한국건축에서 장소성 개념의 변천과 의미구조에 대한 연구 - 1990년대 전후의 한국건축담론을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Diachronic and Synchronic Structure of the Concept of Place in Korean Architecture - Focused on the Korean Architectural Discourse during Around 1990s -)

  • This study investigated the complex meanings of the concept of place and their periodical changes in the Korean architectural discourse. For that, the study surveyed almost every articles in majour 3 Korean architectural magazines during around 1990s, when the Korean architects and theorists concerned the 'place' as an alternative of the modernists' 'space'. 60 selected articles were organized in a table in a chronological order together with their keywords and category codes. The 8 categories reflecting 8 issues of 'place' were suggested in the study after the analysis of selected articles' contents. The categories were structured by two axes which were 4-grade scale axis influences by C. Norberg-Schultz' approach, and 'architecture-human' axis following the 'structure-action' division by A. Giddens. After the analysis of the diachronic and synchronic tables, the study tried to establish a structure model of the concept of place in Korean architectural context, which consisted of architectural terms such as environment, social system, context, identity, landscape, community, Materiality, and residence. This final result could be useful for both architects and theorists who might try to apply the idea of 'place' without erstwhile confusion on their design or research by examining the detailed contents of the concept.

도시단독주택지(都市單獨住宅地) 단위(單位)블록의 유형화(類型化)와 이의 물리적(物理的) 특성(特性)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Unit Block Types and Physical Characteristics of Individual Residential Area in Seoul)

  • To improve the environment of individual residential area, the uniform development of multiple dwellings through site should be avoided. As an alternative to a large scale development of the currently popular high-density and high-rise apartment buildings, which disintegrates and destroys existing communities, a new residential type that is applicable to the individual residential area should be developed. From the new residential type, even for short history of Korea of modem urban residence, a new concept of residence can be formed, changing from the concept of a temporary staying place to the concept of a stable residing place. Also, a gradual improvement that transcends time can be expected, and the present and past appearances can co-exist. This study was conducted to suggest a new residential type with unit blocks that can improve the physical structure of existing individual residential area without destroying the structure. That is, among the factors that comprise the individual residential area, this study will focus on the unit block with a medium role between a site and a mega-block, and will suggest a new concept of residential unit in order not to destroy its physical structure. The physical characteristics of the unit block will also be analyzed.

항공기 복합재 날개구조 전단흐름 해석 (Shear Flow Analysis of Aircraft Composite Wing Structure)

  • Traditionally aluminum alloy have been used in manufacturing of aircraft structures, and semi-monocoque structural concept have been mainly applied in structural design of fuselage and wing. However, recently monocoque structural concept is applied in many small-size aircraft structures manufactured with composite materials. In such case appling monocoque structural concept, in initial conceptual design stage on wing, it is not easy to analyze shear flow using classical shear flow analytical method because composite skin structure can support span-wise tension/compression stress as well as sectional shear stress. In this study, an extended shear-flow analytical method to apply to composite monocoque structural concept was developed through extending the classical shear-flow analytical method.

A Study on the Definition of the Term "Tectonics" in Architecture

  • This paper attempts to identify the term "tectonics" comprehensively by collecting and categorizing existing definitions of tectonics within the architectural area rather than to stress the concept of tectonics of each specific theorist. Although no consensus of opinion on the concept of tectonics exists, architectural tectonics was closely related to the following terms in three categories: 1. $techn\acute{e}$, technique, and technology; 2. construction and structure; and 3. stereotomics. Based on its etymology, system, and material construct, the notion of tectonics common in these three categories signifies "the art of framing construction," in which linear elements are connected with joints and clad or infilled with lightweight material. Thus, the art of framing construction, as a common concept of tectonics, reveals the following characteristics: First, tectonics is based on framing construction in contrast to piling-up construction as the etymology of tectonics signifies the art of carpentry. Then, the term tectonics, dealing as it does with a higher level of construction rather than the mechanical level of structure, incorporates the poetic aspect of techne as well as the rational aspect of technology. Third, Owing to the organic, double system of tectonic frame and incrusting or infilling materials, the tectonic body becomes both the ornament and the structure simultaneously. As the art of framing construction is based on material construction rather than structural or ornamental form, this paper proposes that one can view tectonics as a term that conveys the meaning of the actual material effect on space.

New design concept and damage assessment of large-scale cooling towers

  • The motivation of this paper is to introduce the modern technology of large-scale cooling tower design. Thereby the innovative design concept for the world's largest cooling tower with a height of 200 m is briefly presented (Harte & Kr$\ddot{a}$tzig 2002, Bush et al. 2002). The new concept was considered not only for safety, but also for preservation of the durability of the structure, because cracking damage in large cooling towers in general cause extremely high cost of maintenance and repair. The paper demonstrates numerically the damage process in large cooling towers (Kr$\ddot{a}$tzig et al. 2001), and describes some basics of the numerical finite element approach for damage propagation modelling of shell structure. A prototype is analysed to trace the progressive damage process, whereby the changes in the dynamical behaviour of the structure, as mirrored in its natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes, are presented and discussed. Finally, the example shows that such damage processes develop progressively over the life-time of the shell structure.

