This paper presents the section model for analysis of RC circular tower structures based on nonlinear material laws. The governing equations for normal strains due to the bending moment and the normal force are derived in the case when openings are located symmetrically in respect to the bending direction. In this approach the additional reinforcement at openings is also taken into account. The mathematical model is expressed in the form of a set of nonlinear equations which are solved by means of the minimization of the sums of the second powers of the residuals. For minimization the BFGS quasi-Newton and/or Hooke-Jeeves local minimizers suitably modified are applied to take into account the box constraints on variables. The model is verified on the set of data encountered in engineering practice. The numerical examples illustrate the effects of the loading eccentricity and size of the opening on the strains and stresses in concrete and steel in the cross-sections under consideration. Calculated results indicate that the additional reinforcement at the openings increases the resistance capacity of the section by several percent.

Dynamic characteristics of smart hull structure are investigated and active vibration control performance is evaluated. Dynamic model of smart hull structure with surface bonded Macro-fiber Composite (MFC) actuators is established by analytical method. Equations of motion of the host hull structure are derived based on Donnell-Mushtari equilibrium equations for a thin cylindrical shell. A general model for the interaction between hull structure and MFC actuator is included in the dynamic model. Modal analysis is then conducted and mode shapes and corresponding natural frequencies are investigated. After constructing of the optimal control algorithm, active vibration control performance of the proposed system is evaluated. It has been shown that structural vibration can be reduced effectively with proper control input.

In this paper, vibration characteristics of chiral double-walled carbon nanotubes entrenched on Kelvin's model. The Eringen's nonlocal elastic equations are being combined with Kelvin's theory to observe small scale response. A nonlocal model has been formulated to explore the frequency spectrum of chiral double-walled CNTs along with diversity of indices and nonlocal parameter. Wave propagation is proposed technique to establish field equations of model subjected to four distinct end supports. The significance of scale effect in relevance of length-to-diameter and thickness- to- radius ratios are discussed and displayed in detail.

Dynamic load models which show the practical behavior of truss bridge subjected to moving train load are presented. Three basically approaches are available for evaluating structural response to dynamic effects : moving force, moving mass, and influence moving force and mass. Simple warren truss bridge model is selected in this research, and idealized lumped mass system, modelled as a planar structure. In the process of dynamic analysis, the uncoupled equation of motion is derived from simultaneous equation of the motion of truss bridge and moving train load. The solution of the uncoupled equations of motion is solved by Newmark-$\beta$ method. The results show that dynamic response of moving mass and static analysis considering the impact factor specified in the present railway bridge code was nearly the same. Generally, the dynamic response of moving force is somewhat greater than that of moving mass. The dynamic load models which are presented by this study are obtained relatively adequate load model when apply to a truss bridge.

The analysis of structures may be classified into three categories: theoretical, numerical, and experimental approaches. The numerical and experimental methods are very useful when the structures to be analyzed have complicated shapes or geometry because theoretical methods are restricted to simple and special cases. However, the theoretical methods are very important analysis in the viewpoint that they can give basic insight for the structural behavior. Among them the modal model method is widely used because of the powerful propertiy of eigenfunctions(mode shapes), or orthogonality. In this paper, the modal model method was reviewed and studied for various models for structures: string, beam, membrane, and plate. Governing equations and solution methods were compared and a structural-acoustic coupling system was used for an application.

In a high speed and high precision vertical machining center, chatter vibration is easily generated due to unbalanced masses in rotating parts and changtes of cutting forces. In this paper, modal test is performed to obtain modal parameters of the vertical machining center. In order to predit the cutting force of endmilling process for various cutting conditions, a mathematical model is given and this model is based on chip load, cutting geometry, and relationship between cutting forces and the chip load. Specific cutting constants of the model are obtained by averaging forces of cutting tests. The interactions between the dy- namic characteristics and cutting dynamics of the vertical machining center make the primary and the secondary feedback loops, and we make use of the equations of system to predict the chatter vibration. The chatter prediction is formulated as linear differential-differene equations, and simulated for several cases. Trends of vibration as radial and axial depths of cut are changed are shown and compared.
Complex structures are usually assembled from several substructures with joints connecting them together. These joints have significant effects on the dynamic behavior of the assembled structure and must be accurately modeled. In structural analysis, these joints are often simplified by assuming ideal boundary conditions. However, the dynamic behavior predicted on the basis of the simplified model may have significant errors. This has prompted the researchers to include the effect of joint stiffness in the structural model and to estimate the stiffness parameters using inverse dynamics. In the present work, structural joints have been modeled as a pair of translational and rotational springs and frequency equation of the overall system has been developed using sub-structure synthesis. It is shown that using first few natural frequencies of the system, one can obtain a set of over-determined system of equations involving the unknown stiffness parameters. Method of multi-linear regression is then applied to obtain the best estimate of the unknown stiffness parameters. The estimation procedure has been developed for a two parameter joint stiffness matrix.
In this study, strength reduction factors and inelastic displacement ratios are investigated for SDOF systems with period range of 0.1-3.0 s considering soil structure interaction for earthquake motions recorded on soft soil. The effect of stiffness degradation on strength reduction factors and inelastic displacement ratios is investigated. The modified-Clough model is used to represent structures that exhibit significant stiffness degradation when subjected to reverse cyclic loading and the elastoplastic model is used to represent non-degrading structures. The effect of negative strain - hardening on the inelastic displacement and strength of structures is also investigated. Soil structure interacting systems are modeled and analyzed with effective period, effective damping and effective ductility values differing from fixed-base case. For inelastic time history analyses, Newmark method for step by step time integration was adapted in an in-house computer program. New equations are proposed for strength reduction factor and inelastic displacement ratio of interacting system as a function of structural period($\tilde{T}$, T) ductility (${\mu}$) and period lengthening ratio ($\tilde{T}$/T).
The estimation procedure has been developed first for a two parameter joint model and then for a three parameter model, in which cross coupling terms are also included. Two cases of structural connections have been considered, first with a cantilever beam with support flexibility and then a pair of beams connected through lap joint. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through numerical simulation and by experimentation.
