Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the prevalence rate of refractive error with gender and age presenting visual acuity of primary student in Jeonnam. Methods: Subjective refraction, objective refraction and visual acuity test were examined on 735 primary school children who ages of 8~13 years lived in Jenman. Presenting visual acuity test was using Han's visual acuity chart and objective refraction was carried out using auto-refractometer. Results: The presenting visual acuity was 0.1 worse in the eye of 54(7.3%) students and 49(7.3%) of them wearing the glasses. The rate of the wearing glasses were 79.3% in 0.125~0.25 visual acuity, 64.2% in 0.3~0.5 visual acuity and 61.6% in 0.6~0.8 visual acuity. It was appeared that 269(36.6%) of them were emmetropia, 321(43.7%) of them were myopia and 56(7.6%) of them were hyperopia, and 89(12.1%) of them were astigmatism. The prevalence rate of myopia was the highest and followed by the prevalence rate of astigmatism. The low degree of myopia occupied the most and the medium degree of myopia showed the tendency of increase as the students get olds. The prevalence rate of the hyperopia showed the tendency of decrease as the students get olds. The prevalence rate of with the rule astigmatism were 50.6% students and against the rule astigmatism were 48.3% of students. Conclusions: The present study reveals the considerable prevalence rates, 466(63.4%) of included subjects, of refractive errors among primary students in Jeonnam province. The rate of the wearing glasses were 313(42.6%). The prevalence of myopia increases as the students get older. Therefore students of visual management is considered necessary through the visual acuity test and refractive examination.
Purpose: The aims of this study were to investigate the stereoacuity and subjective symptoms of aniseikonia with prescription of the size lens. Methods: Participants were myopic anisometropia patients with the binocular refraction difference between 1.75 D~3.50 D. Inclusion criteria of participants were no ocular pathology, no amblyopia, more than 1.0 of corrected visual acuity. With fully corrected spectacles and a correction with the size lens, Awaya aniseikonia test and Randot Stereo test were conducted respectively. In addition, subjective symptoms were also examined using questionnaire. Results: As the anisometropia increased, the aniseikonia increased. Under the anisometropia with same refractive correction was different for each individual. The prescription of size lens caused less aniseikonia than the general prescription of glasses. In addition, prescription of the size lens improved stereoacuity and relieved the symptoms of asthenopia. Conclusions: The prescription of size lens that can correct aniseikonia with prescription of glasses can improve stereoacuity and reduced asthenopia.
The analysis of wide-angle seismic reflection and refraction data plays an important role in lithospheric-scale crustal structure study. However, it is extremely difficult to develop an appropriate velocity structure model directly from the observed data, and we have to improve the structure model step by step, because the crustal structure analysis is an intrinsically non-linear problem. There are several subjective processes in wide-angle crustal structure modelling, such as phase identification and trial-and-error forward modelling. Because these subjective processes in wide-angle data analysis reduce the uniqueness and credibility of the resultant models, it is important to reduce subjectivity in the analysis procedure. From this point of view, we describe two software tools, PASTEUP and MODELING, to be used for developing crustal structure models. PASTEUP is an interactive application that facilitates the plotting of record sections, analysis of wide-angle seismic data, and picking of phases. PASTEUP is equipped with various filters and analysis functions to enhance signal-to-noise ratio and to help phase identification. MODELING is an interactive application for editing velocity models, and ray-tracing. Synthetic traveltimes computed by the MODELING application can be directly compared with the observed waveforms in the PASTEUP application. This reduces subjectivity in crustal structure modelling because traveltime picking, which is one of the most subjective process in the crustal structure analysis, is not required. MODELING can convert an editable layered structure model into two-way traveltimes which can be compared with time-sections of Multi Channel Seismic (MCS) reflection data. Direct comparison between the structure model of wide-angle data with the reflection data will give the model more credibility. In addition, both PASTEUP and MODELING are efficient tools for handling a large dataset. These software tools help us develop more plausible lithospheric-scale structure models using wide-angle seismic data.
