 0, 1, and 2. The mean of DQI was 2.3 and few subjects followed the five dietary guidelines for Korean.

In the present study, our aim is to investigate whether responses to the head-up tilt (HUT) on nonlinear properties of heart rate variability (HRV) in young and elderly subjects are different or not. Thirteen young-healthy subjects ($24.5{\pm}3.7$ years) and 18 old-aged healthy subjects ($74.5{\pm}7.4$ years) participated in this study. An electrocardiogram (ECG) in the supine posture, at $0^{\circ}$, and in the standing posture, at $70^{\circ}$ of head-up tilt, was recorded. Detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) and approximate entropy (ApEn), measures of short-/long-term correlation properties and overall complexity of heart rate (HR) respectively, along with spectral components of HR variability (HRV) were analyzed for both the supine and HUT postures. We observed that the short-term fractal exponent ${\alpha}_1$ increased during HUT posture (F(1, 29) = 39.79, P = 0.000), especially, the young subjects showed a significantly higher values compared to the elderly subjects. ApEn significantly decreased (F(1, 29) = 8.61, P = 0.006) during HUT posture. HUT posture decreased the complexity in HR dynamics and increased short-term fractal exponent values in young subjects but not in elderly subjects. These results imply that there are differences of response to HUT on nonlinear properties between young and elderly subjects.
A 4-week energy balance study was conducted to estimate the energy expenditure (EE) of 16 college age men and women, 20 to 26 year of age, by measurement of energy intakes and changes in body energy(BE) content(intake/balance technique), keeping their normal living pattern and maintenance body weight. Energy intake was measured by bomb calorimetry and estimated by food table. Fecal energy loss was calculated from nitrogen excreted. Fat mass was determined from body density estimated from skinfold tickness. 1) Gross energy (GE) intakes calculated from food table was not only 13.4% lower than those of bomb calorimetry but also lower 4 and 5% than metabolizable energy(ME) intakes for the male and female subjects, respectively. 2) Fecal energy loss was 7.2% and 6.9% proportion of the gross energy intake for the male and female subjects, respectively. 3) Mean daily metabolizable energy intakes estimated by subtract fecal and urinary energy loss was 2467kcal for the male subjects and 1897kcal for the female subjects. 4) Total body energy change estimated from body composition change over 31 days was decreased 7672kcal for the male subjects and 2689kcal for the female subjects. 5) Mean daily energy expenditure was 2714kcal (45kcal/kg of body weight) for the male subjects and 1984kcal(40kcal/kg of body weight) for the female subjects. 6) The estimated energy expenditure of college-age subjects in this study provide evidence to support the Recommended Dietary Allowances for energy of Korean normal adult.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the analytic-assembling(faceted analysis) methods applied in enumerative-hierarchical classification schemes. (mainly in KDC) The methods are summarized as follows : 1. For the enumerative-hierarchical classification schemes, in principle the subjects are divided into subdivisions by only one facet at the same level, and step by step. However some subjects, for example 'library and information science' 'education' and others in KDC, are divided into subdivisions by multiple facets at same level like Colon Classification. 2. Most of enumerative-hierarchical classification schemes have various kinds of auxiliary tables, such as standard subdivisions, areas, periods, and languages. Each of them is considered as foci by a facet applied to subdivide all kinds of subjects or some special subjects into lower level. 3. To classify the compound subjects with phase relation, KDC provides ready-made classification numbers or notes that says 'divide by 001-999'(whole subjects) of 'divide by xxx-xxx'(limited scope of subjects). The ready-made compound subjects, or subdividing by whole or limited scope of subjects are similar to representation of phase relation in Colon Classification. Yet these analytic-assembling methods in KDC are needed to be supplemented and amended. Subdividing methods for faceted analysis have to be unified through the whole schedule. The auxiliary tables should be enlarged and subdivided more specifically. And for representation of phase relation, the linking signs can be useful in KDC as well as UDC and other analytic-assembling classification schemes like Colon Classification.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge, attitude and experience of elementary students on smoking. Method: This study is a descriptive survey study by a self reported questionnaires and the subjects of this study were 631 students who are attending elementary schools in Seoul. Results: The results of this study are as followed : 1) 67.9% of subjects have smoking family members, 91.9% of subjects don't have good relation to their parents, 78.6% of subjects have discontented school life and 4.6% of subjects are smoking now. 2) 37.9% of subjects hardly ever experienced education of substance use. There are only 10~17% of subjects have experienced education of substance use among 3~4th grade students. 3) There is highly right answer rate in "relation between pregnant women and fetus(91.6)", "addiction of smoking((85.6%)" and "earlier smoking stronger addiction(72.9%)". 4) The attitude of smoking is mostly negative, and 3.1% of subjects have future smoking plan. 5) The subjects who have smoking parents more have future smoking plan(t=-2.28, p=.02), more positive attitude for smoking(t=-4.42, p=.00). Conclusion: There is needed systematic smoking prevention program for elementary students which fits their knowledge and attitude not later than 3rd. grade, and continual smoking prevention program for adulthood.
