In this paper, we investigate the correlation between the radial ultraviolet color distribution and the shapes of the ultraviolet isophote for elliptical galaxies (M32, NGC 1399) and spiral bulges (of M31, M81) by using their archival UIT images. For M31, M81, and NGC 1399, the radial ultraviolet color distributions show a two-component trend; as the distance from the galactic center increase the color becomes redder in the inner region while it becomes bluer in the outer region. On the other hand, the color of M32 continues to become bluer with the increasing galactocentric distance. We also find, unlike the optical/IR images, significant variations of the position angle and the ellipticity in the ultraviolet isophotes of M31, M81, and NGC 1399 through the inner regions. For M32, the variation is significant in the outer region. Since these variation implies the triaxiality of their intrinsic shapes, we suggest that the early-type galaxies and spiral bulges with a radial color gradient in ultraviolet tend to have a triaxiality. On the other hand, the shape parameter characterized by the fourth order cosine Fourier coefficient of the isophote, a(4)/a, indicates that the systematic deviations of the ultraviolet isophotes of the four galaxies are smaller than $\~0.2\%$ in units of the semi-major axis. The latter result implies that the ultraviolet isophotes of the galaxies have a pure elliptical shape rather than the boxy or disky shapes. Therefore, there is no clear evidence of correlation between the radial ultra-violet color gradient and the boxy/disky shapes of isophotes.
In this research, we focused on the improvement of cy3 dye's characteristics for LCD color filter. Solubility and thermal stability are main characteristics of dyes for LCD color filter. We performed experiment to change counter cation of cy3 dyes with alkoxy substituent for these purposes. These cy3 dyes (1b~5b) were prepared through the synthetic procedure of three steps. The synthesized new cy3 dyes were charaterized by using NMR, FT-IR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and TGA. These cy3 dyes showed purple color and maximum absorption wavelength (${\lambda}_{max}$) in the range of 578~590 nm in UV/Vis spectrum. We confirmed that solubility and thermal stability of cy3 dyes were dependent on the structure of counter cation. Cy3 dyes with alkoxy substituent have good solubility in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, methanol, and acetone. Especially, Cy3 dye with 4-nitrobenzyl counter cation (5b) gave excellent solubility characteristics.
In this study, the new color image processing algorithms with an android-based mobile device are developed to detect the abnormal color densities in a skin image and interpret them as the vitiligo lesions. Our proposed method is firstly based on transforming RGB data into HSI domain and segmenting the imag into the vitiligo-skin candidates by applying Otsu's threshold algorithm. The structure elements for morphological image processing are suggested to delete the spurious regions in vitiligo regions and the image blob labeling algorithm is applied to compare RGB color densities of the abnormal skin region with them of a region of interest. Our suggested color image processing algorithms are implemented with an android-platform smartphone and thus a mobile device can be utilized to diagnose or monitor the patient's skin conditions under the environments of pervasive healthcare services.
To improve the color gamut of a liquid-crystal display (LCD), we propose a bandpass filter that is added to the backlight unit to optimize the backlight spectrum. The bandpass filter can only transmit red, green and blue light in the visible range, while reflecting the unwanted light. We study the optical properties of the bandpass filter using the transfer-matrix method, and the effect of the bandpass filter on the color gamuts of LCDs is also investigated. When a bandpass filter based on a 5-layer configuration comprising low and high refractive indices ((HL)2H) is used in phosphor-converted white-light-emitting diode (pc-WLED), K2SiF6:Mn4+ (KSF-LED), and quantum-dot (QD) backlights, the color gamuts of the LCDs improve from 72% to 95.3% of NTSC, from 92% to 106.7% of NTSC, and from 104.3% to 112.2% of NTSC respectively. When the incident angle of light increases to 30°, the color gamuts of LCDs with pc-WLED and KSF-LED backlights decrease by 2.9% and 1% respectively. For the QD backlight, the color gamut almost does not change. When the (HL)2H structure is coated on the diffusion film, the color gamut can be improved to 92.6% of NTSC (pc-WLED), 105.6% of NTSC (KSF-LED), and 111.9% of NTSC (QD). The diffusion film has no obvious effect on the color gamut. The results have an important potential application in wide-color-gamut LCDs.
Anthocyanins are considered one of the main color determinants in aged red wine. The anthocyanins in aged red wine made from 'Cabernet Gernischet' (Vitis vinifera L. cv.) grape were investigated by high performance liquid chromatography- electronic spray ionization- mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS) and their color presented in aqueous solution were evaluated using partial least square regression (PLS). The results showed that there were 37 anthocyanins identified in this wine, including 22 pyranoanthocyanins. The analysis of PLS indicated that different anthocyanins showed distinct color values: malvidin 3-O-(6-O-acetyl)-glucoside-4-vinylguaiacol (Mv3-acet-glu-vg) presented the highest color values, while malvidin 3-O-glucoside (Mv3-glu) showed least. Among the free non-acylated anthocyanins, peonidin 3-O-oglucoside (Pn3-glu) showed the highest color values; the coumarylated anthocyanins presented higher color values than their corresponding acetylated anthocyanins and parent anthocyanins; pyranoanthocyanins presented also higher color values than their original anthocyanins; the color of anthocyanins depended on their structure. This work will be helpful to reveal evolution in aged red wine.