FCA 개념 망에 기반을 둔 적응형 학습 시스템 (Adaptive Learning System based on the Concept Lattice of Formal Concept Analysis)

  • 지식기반 환경의 변화와 더불어 이-러닝은 매우 보편화된 교수.학습 방법의 하나가 되었으며, 이와 관련한 여러 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 이-러닝의 주요 연구 분야 중의 하나는 학습자의 다양한 상황들을 반영하여 학습자 개개인의 특징에 맞게 학습내용을 지원하기 위한 적응형 학습 시스템에 관한 연구이다. 이와 관련하여 최근에는 적응적 학습내용을 보다 효과적으로 지원하기 위하여 온톨로지를 기반으로 한 적응형 학습 시스템에 대한 연구들이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 FCA의 개념 망을 기반으로 온톨로지의 접근 방법과 목적은 같이하지만, 특정 영역의 학습에 적합한 사용자가 보다 자유롭고 쉽게 자신의 적응형 학습 시스템을 구축하여 사용할 수 있는 적응형 학습 시스템을 설계하여 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 학습영역에 존재하는 학습객체와 학습개념들 사이의 연관 관계에 따라 이들을 개념 망 구조 안에 자동으로 계층화한다. 또한 학습자의 지식수준, 학습선호도, 학습스타일 및 학습개념의 학습상태에 따라 개념 망 학습구조를 적응적으로 구성하여 제시한다.

Coop Himmelblau의 ‘열린 공간’ 개념에 관한 연구 (A Study on the concept of 'Open space' in Coop Himmelblau's)

  • A purpose of this study is to comprehend a concept of 'Open Space', realization of a deconstruction, presented in his works, based on a deconstruction and surrealism Coop Himmelblau's philosophical contemplation and to look into how this concept is interpreted in spaces. A concept of 'Open Space' is functioned as not a singular meaning but a multiple meaning accompanied with other formative ingredient and contemplation, scientific paradigm and a realation with a surroundings. The concept of 'Open Space' in their architentural space is applied. First, the space openness that represents to the extreme a concept 'Open Space', as a 3D designing ways that demolishes a structure and outgrows an ex siting thinking pattern, represents multiple grade spaces and an anti-gravity space. In a material, using glass and iron provides a spacial transparency and through this, visibly liberal sense that an interior and exterior is felt as an unification. Second, an non-expressive box pattern repulses to a spatial rank nature, outgrowing an uniform geometrical system, through demolishing a geometrical system, an edge and fold pattern. This is, as an anti-gravity, dynamic a typical structure, outgrowing an orthogonal system, interpreted as a composite meaning without division in spatial area. Third, the collage is used to represent a complexity and pluralism in representing 'Open space'. The collage that forms a image through combining a fragmentary elements into being a space change, composite constitution and spatial amusement. Thus, It is worthwhile to study how the collage that forms a diverse shape will be developed making what impact as an age and surroundings changed. As we contemplate in former part, Coop Himmelblou has deployed 'deconstruction beyond deconstruction' realm as just their midterm concept in their works like the words 'The architecture must climb', the deconstructive architect. A studying for their works reflecting the 'Open Space' concept based on deconstruction must be lasted and this enables us to comprehend space concept containing an architecture and interior design.

현대 경관 의미에서 조명해 본 한국의 전통경관 -곡과 선을 중심으로- (A Study on the Korean Traditional Landscape in the View of the Meaning of Contemporary Landscape)

  • This paper is studied on the korean traditional landscape in the view of the meaning of the contemporary landscape. The landscape architecture is expanding in the various research field of landscape. The seven concept of landscape can be divided as a regional concept, a land- form concept, an ecological concept, a land use concept, a heritage concept, a scenery concept, and a park and garden concept. This paper is deal with 985 kyoung(景) in 104 places and 16 Gok(曲) in 16 places as the korean traditional landscape. The object of landscape is generally focus on a reality as well as an unreality. In kyoung and Gok, the landscape is organized as an order of a small universe. The expression of the structure of korean traditional landscape is the fifth dimensional space which is organized by the third dimensional space with a time, an image and a feeling.

  • Intelligent Content is defined as detailed information or fragment of content which contains a semantic data structure. This semantic structure makes possible to do various intelligent operations. There are wide range of content-oriented applications such as classification, retrieval, extraction, translation, presentation and question-answering. The concept of Intelligent Content is applied to various fields like MPEG and Semantic Web.   • The objective of this study is to examine the specific progress in modern architecture with a premise that structure-oriented paradigm, as a primary factor, exerts a strong impacts on 18th and 19th centuries architecture. For this purpose, the concept and meaning backgrounds of structure-oriented paradigm have been checked also intrinsic thought s and critical aspects of modern architecture with the light of structure-oriented paradigm have been studied, This study summarized as follows: 1) The concept of structure-oriented paradigm in accordance with ideologies and technologies is framework of through which is shared as collective consciousness. 2) The backdrops of this consciousness are scientific methodologies stemmed from Renaissance and Enlightenment spiritual absoluteness claimed by German Idealists developed structural engineering with newly introduced material like iron steel and reinforced concrete. 3) The intrinsic through in architectural theories are rational and technological idelolgies which is derived from the backdrops of structure-oriented paradigm. 4)The critical sapects of modern architecture in structure-oriented paradigm point of view are $\circled1$ material alteration and directive imitation of vocabularies in classical architecture with simply using newly introduced building material and structure systems $\circled2$ morphological substitution with abstractly interpreted materials and structure systems $\circled3$ revolutionary conversion into engineering architecture through maximum consideration in compliance with tectonics capabilities