Purpose: This study aims to provide suggestions for improving the liberal arts curriculum for the 3-year emergency medical technology course by conducting a comparative research on the liberal arts curricula across 10 colleges. Methods: Various aspects of liberal arts subjects, such as basic directions set out by the curriculum, credit scores, and distribution, were studied. Results: Of the 10 colleges, 9 did not stated purpose of liberal arts education. All 10 offered courses including foreign language, computer, and self-management, however each subjects did not have reflections of course visions. Findings revealed the credit score ratio of liberal arts subjects to be relatively lower than the major subjects. Students had limited opportunity to choose liberal arts subjects, with only a small proportion of the course available for elective subjects. Most liberal arts subjects were completed in the first year. Subjects' experience was not expanded and deepened gradually. Subject choices often overlapped, with limited variety of available subjects. Conclusion: For competent emergency medical technicians, the 3-year emergency medical technology course should improve the quality of its liberal arts offerings. The study of liberal arts provides the opportunity to develop broad perspectives and mature attitudes.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the intake of the health food among the salary men. The subjects consisted of 517 men in Seoul. This study used a constructed questionnaire as instrument tool. The results obtained were summarized as follow : The subjects who consumed lactobacillus were 40.2% and those who consumed drinks of solution type were 32.3%. The subjects who purchase health food by a recommendation from family, relative or acquaintance were 47.3% and those who purchase it by advertisement were 16.9%. The subjects who took the health food for relieving easily fatigue were 36.1% and for the prevention of disease were 25.6%. Most of the subjects took lactobacillus regardless of age, educational levels and income. However, the subjects who were educated below college were tended to take dog-soju more frequently compared to the other subjects. The subjects who felt their health condition good were significantly(p<0.05) consumed the health food more than those who felt their health condition bad. The subjects who had low nutritional knowledge score were significantly(p<0.05)consumed the health food more frequently than those who had high nutritional knowledge score.
The purpose of this study was to compare the onset times of muscle activities and the order of muscle firing in hamstring gluteus maximus, and lumbar erector spinae muscle during active hip extension between subjects with low back pain (LBP) and healthy subjects. Thirty subjects, 15 with LBP and 15 healthy subjects, participated in this study. Electromyographic activity was recorded during active hip extension in prone and standing position. Relative onset times of these muscle activities were determined. Similar muscle firing order in hamstring, gluteus maximus, and lumbar erector spinae muscle showed in both groups and positions. However, the onset time of gluteus maximus was significantly later in prone and standing active hip extension in subjects with LBP than in healthy subjects. The onset time of lumber erector spinae muscle activity was significantly delayed in subjects with LBP in standing active hip extension, The delayed onset times of gluteus maximus and lumbar erector spinae muscles' activities were probably related to LBP. Further studies are needed to identify whether the delayed onset times of gluteus maximus and lumbar erector spinae muscle activities are the contributing factors to LBP.
The purpose of this study was to find out comparison of preference style and wearing style of jacket by body perception and satisfaction. This research was done by a survey method. Descriptive Statistics, t-test, Pearson's Correlation, Coefficients MANOVA, Two-Way ANOVA and Duncan's test were used for data analysis. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The subjects were less satisfied with larger or thicker girth of upper body. The subjects were less satisfied with thicker upper arm, lower arm, waist and lower abdomen. The subjects were less satisfied with larger or thicker girth of lower body. The subjects were less satisfied with thicker hips, thighs, calves, ankles, and longer crotch length. 2) The subjects with the highest dissatisfaction about neck thickness and length prefer jacket with collar but wear jacket without cellar. The subjects with the smallest bust wear jacket with short lapel. The subjects with wider shoulder wear jacket with narrower shoulder width. The subjects with more dissatisfaction about shoulder incline wear raglan sleeve jacket. The subjects with wider hips wear hip line length jacket.