Currently, yellow phosphor of Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ (YAG:Ce) fluorescent material is applied to a 450~480nm blue LED light source to implement a white LED device and it has a simple structure, can obtain sufficient luminance, and is economical. However, in this method, in terms of spectrum analysis, it is difficult to mass-produce white LEDs having the same color coordinates due to color separation cause by the wide wavelength gap between blue and yellow band. There is a disadvantage that it is difficult to control optical properties such as color stability and color rendering. In addition, this method does not emit purple light in the range of 380 to 420nm, so it is white without purple color that can not implement the spectrum of the entire visible light spectrum as like sunlight. Because of this, it is difficult to implement a color rendering index(CRI) of 90 or higher, and natural light characteristics such as sunlight can not be expected. For this, need for a method of implementing sunlight with one LED by using a method of combining phosphors with one light source, rather than a method of combining red, blue, and yellow LEDs. Using this method, the characteristics of an artificial sunlight LED device with a spectrum similar to that of sunlight were demonstrated by implementing LED devices of various color temperatures with high color rendering by injecting phosphors into a 405nm deep blue LED light source. In order to find the spectrum closest to sunlight, different combinations of phosphors were repeatedly fabricated and tested. In addition, reliability and mass productivity were verified through temperature and humidity tests and ink penetration tests.

A new blue light emitting anthracene derivative, 9,10-bis-(9',9'-diethyl-7'-t-butyl-fluoren-2'-yl)anthracene (BETF), has been designed and synthesized by a palladium catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling. A theoretical calculation of the three-dimensional structure of BETF supports that it has a non coplanar structure and inhibited intermolecular interactions resulting in high luminescent efficiency and high color purity. BETF has good thermal stability with glass-transition temperature (Tg) of $131^{\circ}C$. The PL maximum of BETF in solution and film were 438 nm and 440 nm, respectively, showing pure blue emission. A multilayer device using BETF as emitting material exhibits maximum luminescence efficiency of 2.2 cd/A and a pure blue emission (Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of x = 0.15, y = 0.10).
The study assessed the quality characteristics of Sulgiddeok with self-made and commercially-available rice flours during a 1-day storage at ambient temperature($20\sim22^{\circ}C$). The nutritional components, color value, physical tests, internal structure as revealed by scanning electron microscopy SEM, and sensory evaluation of Sulgiddeok were determined. Sulgiddeok prepared with self-made rice flour and two commercial rice flour were designated as sample A, B, and C, respectively. Moisture content, crude protein, crude lipid, and pH did not differ significantly among the preparations. Sweetness was highest in sample B(p<0.01) and crude ash was highest in sample A(p<0.001). L color, a value, and b value was highest in sample B, C, and C, respectively. Texture property analysis showed that hardness, gumminess, and chewiness tended to decrease during the 1-day storage, while adhesiveness, springiness, and cohesiveness tended to increase. Sensory characteristics of color, flavor, chewiness, gumminess, externals, and overall quality of sample A were superior to samples B and C. However, softness was highest in sample B. The internal structure of Sulgiddeok was preserved in sample A. It is concluded that rice flour B can make Sulgiddeok comparable to that prepared using self-made rice flour.
The purpose of this study is to elucidate how two young children understand force in rough-and-tumble play. For this purpose, a form of microanalysis(Forman, 2006) was used. They regarded black as the strongest color due to their daily experiences. They assumed that a structure made of black Lego-color-bricks would be strongest and made an experiment of beating it against blocks of other colors. Such repetitive behavior ultimately led them to realize that color had no correlation with strength. They also understood mechanical energy by which a boy's pushing power moves against an object. They tried to strike a bigger or protruding structure and understood that parts might be broken more easily by striking. This experience enabled the boys to realize the principle of resistance. That is to say, in the process of rough-and-tumble play, their misconceptions were gradually removed and they obtained scientific knowledge, including understanding of mechanical energy and the principle of resistance. This study found that two young children constructed knowledge together through the process of tool making and in contending for victory in rough-and-tumble play.
This study examines and analyzes the current status, characteristics and properties of Super-Graphic as a visual element with Super Graphic designed on the wall of apartment housing, typifies them and explains the preference and evaluative structure by each type. The results of this study are as follows: According to color environment of Super-Graphic, N-tone colors are 21.4% and YR-tone colors are 14.5%. In the whole distribution, cold color tone is 41.4% and warm color tone is 37.2%. In the brightness, 72.9% of the entire Super Graphic use high brightness and in the saturation, 51.2% show low saturation, achromatic colors are 21.4% and high saturation is 16.5%. As a result of conducting SD test to analyze the preference of Super-Graphic, 'wonderful' is most negative variable, followed by 'heterogeneous', 'splendid', 'romantic' variety'. Positive variables are 'monotone', 'stable' and 'calm'. As a result of factor analysis to reveal the evaluative structure of Super Graphic image based on the above results, five factors including brightness, saturation, stability, harmony and ordered are extracted and it is considered that these are important variables to be reflected in designing Super Graphic in future.
