  • When a load such as the mechanical load, the wind load, and the seismic load causing a vibration, acts on the body of the 3-D frameworks with slab, it is required to consider the dynamic behavior of elastic soil as well as that of 3-D structure in the structural analysis. Thus, this study presents the analysis of dynamic behavior using finite element method that is formulated by using a model of the 3-D structure. For the idealization of the actual structure closely into a geometric shape, plate is subdivided into 4-node plate element with the flexibility, beam-column is subdivided into 2-node beam element, and elastic soil is subdivided into 8-node brick element.

  • The Statistical Energy Analysis is based on the power flow and the energy conservation between sub-systems, which enable the prediction of acoustic and structural vibration behavior in mid-high frequency ranges. This paper discusses the identification of SEA coupling loss factor parameters from experimental measurements of small reverberation chamber sound pressure levels and structural accelerations. As structural subsystems, steel plates with and without damping treatment are considered. Calculated CLFs were verified by both transmission loss values for air-borne CLF case and running SEA commercial software As a result, CLFs have shown a good agreement with those computed by software. Acoustical behavior of air-borne noise and structure-borne noise has been examined. which shows reasonable results, too.

  • Phayathonzu temple in Myanmar was made of masonry bricks, and so it was vulnerable to lateral load such as earthquake. Especially, it has many difficulties in structural modeling and dynamic analysis because the discontinuous characteristics of masonry structure should be considered. So, it is necessary to provide the seismic performance evaluation technology through the inelastic dynamic modeling and analysis under earthquake loads for the safety security of masonry brick temple. Therefore, this study analyzes the seismic behavior characteristics and evaluates the seismic performance for the 479 structure with many cracks and deformations. Through the evaluation results, we found out the structural weak parts on earthquake loads.

  • This study was designed to construct a structural model for health promoting behavior of patients with chronic disease. The hypothetical model was developed based on the literature review and Pender's health promotion model. Method: Data was collected by questionnaires from 1748 patients with chronic disease in General Hospital from December 1999 to July 2000 in Seoul. The disease of subject were cardiac disease included hypertension peptic ulcer, pulmonary disease included COPD and asthma, DM, and chronic kidney disease. Data analysis was done with SAS 6.12 for descriptive statistics and PC-LISREL 8.13 Program for Covariance structural analysis. Results: 1. The fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate, it was modified by excluding 4 path and including free parameters to it. The modified model with path showed a good fitness to the empirical data (χ2=591.83, p<.0001, GFI=0.97, AGFI= 0.94, NNFI=0.95, RMSR=0.01, RMSEA=0.05). 2. The perceived benefits, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, self- esteem, and the plan for action were found to have significant direct effect on health promoting behavior of chronic disease. 3. The health concept, health perception, emotional state, social support were found to have indirect effects on health promoting behavior of chronic disease. Conclusion: The derived model in this study is considered appropriate in explaining and predicting health promoting behavior of patients with chronic disease. Therefore, it can effectively be used as a reference model for further studies and suggested implication in nursing practice.

  • The interaction between steel tube and concrete core is the key issue for understanding the behavior of concrete-filled steel tube columns (CFTs). This study investigates the force transfer by natural bond or by mechanical shear connectors and the interaction between the steel tube and the concrete core under three types of loading. Two and three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models are developed to study the force transfer between steel tube and concrete core. The nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS is used. Material and geometric nonlinearities of concrete and steel are considered in the analysis. The damage plasticity model provided by ABAQUS is used to simulate the concrete material behavior. Comparisons between the finite element analyses and own experimental results are made to verify the finite element models. A good agreement is observed between the numerical and experimental results. Parametric studies using the numerical models are performed to investigate the effects of diameterto-thickness ratio, uniaxial compressive strength of concrete, length of shear connectors, and the tensile strength of shear connectors.

  • To ensure safety and long term performance, structural control has rapidly matured over the past decade into a viable means of limiting structural responses to strong winds and earthquakes. Nonlinear response history analysis requires rigorous procedure to compute seismic demands. Therefore the simplified nonlinear analysis procedures are useful to determine performance of the structure. In this investigation, application of improved capacity demand diagram method in the control of structural system is presented for the first time. Developed pole assignment method (DPAM) in structural systems control is introduced. Genetic algorithm (GA) is employed as an optimization tool for minimizing a target function that defines values of coefficient matrices providing the placement of actuators and optimal control forces. The ground acceleration is modified under induced control forces. Due to this, performance of structure based on improved nonlinear demand diagram is selected to threshold of nonlinear behavior of structure. With small energy consumption characteristics, semi-active devices are especially attractive solutions for limiting earthquake effects. To illustrate the efficiency of DPAM, a 30-story steel moment frame structure employing the semi-active control devices is applied. In comparison to the widely used linear quadratic regulation (LQR), the DPAM controller was shown to be just as effective and better in the reduction of structural responses during large earthquakes.

  • This study analyzes the structural relationships among communication pattern of leader, followers' trust in leader, organizational commitment and innovative behavior. In order to analyze hypotheses, the survey was collected by distributing questionnaire to 250 workers in small and medium-sized companies. As a result, total 213 workers participated in the survey and their rates were included for the test process. The collected data analyzed structural equation modeling, a statistical program. The results of this study are as follows; First, supportive and reflective communication pattern of leader have meaningful positive influences on followers'trust in leader. Directive communication pattern of leader, by contrast, is negatively related to followers'trust in leader. Second, followers'trust in leader has a positive impact on organizational commitment. Third, organizational commitment has a positive effect on followers'innovative behavior. Based on these results, it can be said that followers'trust in leader is more important for boosting organizational commitment and innovative behavior because it has a positive effect on organizational commitment with supportive or reflective communication behavior of leader. Therefore, this study proposes practical benefits to leaders regarding how to display communication process and trust quality more effectively. Future studies are required to investigate the research agendas on the issues between communication patterns and innovative behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the causal relationships among fish consumption behavior, attitude towards fish eating, health involvement, perceived convenience, and age. A total of 235 questionnaires were completed. A structural equation model was used to measure the causal effects of the constructs. The results of the study demonstrated that the structural analysis results were an excellent model fit for the data. The influence of age on attitude towards fish eating, health involvement, and perceived convenience was statistically significant. As expected, attitude towards fish eating, health involvement, and perceived convenience had significant effects on fish consumption behavior. Moreover, age had a significant indirect effect on fish consumption behavior through health involvement. Age also had a significant indirect effect on fish consumption behavior through perceived convenience. By developing and testing conceptual models that integrate the relationships among age, psychological variables, and fish consumption behavior, this study may offer a deeper understanding of the complex relationships among the variables. A greater understanding of these complex relationships can improve the managerial diagnoses of problems and the opportunities for different marketing strategies, including product development and marketing communications.
