Varietal difference in structural and physical characteristics of rice starch and interrelationships between these starch properties and the physicochemical components of rice grains were investigated for twenty four rice varieties, which were considerably different in amylose content, gelatinization temperature and gel consistency, to obtain the basic informations for diversifying the utility of rice grains and for developing various rice cultivars adaptable to rice food processing. Wave length of maximum absorbance for blue color reaction of starch-I$_2$ complex was 520nm for glutinous rice and 560~600nm for nonglutinous rice. The higher amylose rice showed the longer wave length but there was considerable difference of the wave length among rice materials with similar amylose content. Varietal difference in frequency distribution of debranched starch molecules by isoamylase hydrolysis was largest in amylose fraction, the longest fraction(Fr. I), and was next bigger in intermediate fraction(Int.Fr.) and the ratio between short and long glucose chain of amylopectin fraction(Fr. III /Fr. II). The Fr. III / Fr II ratio was higher in glutinous rice than in nonglutinous one but it was considerably different among nonglutinous rice varieties without any connection with amylose content. The lower alkali digestible rice showed the longer half-hydrolysis time in acid solution. Both soft and hard gel rice varieties in gel consistency test revealed significant varietal difference of 50% acid hydrolysis time. The harder rice in gel consistency exhibited the less frequency of short branch fraction of amylopectin (Fr. III) and the higher amylose content. Twenty four rice varieties were cleary classified by upper two principal components contracted from structural or physical traits of rice starch and some physicochemical properties of rice grain by principal component analysis. The 1st and 2nd principal components can be characterized to components related with amylose and amylopectin structure respectively.

In a previous study, the impact factor response spectrum and corresponding method for evaluating the load carrying capacity of bridges was suggested to improve the existing evaluation method. To verify the applicability of the suggested method, which is based on the frequency of bridges, the dynamic characteristic test for an actual single span simply-supported bridge was conducted. Through a field test under ambient traffic conditions, the dynamic response of the bridge was obtained using wireless accelometers and its fundamental frequency was identified. The peak impact factor was determined from the identified frequency and the impact factor response spectrum. The load carrying performance variation of the bridge was estimated considering the performance reduction factor, which was calculated using the current and previous natural frequency and impact factor. From the result, the load carrying capacity of the bridge was decreased, but the capacity was still enough because its value is greater than the design live load. Through the overall procedures and technical details presented in this paper, the suggested evaluation method can be applied to actual bridges with the acceleration data measured under ambient traffic conditions and the impact factor response spectrum.
With a relatively simple quantitative method, this study comprehensively analyzes the characteristics related to business cycles represented by macroeconomic variables of Korea since 1970. This empirical analysis deals with roughly following three topics: How to identify cyclical component with respect to trend; with what characteristics and how the economic variables of each sector move with in the phases of business cycle, and; whether there are signs of a structural change in the phases of business cycle. Section 2 discusses how to identify trends and cycle components, the basis assumption for the analysis of business cycle. Like the Korean economy, where a relatively high growth rate has been maintained, it is appropriate to determine its economic recession based on the fall in the growth trend, not in the absolute level of real output. And, it is necessary to apply the concept of growth cycle against a traditional concept of business cycle. Accordingly the setting of growth trend is of preliminary importance in identifying cyclical fluctuations. The analysis of Korea's GDP data since 1970, the decomposition of trends and cycles through the Band-pass filter is found to appropriately identify the actual phases of busyness cycle. Section 3 analyzes what particular relationship various economic variables have with output fluctuations during the phases of economic cycle, using the corss-correlation coefficients and prediction contribution. Section 4 monitors the stability of the phases of Korea's business cycle and quantitatively verifies whether there is a structural break, and then reviews the characteristics of variations in each sector. And, stylized facts observed through these studies are summarized in the conclusion. The macroeconomic stability of Korea, in particular, is found to continue to improve since 1970, except for the financial crisis period. Not only that, it is found that its volatility of economic growth rate as well as inflation have been reduced gradually. Meanwhile, until recently since 2000, the volatility in domestic demand has remained stable, while that in exports and imports has been increased slightly. But, in an over all perspective, Korea's business cycle variation is on the decline due to shorter response period to shocks and the formation of complementary relationship among economic sectors.