Purpose: To study the effect of an artificially induced dioptric blur on acuity and contrast sensitivity using the $Optec^{(R)}$ 6500. Methods: Healthy 31 subjects aged $22.90{\pm}1.92$ (male 16, female 15) who were recruited from university students with 6/6 (20/20) or better corrected visual acuity and normal binocularity. They were measured objective and subjective refraction for full correction and dioptric blur using 0.00 ~ +3.00 D (+0.50 D steps) trial lenses and trial frame. They were measured binocularly visual acuity and contrast sensitivity with the $Optec^{(R)}$ 6500 (Stereo Optical Co., Inc., Chicago, Illinois, USA) under day conditions (photopic condition, $85cd/m^2$). Results: The higher dioptric blur, the less distance visual acuity and decrease rate of visual acuity. The higher dioptric blur, the less contrast sensitivity at all frequencies, and the peak of contrast sensitivity was shifted from middle frequency (6 cpd) to low frequency (1.5 cpd). When the visual acuity was best visual acuity to 0.77, there was the peak point at 6 cpd which was normal contrast sensitivity peak point. Conclusions: If the low refractive error is uncorrected or the refractive error is inappropriate, the contrast sensitivity is decreased and the peak point of contrast sensitivity frequency is shifted abnormally though small uncorrected refractive error. So it will be considered that regular eye test and decision of refractive error correction is important.
We did the comparison research about three different methods of measuring horizontal phoria and vertical phoria which are Von Graefe test, Maddox Rod test and polarizing lens test. The inspection was don with the subjective method of refraction about normal 63 subjects aged from 20 to 28 years old. The analysis of date resulted in as follows : 1. Using Von Graefe Horizontal phoria Measurement, they were measured 5% for orthpharia, 51% for exophoria and 44% for esophoria. 2. Using Von Graefe vertical phoria Measurement, they were measured 68% for orthphoria, 20% for left hypophoria against the right and 12% for left hyperphoria against the right. 3. Using Maddox Rod Horizontal phoria Measurement, they were measured 7% for orthphoria, 49% for exophoria and 44% for esophoria. 4. Using Maddox Rod vertical phoria Measurement, they were measured 70% for orthphoria, 19% for left hypophoria against the right and 11% for left hyperphoria against the right. 5. Using Polarizing Horizontal phoria Measurement, they were measured 10% for orthphoria, 49% for exophoria and 41% for esophoria. 6. Using Polarizing vertical phoria Measurement, they were measured 92% for orthpharia, 5% for left hypophoria against the right and 3% for left hyperphoria against the right.
Purpose: This study is to survey that uncomfortable feeling of visual acuity in the first wearing glasses, the number of visiting in age, above vision ranging and refractive errors, astigmatism, and anisometropia. Methods: Automatic refraction and naked visual acuity test executed to receive prescription glasses that the man 509 and women's 499 people visited for the first time, among 3~15 years old who visited an ophthalmoiogical hospital, from January to December, 2003. Results: The first wearing glasses started 3 years old and the most cases was 8~9 years old when they were visited visual acuity 0.5 to 0.7 in most cases. Refractive errors appeared 8 years old and its most plentifully with 20.4%, 92.2% was myopia and 5.2% was hyperopia for the man. Also cases of women was 91.9% for myopia and 5.1% for the hyperopia. Spherical equivalent power was S-1.50${\pm}$1.10D and appeared 62.3% for the low myopia. Astigmatism was appeared 44.6% for the with the rule astigmatism and 75% was cylinder power lower than 1.00D. Cases of simple astigmatism need to glass when was cylinder power C-1.37${\pm}$1.01D, and C-0.50D appeared most distribution. More than 2.00D anisometropia appeared 2.3% for the whole subjective. Conclusions: Of the first wearing glasses visual acuity is 0.5~0.7, spherical equivalent power is S-1.50${\pm}$1.10D, cylinder power of simple astigmatism is C-1.37${\pm}$1.01D.