Multimodal Interaction Framework for Collaborative Augmented Reality in Education

  • One of the most important technologies today is augmented reality technology, it allows users to experience the real world using virtual objects that are combined with the real world. This technology is interesting and has become applied in many sectors such as the shopping and medicine, also it has been included in the sector of education. In the field of education, AR technology has become widely used due to its effectiveness. It has many benefits, such as arousing students' interest in learning imaginative concepts that are difficult to understand. On the other hand, studies have proven that collaborative between students increases learning opportunities by exchanging information, and this is known as Collaborative Learning. The use of multimodal creates a distinctive and interesting experience, especially for students, as it increases the interaction of users with the technologies. The research aims at developing collaborative framework for developing achievement of 6th graders through designing a framework that integrated a collaborative framework with a multimodal input "hand-gesture and touch", considering the development of an effective, fun and easy to use framework with a multimodal interaction in AR technology that was applied to reformulate the genetics and traits lesson from the science textbook for the 6th grade, the first semester, the second lesson, in an interactive manner by creating a video based on the science teachers' consultations and a puzzle game in which the game images were inserted. As well, the framework adopted the cooperative between students to solve the questions. The finding showed a significant difference between post-test and pre-test of the experimental group on the mean scores of the science course at the level of remembering, understanding, and applying. Which indicates the success of the framework, in addition to the fact that 43 students preferred to use the framework over traditional education.

Personality and Learning Behavioral Characteristics as Predictors of Academic Achievement of Medical Students

  • This study investigates whether personality characteristics and learning behaviors can predict medical students' academic achievement in Korea, specifically in terms of successfully completing medical school without delays or achieving a high grade point average (GPA) in their final year. In May 2018, 316 medical students took the Multi-Dimensional Learning Strategy Test, 2nd edition, which provided data on their personality and learning behavioral characteristics. Their final year's GPA and any delays in completing medical school were ascertained by reviewing all electronic academic records of each semester they had been enrolled. The combination of personality and learning behavioral characteristics was significantly associated with completing medical school without delays, even after adjusting for sex and admission path. A multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for completing medical school without delays were 1.52 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.83-2.78) and 3.64 (95% CI, 1.70-7.82) for "others" and "both high" categories, respectively, when compared with the "both low" category. For 235 students who completed medical school without delays, their learning behavioral characteristics (scores) were significantly associated with their final year's GPA even after adjusting for sex, admission path, and personality characteristics (scores) as determined by the multiple linear regression analysis. This study suggests that individual personality and learning behavior characteristics are predictors of medical students' academic achievement. Therefore, interventions such as personalized counseling programs should be provided in consideration of such student characteristics.

일학습병행 재직자학위연계 교육과정 참여학생의 학습성과와 대학측 대응 노력 간의 연관성 고찰 (An Examination of the Relationship between Learning Outcomes of Employees Participating in Work-Study Integrated Degree Programs and University Efforts in Response)

  • The degree-linked programs for employees, operated by joint training centers in specialized universities that have implemented work-study integrated programs, are educational programs that require an annual government budget of around 80 billion KRW. However, the 70+ universities running these programs face issues such as a decline in academic achievement and an increase in dropout rates among students. In this paper, I conducted multiple regression analysis based on observed and measured information to examine whether the participating students in these programs are achieving an appropriate level of academic performance and to identify the factors that universities need to invest in to achieve that level. To do this, I hypothesized a causal relationship between the university's input factors and students' academic achievement, and used the SPSS program to analyze the statistical data, confirming the validity of the hypothesis. The collected data for the study were obtained through a survey developed using a Likert 4-point scale, which quantified the distribution of grades among students enrolled in IT-related departments offering the degree-linked programs for employees and the emotional contact efforts made by the universities to motivate them for academic success. Particularly, through the results of multiple regression analysis, it was confirmed that these input factors, unlike those for students in general education programs, require more personalized and frequent interactions.

  • 본 연구는 기관 내 삽관 수행 시 성공률에 영향을 미치는 신체적 요인에 대해 알아보기 위한 비동등성 단일군 사후 유사 실험연구이다. 연구결과 기관 내 삽관을 성공적으로 수행한 시간과 신체적 요인은 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 기관 내 삽관 수행 시 수행자의 팔의 각도는 수행시간에 영향을 미쳤으며, 팔의 각도가 좁아질수록 수행시간이 짧아지는 결과를 보였다. 기관 내 삽관 수행 시 수행자의 팔의 각도를 줄일 수 있도록 노력한다면 성공적인 기관 내 삽관을 시행할 수 있을 것이다. 하지만 다양한 환경 및 직군에 대한 추가적인 후속 연구를 통해 임상적 활용의 가능성을 확인해야 할 것이다.

