Multicarrier systems has major shortcomings due to the large numbers of subcarrier. One of the shortcomings is the high peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR), which causes nonlinearity distortion in the transmitter, and degrades the performance of the system significantly. Partial transmit sequence(PTS) is one of the best approaches that can significantly improve the statistics of the PAPR of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) signal. Guided scrambling(GS) is an extension of self-synchronizing scrambling. It is also capable of guiding the scrambling process to produce a balanced encoded bit stream. In this paper, we propose a sub-optimal algorithm to optimize the phase factor in PTS. In addition, we integrate GS coding with this method. The proposed Hybrid algorithm can get much more PAPR reduction at the expense of incur a few error extension and do not require transmission of side information.

Cooperative relays can provide spatial diversity and improve performance of wireless communications. In this paper, we study subcarrier power allocation at the relays for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based wireless systems. For cooperative relay with amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) algorithms, we investigate the impact of power allocation to the mutual information between the source and destination. From our simulation results on word~error-rate (WER) performance, we find that the DF algorithm with power allocation provides better performance than that of AF algorithm in a single path relay network because the former is able to eliminate channel noise at each relay. For the multiple path relay network, however, the network structure is already resistant to noise and channel distortion, and AF approach is a more attractive choice due to its lower complexity.

In this paper, we propose an efficient channel delay estimation method for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, especially over doubly-selective fading channels which are selective in both the symbol time domain and subcarrier frequency domain. For the doubly-selective fading channels in single frequency network (SFN), long and strong echoes exist and thus the conventional discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) based channel delay estimation system often fails to produce the exact channel delay profile. Based on the analysis of the discrete-time frequency response of the channel impulse response (CIR) coefficients in the DFT-based channel delay estimation system, we develop a method to effectively extract the true CIR from the aliased signals by employing a simple narrow-band low-pass filter (NB-LPF). The performance of the proposed system is verified using the COST207 TU6 SFN channel model.
In this paper, we consider subcarrier-index modulation (SIM) for precoded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with a few activated subcarriers per user and its generalization to multi-carrier multiple access systems. The resulting multiple access is called sparse index multiple access (SIMA). SIMA can be considered as a combination of multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) and SIM. Thus, SIMA is able to exploit a path diversity gain by (random) spreading over multiple carriers as MC-CDMA. To detect multiple users' signals, a low-complexity detection method is proposed by exploiting the notion of compressive sensing (CS). The derived low-complexity detection method is based on the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm, which is one of greedy algorithms used to estimate sparse signals in CS. From simulation results, we can observe that SIMA can perform better than MC-CDMA when the ratio of the number of users to the number of multi-carrier is low.
