  • The subacute oral toxicity study of DWP-311 was carried out in Sprague-Dawley rats of both sexes. We daily examined clinical signs, body weights, hematological and biochemical parameters, and histopathological examinations for 30 days after administration of DWP-311 with different dose levels (0, 0.04, 0.2, and 1.0 g/kg). There were no clinical signs and pathological changes compared with control group except slight decreases in spontaneous motor activities and locomotions at high dose group of DWP-311. Body weights were not significantly changed in animals treated with DWP-311, In histopathological examinations, there were 2 cases of pneumonia in control group for one male and one female, but it was not directly related to DWP-311. These results indicate that subacute oral toxicities of DWP-311 were low and the no-observed a dverse effect level (NOAEL) was considered to be 1.0 g/kg in rats.

  • The subacute toxicity was investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats orally treated with KDRD-010 at the doses of 0.056, 0.28, and 1.4 g/kg for one month. There were no clinical signs and pathological changes compared with control group. Body weights were not significantly changed between control and treatment groups. In hematological and biochemical serum parameters, all mean values appear to be within the normal range. In pathological examinations, hemorrhages of lung was observed in one male rat at low dose group and one female rat at high dose group of KDRD-010, but it was not considered to be caused by KDRD-010. These results suggest that KDRD-010 dose not induce any significant subacute oral toxicities in Sprague-Dawley rats.

  • Subacute toxicity study was performed in Sprague-Dawley rats after daily oral administration of KDRD-002 0.23, 0.7, 2.1 g/kg for one month. There were no clinical signs and pathological changes compared with control group but slight decrease in spontaneous motor activities and locomotions at high dose group of KDRD-002. Body weights were not significantly changed between control and KDRD-002 treated groups. In histopathological examinations, however, two animals (1 male, 1 female) showed abnormal increases in the weights of spleen tissues at middle dose group of KDRD-002. Also, there were some hemorrhages in lung tissues at low dose group of KDRD-002, but it was not considered to be caused by KDRD-002. These results suggest that KDRD-002 does not induce any significant subacute oral toxicity in Sprague-Dawley rats.

  • Because facial nerve injuries affect the quality of life, leaving them untreated can have devastating effects. The number of patients with traumatic and iatrogenic facial nerve paralysis is considerably high. Early detection and prompt treatment during the acute injury phase are crucial, and immediate surgical treatment should be considered when complete facial nerve injury is suspected. Symptom underestimation by patients and clinical misdiagnosis may delay surgical intervention, which may negatively affect outcomes and in some cases, impair the recovery of the injured facial nerve. Here, we report two cases of facial nerve injury that were treated with nerve grafts during the subacute phase. In both cases, subacute facial nerve grafting achieved significant improvements. These cases highlight surgical intervention in the subacute phase using nerve grafts as an appropriate treatment for facial nerve injuries.

  • PURPOSE: This study compared the effects of dual motor task training and simple task training on the balance of subacute stroke patients. METHODS: A total of 23 subacute stroke patients participated in the study. The subjects were allocated randomly to two groups: an experimental group and a control group. Both groups received conventional treatment for 50 minutes, 5 times per week for 6 weeks. In addition, the experimental group stacked blocks, moved catch cups, and moved rings while standing and gait. To evaluate the effects of the exercises, subjects were evaluated by using the balance system and the timed get up and go test(TUG) for balance measurement. The data was analyzed using a paired t-test and independent t-test to determine the statistical significance. RESULTS: The experimental group showed a significant decrease on the medial-lateral and anterior-posterior stability index compared to the control group (p<.05) for the simple task and a significant decrease on the medial-lateral and anterior-posterior stability index compared to the control group for the dual task. In addition, the experimental group showed a significant increase in TUG time compared to the control group (p<.05). CONCLUSION: These results support the perceived benefits of dual motor task training to augment the balance of subacute stroke patients. Therefore, dual motor task training is recommended for subacute stroke patients.

  • Purpose: This systematic review aims to determine whether robot-assisted training is more effective in gait training for persons with subacute hemiparetic stroke. Methods: This study adopted a systematic review study design focused on subacute hemiparetic stroke, and four core academic databases were searched until June 11, 2021, for relevant studies, including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and ProQuest Central. The review included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effects of robotic-assisted training on gait performance in persons with a diagnosis of subacute hemiparetic stroke. The selected RCT studies were qualitatively synthesized based on the population, intervention, comparison, outcome, settings, and study design (PICOS-SD). Results: The study selected five RCTs involving 253 subacute hemiparetic stroke patients and performing robotic-assisted gait training using the following devices: the Lokomat, Morning Walk, Walkbot, ProStep Plus, or Gait Trainer II. Five RCTs were eligible for the meta-analysis after quantitative synthesis, and the results showed that the robot-assisted gait training group had a greater gait performance than the control group based on the 10-meter walk test, Berg balance scale, Rivermed mobility index, functional ambulation category, and modified Barthel index. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the gait performance of subacute hemiparetic stroke patients changes throughout robot-assisted gait training, but there were no indications that any of the clinically relevant effects of robot-assisted training are greater than those of conventional gait training. Further, the small sample size and different therapeutic intensities indicate that definitive conclusions could not be made.

  • The acute and subacute toxicity of New Wonbangwoohwangchungsimwon (NSCH) which was used l-muscone as substitutive material of musk were investigated in S.D. rats. In intraperitoneal acute toxicity test, rats were injected intraperitoneally with five dosages of 0, 500, 710, 1,000, 1,410 and 2,000 mg/kg. Body weights were significantly decreased at 500 and 710 mg/kg dose group in male and abnormal autopsy findings were founded in both sexes at all dose. Intraperitoneal $LD_{50}$ of NSCH was 1,088.3 mg/kg in male and 1159.3 mg/kg in female rats. In the subacute toxicity study, NSCH was administrated orally to both sexes of rats for 4 weeks as several doses(0, 320, 800, and 2,000 mg/kg). There were neither dead animals nor significant changes of body weights during the experimental period. In addition, no differences were found between control and treated groups in clinical signs, urinalysis, hematology, serum biochemical analysis, and other findings. Above data strongly suggest that no observed adverse effect level of NSCH might be over 2,000 mg/kg/day in this study.