Caffe Bene: Creating Values for Customers

  • Caffe Bene, one of the most notable coffeehouse chain brands in Republic of Korea, gives us some thought-provoking issues in terms of sustainable success. Despite harsh competition among various coffeehouse brands, Caffe Bene has been accomplished astonishing outcomes in domestic market and now ranked 2nd place in sales among the global coffeehouse franchise in 2010 and 2011. These achievements were possible mainly because Caffe Bene adopted distinctive shop design, maintained aggressive marketing strategy, developed new menu, and combined the unique Korean culture with ordinary concept of café to make its place attractive. However, since Korean coffeehouse market is getting saturated and consumers are becoming savvy about coffee, Caffe Bene needs to find a new solution to overcome growth stagnation. Besides, many experts pointed out that irrational increase in the number of stores might hurt its business in the aspect of managing distribution channel and providing consistent services. Also, customers of Caffe Bene have shown that it has to complement its critical weaknesses: inferior coffee taste and relatively high price for a cup of coffee. Especially, some people view that the company is shifting its high rental fee, interior cost and PPL marketing cost to consumers by charging high price for coffee. To get over the problems, Caffe Bene is currently using C/S Consumer Management System though experts are questioning about the efficacy because of the conflict between purpose of the system and the headquarters' plan. Present CEO Kim also announced that the company will complete its logistics system in the latter half of 2012 to provide stores with more high quality coffee beans to improve taste of coffee. Thus, in this case, we describe how Caffe Bene succeeded in Korean market and enumerate its key success factors. Also, we specify the long-term goals of Caffe Bene and introduce the current policies and strategies to show how the company is working on to achieve its ultimate goal. By reading and analyzing this business case, students could get useful insights regarding franchise management and think about issues on competing in a saturated market. Also, it would be worthwhile to generate creative solutions for the problems that Caffe Bene is now facing to broaden the practical perspective.

연구기반 스핀오프 벤처기업의 성장과정 및 성공요인에 관한 탐색적 사례연구;(주)아이센스 (An Exploratory Case Study on the Growth Process and Success Factors in the Research Based Spin-off Ventures;i-SENS)

  • 본 연구는 공공연구기관에서 개발한 기술을 기반으로 창업된 연구기반스핀오프벤처기업의 성장과정과 성장과정에서 나타난 어려움을 극복하고 성공할 수 있었던 요인들에 대해 살펴본 사례연구이다. 사례기업은 연구기반스핀오프벤처기업의 한 형태인 교수벤처기업 (주)아이센스이다. (주)아이센스는 광운대학교 화학과에 재직 중이던 차근식 교수와 남학현 교수가 연구실 대학원생들과 창업한 벤처기업으로 자가 혈당측정기틀 생산하는 신기술벤처기업이다. 두 교수는 광운대학교 내에 화학센서 연구센터를 운영하면서 바이오센서와 관련된 많은 기초연구 성과를 도출하였으며, 연구개발 전문회사를 설립하여 용역과제를 수행하면서 연구자금을 마련하고, 추후 하고 싶은 연구를 수행할 목적으로 (주)아이센스를 설립하였다. 그러나 창업자들의 초기의도와는 달리 (주)아이센스는 자가혈당측정기를 생산하여 판매하는 제조회사로 성장하였으며, 2008년 코스닥 상장 예정이다. 본 연구는 성공적인 연구기반스핀오프벤처기업인 (주)아이센스의 창업과 성장과정을 분석하고 성장과정에서의 어려움을 극복하고 성공할 수 있었던 요인을 규명하여, 연구기반스핀오프벤처기업이 성공할 수 있는 정책적 실무적 시사점을 제공하고자 한다.

D대학교 치과위생사 국가시험 합격의 변인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Variables of Success in the National Dental Hygienist Licence Examination at D College)

  • 본 연구는 2011년 11월 14일부터 11월 25일까지 강원도에 위치한 D대학교의 치위생과 3학년 재학생 중 120명을 대상으로 치과위생사 국가시험 합격의 변인에 대하여 조사 분석하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS WIN 13.0 프로그램과 R 2. 13. 2 프로그램을 이용하여, $x^2$(Chi-square) 검증, 회귀분석, Multiple linear Regression, Logistic Regression 등을 실시하였으며, 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 전공에 대한 만족도, 학업성적, 모의고사 성적이 높은 학생이 많이 합격하는 경향을 보였다. 2. 학업성적과 모의고사 성적은 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 3. 학업성적 평균과 전공에 대한 만족도가 같은 경우, 모의고사성적 평균이 1점 증가하면 국가시험에 합격할 확률은 불합격할 확률에 비해 1.141배 증가하였다. 본 연구결과, 치과위생사 국가시험 합격에 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 변인은 모의고사 성적으로 나타난 바, 국가시험 준비 시 모의고사 성적이 낮은 학생을 우선적으로 집중 지도 관리하여야 할 것으로 생각된다.

