  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore perception of clinical experience between the initial and final practice and to explore changes in the perception of clinical experience. Method: The study used a Q-method to measure perception of clinical practice. Thirty-six statements made up the finalized Q-sample. The P sample used thirty three nursing college students from K university. The initial collection was done in the first semester of their junior year and second collection was done in the last semester of their senior year. The Q-sorts by each student were coded and analysed with the Quanl PC program. Result: Many students classified as having the perception type 'alienation of ideal and reality' or 'perception of limitation of ability' in the initial clinical practice changed to the type, 'active participation' by the final clinical practice. Further, in the initial clinical practice, part of 'active participation' and 'perception of limitation of ability' changed to 'alienation of ideal and reality'. Conclusion: This study shows that perception of their clinical practice by student nurses changed in a positive direction through clinical experience and that this fact was related to the level of satisfaction with nursing. The knowledge and understanding obtained in this research provide insights for nursing faculty and students involved in nursing education.

  • In this study, we explored the factors related with preference for and participation in science-related activities of elementary school students. We developed a questionnaire to measure the characteristics of students such as motivation toward science learning, science aspiration, family science orientation, parental educational level and occupation, and the degrees of preference and participation of science-related activities. The questionnaire was administered to about 400 fourth graders in Seoul. The results revealed that the students with higher motivation toward science learning and/or science aspiration preferred and participated more in most activities. It was also found that parental educational level and occupation did not make an appreciable difference in preference and participation. The students who perceived their parents to be science-oriented, however, preferred and participated more in most activities. These results may offer practical implications for effective uses of both school and out-of-school science activities in elementary science education.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate recognition and knowledge regarding clinical trials, in particular, after a clinical trial education program (CTEP) among student nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design of 215 student nurses at a university in Seoul was used with structured questionnaires. Results: Respondents had a high level of need for clinical trial and moderate levels in favorable image, safety, and need for education regarding clinical trial. The respondents who had participated in the CTEP felt the clinical trial more favorable and safer than those who did not. However, there were no significant differences in necessity of clinical trials and need for education regarding clinical trial between the CTEP participation and no participation groups. Respondents had a high level of knowledge about clinical trial, even though half of the respondents misunderstood that the physician can convince the subject to participate in clinical trial. There was no significant difference in knowledge level between groups. One third of the respondents had an intention to work in the area related to clinical trial because of aptitude or future prospect. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that the CTEP might have an effect on student nurses' recognition rather than knowledge. The CTEP should be therefore developed targeting specific areas of misconceptions and recognition changes.

  • 'Science festival' is an annual public event featuring a variety of science- and technology-related workshops and live demonstrations of experiments by student presenters. This study was to explore the student presenters' and student visitors' perceptions of the science festival. The subjects were 323 student presenters who managed laboratory booths and 495 student visitors who attended the festival for six days. We developed a questionnaire based on the modified items of ones both from Ahn & Park (2009) and Lee et al. (2010). Data included students' participation backgrounds, differences of their perceptions about the educational effects according to participation types and school levels, and student presenters' perceptions of scientific inquiry that they had through the preparation of the festival. Findings suggested that student presenters perceived their experience of preparing for the festival as meaningful scientific inquiry process such as asking and solving problems. Based on the results, discussion and implications for communitybased programs as an informal science education were presented.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to assess the factors influencing the political participation of nursing students who, as they become future leaders in the nursing field, will need to increase their participation in health policy decisions. Methods: Data were collected using web-based questionnaires answered by 157 nursing students between March 13 and 27, 2023. Those data were analyzed using t-test, a one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and a multiple linear regression. Results: The average score of political participation was 2.77±0.70 out of 5 points. Political participation showed positive correlations between political efficacy (r=.48, p<.001) and nursing professionalism (r=.27, p<.001). Furthermore, sex (female) and political efficacy were identified as influencing factors on political participation among nursing students, which explained it with 24.0% power. Conclusion: Providing timely nursing education is necessary for enhancing political efficacy, which could promote political participation among nursing students.