The objective of this study is to propose closed-form solutions to the free vibration response of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems, as part of fundamental research on dynamic systems with Coulomb friction. The motion of a dynamic system with Coulomb friction is described by a nonlinear differential equation, and, due to the variation in the sign of friction force term with the direction of motion, it is difficult to obtain the closed-form solution. To solve this problem, the nonlinear differential equation is directly computed by numerical integration, or an approximated solution is indirectly obtained using a linear differential equation wherein the damping effect due to Coulomb friction is replaced by an equivalent viscous damping term. However, these conventional methods do not provide a closed-form solution from a mathematical point of view. In this regard, closed-form solutions to the free vibration response of SDOF systems with Coulomb friction are derived herein by considering that the sign of the friction force term is reversed in each half-cycle of motion and by expanding it to the entire time history using the power series function. In addition, for a given initial condition, both the number of free vibration half-cycles and the response at the instant when free vibration motion stops are predicted under the condition that the motion of free vibration is stopped when the amplitude of the friction force is higher than that of the restoring force due to stiffness.
We have discussed on the structural transition and its effect on the electrical property of Li-GFDICs and Li-PCDICs occuring during the deintercalation process of Li-Graphite Fiber Intercalation Compounds(Li-GFICs) and Li-Petroleum Cokes Intercalation Compounds(Li-PCDICs) synthesized under pressure and temperature by spontaneous oxidation by air circulation. The analytical results were obtained by X-ray diffraction and electrical specific resistivity measurements. According to X-ray analysis, we have found that the major stage of Li-GFICs was stage 2 and those of Li-PCICs were stage 1 and stage 2, respectively. And from this results of the deintercalation process, we have found that the deintercalation process did not occur any more after 5th week of Li-GFDICs and after 3rd week of Li-PCDICs. According to the results of the electrical specific resistivity measurements, Li-GFDICs showed little variation to 3rd week and rising in the steady curve after 4th week, while Li-PCDICs showed a rising in the steady curve to 3rd week and a declining curve after 3rd week. Therefore from these results, we can consider that graphite fiber and petroleum cokes as a substrate can be also used as an anode material of battery because they have good intercalation-deintercalation reactivity with lithium.
Building energy simulations which are mainly used in Korea have evaluated the building energy performance with the different thermal conductivity of construction materials. In order to evaluate the energy consumption accurately, the difference in thermal conductivity of the wood used in stud for wooden structure was confirmed from the each simulation. In addition, the thermal transmission of building members and the thermal bridge at the conjunction of building members according to thermal conductivity from each simulation programs were researched. The thermal conductivity of pine that has the largest variation among the energy simulations was applied to the thermal properties of studs in wooden structure. The maximum error between the maximum and minimum thermal transmission of roof, wall, and floor slab was $0.023W/m^2{\cdot}K$. Plus, that thermal bridge at Rafter junction on the roof, roof-wall joint, and floor slab-wall joint was $0.025W/m{\cdot}K$. The heat transfer image for changes in temperature and the heat exchange were analyzed by HEAT2 program. The distorted temperature lines were found around the insufficient insulated connection parts. It was predicted that the temperature at the distorted parts in the analyzed image was lower than that of the other portion of the other structures.
We investigated the growth of ZnO thin films with prominent emission characteristics through minimizing the formation of defects by using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). To do so, the ZnO films were deposited on sapphire(0001) substrates at the substrate temperature of $400-850^{\circ}C$ and then the variation of their structural and optical properties were analyzed by x-ray diffraction, atomic force microscope and photoluminescence. As a result, all ZnO films were grown with c-axis preferential orientation irrespective of the substrate temperature. However, the crystallinity and stress state were dependent on the substrate temperature and the ZnO film deposited at $600^{\circ}C$ showed the best surface morphology and crystallinity with nearly no strain. And also this film exhibited outstanding emission characteristics from the viewpoint of full width half maximum of UV emission peak as well as visible emission due to defects. These results indicate that the emission characteristics of the ZnO films are strongly related to their structural characteristics influenced by substrate temperature. Consequently, ZnO films with strong UV emission and nearly no visible emission, which are applicable to UV emission devices, could be grown at the substrate temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ by PLD.

The oversized and slotted holes are frequently required for the built-up in construction sites. The foreign provisions specify the reduction of the slip load subjected to the size of bolt holes and the direction of load. There are no domestic building codes and researches on the bolt holes. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate a change of joint strength quantitatively according to the bolt-hole size and surface condition by means of experiment. This study was conducted to evaluate the slip load subjected to the size of bolt holes, and measured on a change of clamping force of high strength bolts during 168 and 800 hours to analyze the trend of relaxation after fastening bolts. Torque shear bolts defined on KS B 2819 was used for the specimen. Test results exhibit that the variation on the slip load of the others was below 10% by contrast with the standard hole and the highest rate of relaxation was 2.66% of the initial clamping force at the case of the long-slotted hole of 2.5D.

This paper presents an investigation of the mechanical properties on non-sintered cement pastes immersed in sea waters at three different temperatures. The non-sintered cement pastes were synthesized using blended binder(Class F fly ash; FA and ground granulated blast furnace slag; GGBFS) and alkali activator(sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate). Binders were prepared by mixing the FA and GGBFS in different blend weight ratios of 6:4, 7:3 and 8:2. The alkali activators were used 5wt% of blended binder, respectively. Calcium carbonate was used as an chemical additive. The compressive strength, bulk density and absorption of alkali-activated FA-GGBFS blends pastes were measured at 3 and 28 days after immersed in sea waters at three different temperatures($5^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$). The XRD and SEM tests of the pastes were conducted at 28 days. Water-soluble chloride(free chloride) and acid-soluble chloride(total chloride) contents in the pastes were also measured after 28 days immersion in sea water. The experimental results showed that increasing the content of FA in alkali-activated FA-GGBFS blends pastes immersed in sea water increases the absorption, water-soluble chloride content and acid-soluble chloride content, and reduces the compressive strength and bulk density. And it was found that there was a variation of strength change for the alkali-activated FA-GGBFS blends pastes immersed in sea waters at three different temperatures that depends on the blending ratio of FA and GGBFS.

The main source of bridge destruction is due to scour. The bridge scour is the result of erosive action of flowing water taking away ground materials from near the abutment or pier. Furthermore, the water level must be also monitored whiling flooding, because it dangers not only the stability of bridge itself, but the safety of bridge users. This study is intended to develop a new measuring system for bridge scour by overcoming the current limitation of scour measurement technique. This measuring system is confirmed its excellence and validity through this study. The newly developed measuring system finds the distance between the water surface and the ground surface by detecting temperature difference along the abutment vertically. The measuring mechanism for monitoring the bridge scour and water level is based on identifying the temperature difference among mediums, including air, water and ground. In order to validate the new measuring system, the lab experiments and the field tests are conducted and compared. It has been confirmed that this system can effectively measure the bridge scour and the water level by analyzing the temperature distribution between mediums and the temperature variation over time.
