Effects of Pre-Strains on Failure Assessment Analysis to API 5L X65 Pipeline

  • This paper prescribed the structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to tensile pre-strain. The effects of pre-strain on the mechanical properties of API 5L X65 pipe were substantially investigated through a variety of the experimental procedures. Axial tensile pre-strain of 1.5, 5 and 10% was applied to plate-type tensile specimens cut from the pipe body prior to mechanical testing. Tensile test revealed that yield strength and tensile strength were increased with increasing tensile pre-strain. The increasing rate of the yield strength owing to the pre-strain is greater than that of the tensile strength. However, the pre-strain up to 5% had a little effect on the decreasing of the fracture toughness. The structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to large plastic deformation was evaluated through the fitness-for service code.

  • This paper describes the structural design and testing for 1.5kW class wind turbine composite blade. In order to calculate the equivalent material properties rule-of-mixture is applied. Lay-up sequence, ply thickness and ply angle are designed to satisfy the requirements for structural integrity. Structural analysis by using commercial software ABAQUS is performed to assess the static, buckling and vibration response. And to verify the structural analysis and design, the full scale structural test in flapwise direction was performed under single point loading according to loading conditions calculated by the aerodynamic analysis and Case H (Parked wind loading) in IEC 61400-2.

  • 본 논문에서는 구조 시험과 유한요소해석을 통하여 소형 풍력발전용 복합재 블레이드의 구조적 안전성을 평가하였다. 먼저, 선행연구에서 공력해석을 수행하여 정격 및 극한 풍속일 때의 블레이드가 받는 굽힘 모멘트를 산출하였다. 이를 이용하여 소형풍력발전기 관련 국제 규격인 IEC 61400-2에 따른 실규모 구조 시험을 수행하여 구조적 안전성을 평가하였다. 그리고 유한요소법을 이용한 구조 해석을 수행하여 구조 시험 결과와 비교하여 이의 정확성을 판단하였다. 또한, 구조 시험을 통해 블레이드에 대한 과잉 설계가 확인되었으며 이의 해결을 위하여 블레이드의 적층 순서 및 두께를 재선정하여 구조적 안전성을 평가하였다.

  • A series of vibration assessment programs has been performed for Yonggwang Nuclear Power Plant Unit 4 (YGN 4) in order to verify the structural integrity of the reactor internals for flow induced vibration prior to its commercial operation. The structural analysis was done to provide the basis for measurement and the theoretical evidence for the structural integrity of the reactor internals. The actual flow induced hydraulic loads and reactor internals vibration response data were measured and recorded during pre-core hot functional testing of the plant. Then, the measured data have been reduced and analyzed, and compared with the analysis results such as the frequency contents, stresses, strains and displacements. It is concluded that the structural analysis methodology performed for vibration response of the reactor internals due to the flow induced vibration is appropriately conservative, and also that the structural integrity of YGN 4 reactor internals to flow induced vibration is acceptable for long term operation.

유도초음파를 이용한 비파괴탐상 기법 (Nondestructive testing by using guided wave techniques)

  • 유도초음파를 이용하면 배관 및 박판과 같은 파유도체에 대한 광범위한 비파괴탐상을 할 수 있게되어 시간과 경비를 절약할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 그래서 유도초음파를 이해하고 활용하기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 유도초음파가 기존의 체적 초음파와 크게 다른 점은 분산성있어 초음파의 전파속도가 진동수와 파유도체의 두께에 의존한다는 것과 전파 특성이 다른 무한개의 모드가 존재한다는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 박판과 배관에서의 유도초음파를 이해하고 비파괴탐상에 적용하기 위해 필요한 모드의 분산과 선택 그리고 확인에 대해 이론적인 결과와 및 실험적인 예를 제시하여 그 개념을 소개하였다.

  • In the present study, the influence of car body structures to the noise and vibration characteristics has been sought. The numerical modal analysis for the body-in-white is employed to predict the vibratory response of structure, and then followed by the experimental modal testing to confirm the validity of the model. Using the results of numerical simulations with the designated modal parameters, the optimal structural configuration has been deduced. Special interests have been paid to the sensitivity of sound quality to the structural integrity. Since the structural integrity has a close relationship to the structure-born noise, the substantially low frequency range, which is far below the frequency range almost barely sensible by human auditory organ but still quite influential to overall impression, is especially examined. The subjective assessment agrees with the objective evaluation by means of traditional sound measures as well as psychoacoustic metrics.

  • A Comprehensive Vibration Assessment Program (CVAP) has been performed for Yonggwang Nuclear Power Plant Unit 4 (YGN 4) in order to verify the structural integrity of the reactor internals for flow induced vibrations prior to commercial operation. The theoretical evidence for the structural integrity of the reactor internals and the basis for measurement and inspection are provided by the analysis. Flow induced hydraulic loads and reactor internals vibration response data were measured during pre-core hot functional testing in YGN 4 site. Also, the critical areas in the reactor internals were inspected visually to check any existence of structural abnormality before and after the pre-core hot functional testing. Then, the measured data have been analyzed and compared with the predicted data by analysis. The measured stresses are less than the predicted values and the allowable limits. It is concluded that the vibration response of the reactor internals due to the flow induced vibration under normal operation is acceptable for long term operation.

  • 본 논문은 샌드위치 복합재가 적용된 자동무인경전철 차체 구조물의 구조 안전성 및 충돌 안전성 결과에 대해 서술하고 있다. 차체 구조물에 적용된 샌드위치 복합재는 알루미늄 하니컴 심재와 WR580/NF4000 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재 면재로 이루어져 있다. 차체 구조물에 적용되는 적층 복합재 면재에 대해 기계적 시험을 통하여 물성을 획득하였고, 직교 이방성 특성을 갖는 하니컴 심재의 물성은 유효등가손상모델을 적용하였다. ANSYS v11.0을 이용한 유한요소 해석은 JIS E 1105 기준과 ASCE 21-98 기준에 따라서 자동무인경전철 차체의 구조 안전성을 평가하였다. 충돌해석은 외연유한요소 해석 프로그램인 LS-DYNA3D를 이용하였다. 충돌 조건은 강체벽에 10km/h의 속도로 정면충돌 사고를 모사하였다. 또한, 수성된 Chang-Chang 파손기준시은 충돌 후 복합재 구조물의 파손 모드를 평가하는데 추천된다.

  • After the advent of B787(Boeing Co.), a civil aircraft using composite materials more than 50% of it total structural weight for weight savings,best performances and efficiencies, various endeavors to develop and apply the state of art of structural health monitoring(SHM) technologies for composite aircraft have been made for many years. Despite their plentiful advantages composite aircraft structures are susceptible to the hidden or barely visible impact damages(BVID) and excessive loads that if unchecked may lead to lower structural integrity, loss of operational performance and finally a sudden catastrophic failure of the aircraft structure. In this paper background of SHM technology and relevant technologies for application of SHM technology to the composite aircraft in the near future and requirements for certification of SHM system are shortly presented.

  • Emerging sensor-based structural health monitoring (SHM) technology can play an important role in inspecting and securing the safety of aging civil infrastructure, a worldwide problem. However, implementation of SHM in civil infrastructure faces a significant challenge due to the lack of suitable sensors and reliable methods for interpreting sensor data. This paper reviews recent efforts and advances made in addressing this challenge, with example sensor hardware and software developed in the author's research center. It is proposed to integrate real-time continuous monitoring using on structure sensors for global structural integrity evaluation with targeted NDE inspection for local damage assessment.