근거이론을 통한 수학학습의 성공경험에 대한 분석 (Analysis of the successful experience in mathematics learning based on grounded theory)

  • 수학학습에서 좋은 학업성취를 내는 것은 인지적 요인, 정의적 요인, 사회 환경적 요인 등 다양한 요인이 작용하는 매우 복잡한 과정이다. 지금까지 수행된 다수의 선행 연구들에서 수학학습에 영향을 미치는 특정한 요인들이 있으며 이러한 요인들이 수학학습에 긍정적 혹은 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 이러한 연구들은 변인을 제한하여 연구를 수행했기에 학습자의 관점에서 수학학습에 있어서의 좋은 성취를 얻기 위해서는 어떠한 점이 필요한지에 대한 종합적인 분석 결과를 제시하지는 못했다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 수학학습에서 성공을 경험한 학생들을 대상으로 하여 수학학습에서 성공을 경험한 학생들이 어떠한 경험의 과정을 겪었는지를 근거이론의 분석방법으로 분석하였다. 또한 수집된 자료를 분석하여 수학학습의 성공 경험에 이르는 과정을 설명하고자 했다. 분석 결과, 학생들은 '새로운 국면 단계', '경험 축적 단계', '견디기 단계', '유지 노력 단계'의 과정을 거쳐 성공적인 학습자로서의 정체성을 형성하는 것으로 드러났다. 본 연구를 통해서 수학학습에서 성공을 경험하는 과정을 살펴봄으로써 수학학습에서 성공을 경험하기 위해 어떠한 행동이 필요한지에 대한 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다.

Knowledge of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection, Cervical Cancer, and HPV Vaccine and its Correlates among Medical Students in Southwest China: a Multi-center Cross-sectional Survey

  • Background: Since cervical cancer can be prevented and controlled through human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, it is important to train health care providers and provide them with appropriate knowledge. This study aimed to understand the level of HPV related knowledge among medical students and correlates in Southwest China in order to address any potential gap in their knowledge base. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among medical students in six selected universities across Southwest China based on a pretested questionnaire regarding HPV infection, cervical cancer, and HPV vaccines. Results: We successfully surveyed 1, 878 medical students, of whom 32.1% were males and 67.9% were females. Their mean age was 20.8 (standard deviation: 1.3) years. 91.8% of them were ethnic Han Chinese, and 43.8% were students in clinical medicine. While 76.5% had heard of HPV only 48.8% knew that the prevention of cervical cancer was possible through HPV vaccination. Only 42.9% of the male and 49.2% of the female students correctly answered over 10 out of 22 questions on HPV related knowledge. Female students appeared to know more about HPV and HPV vaccination (OR: 1.39; 95% CI: 1.11-1.75). In addition, the student knowledge improved with the grade (p<0.001). University courses were the most selected source of knowledge about HPV vaccination (66.4%). 83.6% of males and 91.4% of females were willing to have more HPV related education by experts (p<0.001). Only 10.1% of the students acknowledged that people had asked for their advice regarding HPV vaccination. Conclusions: Our survey indicates that medical students from Southwest China have poor knowledge of HPV and HPV vaccination, but are willing to receive more relevant information. Targeted education should be incorporated into school courses to inform these future health care providers and ensure success of programs for cervical cancer control and prevention.

청소년의 학업소진과 학교적응의 관계에서 자기효능감의 매개효과 (Mediating effects of self-efficacy in the relationships between academic burnout and school adjustment on middle school students)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 중학생들의 학업소진, 자기효능감이 학교적응에 어떠한 과정을 거쳐서 영향을 미치는지 변인들 간의 경로를 규명하여 경로모형을 검증하고, 자기효능감의 매개효과를 살펴보는 데 있다. 이러한 목적에 따라 G시에 있는 세 곳의 중학교 3학년 학생들 713명을 대상으로 연구가 진행되었다. 연구결과는 첫째, 경로계수와 적합도지수가 유의하여 경로모형이 유의한 것으로 검증되었다. 둘째, 학업소진은 자기효능감과 학교적응에 직접적으로 부적인 영향을 미치며, 자기효능감은 학교적응에 정적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자기효능감은 학업소진과 학교적응 사이에서 유의한 매개효과가 있음이 검증되었다. 이러한 결과에 근거하여 우리나라 청소년들에게 부과되는 과도한 학업요구로 인한 학업소진이 학교적응에 부정적인 영향을 주지만, 개인변인으로써 자기효능감이 잘 발달되어있다면 학교부적응을 줄일 수 있기 때문에 자기효능감과 같은 심리적 요인에 대한 개입이 필요함을 확인하였고, 이결과를 토대로 논의 및 후속연구를 제안하였다.