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate how phoria variations would vary with head positions, as well as to review the need to differentiate prism placement over either eye in a relation to the imbalance of the extraocular muscle. Methods: This study was carried out with 44 males (88 eyes) and 16 females (32 eyes) aged between 20 and 30. For all subjects, testings were performed using cover test, subjective refraction, phoria and vergence test. To analyze phoria variations comparatively for the head tilt test and the face turn test, phoria deviation were measured using the von Graefe. Results: For the phoria variation related with head tilt and face turn, a significant difference was observed in the group judged to be abnormal on the horizontal phoria of Morgan' norm (p<0.05); especially in patients who needed near prescription of Sheard's criterion, a higher variation was observed (p<0.05). The abnormal group was composed of patients who needed distance prescription of Sheard's criterion and ones who did not need the prescription, all of whom showed phoria variations, but the mean value was less than the near. Conclusions: With regard to the head tilt and face turn related phoria level, the patients who needed near horizontal prism prescription of Sheard's criterion showed a remarkably higher variation. Altogether, it is deemed to check whether extraocular muscles are ill-balanced in both eyes previously to determine the prism power on phoria level to the end that each of prism powers may be accurately determined.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether a relationship exists between head posture and phoria, and usefulness in examining habitual head posture. Methods: Twenty two subjects (20 males and 2 females, mean age $23.6{\pm}2.7$ years) with abnormal phoria from participants randomized were enrolled in this study. For all subjects, testing included case history, cover test, refraction, phoria and vergence test. Habitual head posture (head posture, head tilt and face turn) was measured by Impression IST, and observed by examiners. Results: The abnormal head posture was revealed in some subjects with abnormal phoria. Spearman' correlation ($\rho$=0.524, p=0.045) showed significant correction between face turn and phoria at distance in 15 subjects with prism prescription. No significant relationship between head posture and phoria was found in subjects with abnormal phoria. The objective measurement and subjective observation of head posture showed insignificant correction but there was a distinct difference. The former was detail and the latter was discriminate. Conclusions: Presence of abnormal head posture was found in phoric subjects. The results indicate the need to observe habitual head posture at all major positions of gaze in phoria.
Purpose: To investigate the near horizontal heterophoria of the college students in their twenties on north Kyonggi Province. Methods: The all subjects had not experienced any ocular surgery and have no disease and their mean age is 22.9. As 122 subjects, they are 50 emmetropes and 72 ametropes. The ametropes are all myopia. After distance visual acuity correction with subjective and objective refraction test, evaluated their horizontal heterophoria with red maddox rod. Results: In maddox rod test, the subjects consist of orthophoria 4.9%, esophoria 9.8% and exophoria 85.3%. In the emmetropes orthophoria is 8%, esophoria is also 8% and exophoria is 84%. In the ametropes orthophoria is 2.8%, esophoria is 11.1% and exophoria is 86.1%. The mean size of horizontal heterophoria is esophoria 3.59PD (prism diopter), exophoria 7.04PD and in the emmetropes esophoria is 3.25PD, exophoria is 6.60PD. In the ametropes esophoria is 3.75PD and exophoria is 7.34PD. Conclusions: In the emmetropoes the orthophoria is more than in the ametropes and the esophoria and exophoria is more in the ametropes. But the differences between the heterophoria and emmetropia or ametropia were not significant (p>0.05). The mean size of heterophoria is higher in the ametropes than in the emmetropoes. The distribution range of heterophoria is wider in the male subjects than the female subjects.

Image distortion can occur when photographing deep sea targets with an optical camera. This problem arises because sunlight is not sufficiently transmitted due to seawater and various floating particles of dust. Particularly, color distortion takes place, causing green and blue color channels to be over emphasized due to water depth, while distortion of boundaries also occurs due to light refraction by seawater and floating particles of dust. These distortions degrade the overall quality of underwater images. In this paper, we analyze underwater images of the bottom of vessels. Based on the results, we propose a technique for color correction and edge enhancement. Experimental results show that the proposed method increases edge clarity by 3.39 % compared to the effective edges of the original underwater image. In addition, a quantitative evaluation and subjective image quality evaluation were concurrently performed. As a result, it was confirmed that object boundaries became clear with color correction. The color correction and contour enhancement method proposed in this paper can be applied in various fields requiring underwater imaging in the future.
