Structural Strength Analysis of Automotive Suspension (자동차 현가장치의 구조 강도 해석)

  • This paper describes the analysis of state when load applies to McPherson strut assembly. Strut assembly except knuckle-arm are created with 3 dimensional modeling program. Stress and structural strength on this model are analyzed by analysis program as load applies on the lower part of assembly modeling. When McPherson suspension is applied with 3000N at Z direction, maximum stress at spring becomes 433MPa and the cycle of minimum life is 4321. The designed modeling suspension at this study has no possibility with resonance.

  • Recently rapid construction of bridge is a main interest in construction. A research on rapid construction of pier coping is urgently needed because pier, which is a bridge understructure, directly affect lane reduction and increase of social cost. Precast assembly method and pre-assembly method are the main subjects of rapid construction. But these researches have focused not on reduction of reinforcement amount, but on modifying production method of coping. Reinforcement amount of design specification is as much as that of coping under constructing. So different approach is needed for reduction of reinforcement amount. In this paper, design of pier coping using strut-tie model was proposed for reduction of reinforcement amount and improvement of constructability. Railway bridge pier coping under constructing was analyzed using a finite element method and designed using strut-tie model.

Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of reciprocating flexible manipulators

  • Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of a reciprocating flexible manipulator is investigated in this paper. The flexible manipulator is driven by a multifunctional active strut with fuzzy logic controllers. The multifunctional active strut is a combination of a motor assembly and a piezoelectric stack actuator to simultaneously provide precision positioning and wide frequency bandwidth vibration suppression capabilities. First, the multifunctional active strut and the flexible manipulator are introduced, and their dynamic models are derived. A control strategy is then proposed, which includes a position controller and a vibration controller to achieve simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of the flexible manipulator. Next, fuzzy logic control approach is presented to design a fuzzy logic position controller and a fuzzy logic vibration controller. Finally, experiments are conducted for the fuzzy logic controllers and the experimental results are compared with those from a PID control scheme consisting of a PID position controller and a PID vibration control. The comparison indicates that the fuzzy logic controller can easily handle the non-linearity in the strut and provide higher position accuracy and better vibration reduction with less control power consumption.

  • Developed in these two series of paper is a complex dynamic model representing the motion of aircraft on the ground and a computer program for numerical simulation. The first part of paper presents the theoretical derivation of equations of motion of the landing gear system based on the physical principle. Developed model is 'structured' in the sense that the undercarriage system is regarded as an assembly of strut, tire, and wheel, where each component is modeled by a separate module. These modules are linked with two external modules-the aircraft and the runway characteristics-to carry out dynamic analysis and numerical simulation of the aircraft motion on the ground. Three sets of coordinate system associated with strut, wheel/tire and runway are defined, and external loads to each component and response characteristics are examined. Lagrangian formulation is used to derive the undercarriage equations of motion relative to the moving aircraft, and the resultant forces and moments from the undercarriage are transformed to aircraft body axes.

Modeling of the lateral stiffness of masonry infilled steel moment-resisting frames

  • This paper presents an analytical model for the estimation of initial lateral stiffness of steel moment resisting frames with masonry infills. However, rather than focusing on the single bay-single storey substructure, the developed model attempts to estimate the global stiffness of multi-storey and multi-bay frames, using an assembly of equivalent springs and taking into account the shape of the lateral loading pattern. The contribution from each infilled frame panel is included as an individual spring, whose properties are determined on the basis of established diagonal strut macro-modeling approaches from the literature. The proposed model is evaluated parametrically against numerical results from frame analyses, with varying number of frame stories, infill openings, masonry thickness and modulus of elasticity. The performance of the model is evaluated and found quite satisfactory.

An Experimental Study on Compressive Loading Capacity of Precast Concrete Truss System (프리캐스트 콘크리트 트러스 시스템의 압축 내하력 실험 연구)

  • In a large scale of excavation for the foundation of large-sized structures and underground structures, a considerable amount of earth pressure can occur. Steel beams that have been used to form a temporary structure to support earth pressure may be less economical and less efficient in resisting the high earth pressure. To cope with this problem, PCT(Precast Concrete Truss) system has been devised and investigated both experimentally and analytically. A proper connection method between the concrete truss members was proposed to accommodate fast assembly and disassembly. Full-scale test of PCT system was performed to verify the load-carrying capacity of the PCT system including the connections. The test results were compared with those of structural analysis. The test specimen which corresponds to PCT strut attained the ultimate load without buckling, but the detail of connector members needs to be improved. It is expected that precast concrete truss members can be efficiently incorporated into a temporary structure for deep and large excavation by replacing conventional steel beams.
