  • This paper presents a goal-programming (GP) model for management decision-making for sugarcane fertilizer mix problems. Sensitivity analysis on the priority structure of the goals has been performed to obtain all possible solutions. The study uses Euclidean distance function to measure distances of all possible solutions from the ideal solution. The optimum solution is determined from the minimum distance between the ideal solution and other possible solutions of the problem. The optimum solution corresponds to the appropriate priority structure of the problem in the decision-making context. furthermore, the results obtained from sensitivity analysis on the cost of combination of fertilizers confirm the priority structure.

  • Structured modeling provides a formal mathematical framework, language, and computer-based environment for conceiving, representing, and manipulating a wide variety of models. It provides a natural framework for integrated modeling owing to its explicit representation power for computational dependencies among submodels. Nevertheless, it doesn't seem to offer a systematic way of composing a structured model from submodels. In order to develop a systematic way, this paper discusses three key issues; (1) Genus structure of validated submodel, (2) Storing method of genus structure, and (3) Integration of genus structures to generate a new genus structure. To visualize the approach, a programming module is developed to implement the step-by-step integration.

  • This study was conducted to report background, organism and activities of Greenspace Scotland, which was established for creation and management of green environment in urban Scotland, UK, and to help discussing an efficient structure for green environmental management in future Japan. As a result, it was confirmed that Greenspace Scotland plays a key role to develop and offer the framework - structure of partnership - for creating, regenerating and managing green environment from a large-scale point of view. Rich varieties of projects, which are difficult to manage by individual organization, have been brought to realization through circulating national funds and policies among local communities in partnership with existing charities and voluntary sector keeping their identity and independence. Greenspace Scotland also put stress on the aspects of social, cultural and economic regeneration in urban communities, and emphasizes a partnership development for above purposes.

  • Although the area of information security planning and management has gained an increased attention, not much discussion was available on the role and the impact of the board members towards a firm's security management and governance decisions. In this research, we draw on corporate governance and the organizational demography literature to conduct an exploratory empirical study on the association between the board structure of a firm and the possibility of information security breaches. Our results show that the board size, the average age/tenure and the heterogeneity of age could reduce the possibility of security breaches while the proportion of independent directors and the heterogeneity of tenure could increase it. Our findings shed lights on the important role played by the board when managing information security risks in organizations.

  • In this paper, we shall construct a ridge estimator in a multiple linear model with the correlated error structure. The existence of the biasing parameter satisfying the Mean Squared Error Criterion is also proved. Furthermore, we shall determine the value of shrinkage factors by the iteration method.

  • The ordering method is used to reduce the fill-ins in interior point methods. In ordering, the data structure plays an important role. In this paper, first, we compare the efficiency and the memory storage requirement of the quotient graph structure and the clique storage. Next, we propose a method of reducing the number of cliques and a data structure for clique storage. Finally, we apply a method of merging rows and absorbing cliques and show the experimental results.

  • The ant colony optimization (ACO) is a metaheuristic inspired by the behavior of real ants. Recently, ACO has been widely used to solve the difficult combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, we propose an ACO algorithm to solve the two disjoint paths problem with dual link cost structure (TDPDCP). We propose a dual pheromone structure and a procedure for solution construction which is appropriate for the TDPDCP. Computational comparisons with the state-of-the-arts algorithms are also provided.
