The main objective of this article is the exploitation of a stochastic hybrid mesh-free method based on stochastic generalized finite difference (SGFD), Newmark finite difference (NFD) methods and Monte Carlo simulation for thermoelastic wave propagation and coupled thermoelasticity analysis based on GN theory (without energy dissipation). A thick hollow cylinder with Gaussian uncertainty in mechanical properties is considered as an analyzed domain for the problem. The effects of uncertainty in mechanical properties with various coefficients of variations on thermo-elastic wave propagation are studied in details. Also, the time histories and distribution on thickness of cylinder of maximum, mean and variance values of temperature and radial displacement are studied for various coefficients of variations (COVs).
This study investigates effect of uncertainty in natural vibration period on the seismic demand. It is shown that since this uncertainty affects the acceleration and displacement responses differently, two ratios, one relating peak acceleration responses and the other relating the peak displacement responses, are not equal and both must be employed in evaluating and defining the critical seismic demand. The evaluation of the ratios is carried out using more than 200 strong ground motion records. The results suggest that the uncertainty in the natural vibration period impacts significantly the statistics of the ratios relating the peak responses. By using the statistics of the ratios, a procedure and sets of empirical equations are developed for estimating the probability consistent seismic demand for both linear and nonlinear systems.

THis study examines a contingency relationship between task uncertainty and structure of project teams in conjunction with the leader-member communication patterns. Multivariate analyses are used to analyze the data from 63 R & D project teams of research laboratory in a large manufacturing corporation. Major findings for this study can be summarized as follows. First, project teams with an organic structure are found to yield high performance when task uncertainty is high, while project teams with a mechanistic structure achieve high performance when their tasks are relatively certain. Second, patterns of leader-member comunication are significantly associated with both task uncertainty and structural characteristics of project teams. This implies that leaders of project teams communicate with their members in more conslutative manner when their tasks are uncertain or when their team structure exhibits organic characteristics. Finally, task uncertainty playus a significant moderating role in the relationship between consultative communication patterns and performance of project teams. Based upon these findings, this study offers several theoretical, practical, and methodological implications.

The military communication equipment is required the high reliability for operating adequate functions under severe conditions. This reliability is the essential element for the quality of the product, for the uncontrolled factors, such as the clearance, damage of the material, the reduction of stiffness, which are the designer is unable to handle. In this paper, the uncertainty for the design was supposed to the probability model for the military communication equipment, and the average of the objective function was minimized for reducing design uncertainty. The reliability-based design optimization which was implemented the limit state function was formulated into the mathematical model, so the reliable optimized structure was implemented than the base-line design.

Splitting tensile strength (STS) is a respectable mechanical property reflecting ability of the concrete. The STS of concrete is mainly related to compressive strength (CS), water/binder (W/B) ratio and concrete age. In this study, the assessment of STS is made by a novel uncertainty-oriented method which uses least square optimization and then predicts STS of concrete by uncertain (fuzzy) numbers. The approximation method addresses a novel integration of fuzzy set theory and multivariate statistics. The numerical examples showed that the method is applicable with relatively limited data. In addition, the prediction of uncertainty at various levels of possibility can be described. In conclusion, the uncertainty-oriented interval analysis can be suggested an effective tool for appraising the uncertainties in concrete technology.
This paper investigates the simultaneous use of mixed H2/H_inf and mu-synthesis design methodology to design a robust controller for flexible link. We adopt four steps to design control system as follows: Step 1 : Generally, there are differences between the nominal and real model, so we consider the plant as a combination of parametric model uncertainty and unstructured uncertainty represents real structural uncertainties associated with the damping ratios of the flexible modes retained in the nominal model without payload. denotes the uncertainty which is due to the payload added at the tip. Step 2 : We adopt the mixed H2/H_inf theory to design a feedback controller K(s) by using the model uncertainty ...
There is a growing trend of considering uncertainty in optimization process since last few decades. In this regard, Robust Design Optimization (RDO) scheme has gained increasing momentum because of its virtue of improving performance of structure by minimizing the variation of performance and ensuring necessary safety and feasibility of constraint under uncertainty. In the present study, RDO of reinforced concrete folded plate and shell structure has been carried out incorporating uncertainty in the relevant parameters by Monte Carlo Simulation. Folded plate and shell structures are among the new generation popular structures often used in aesthetically appealing constructions. However, RDO study of such important structures is observed to be scarce. The optimization problem is formulated as cost minimization problem subjected to the force and displacements constraints considering dead, live and wind load. Then, the RDO is framed by simultaneously optimizing the expected value and the variation of the performance function using weighted sum approach. The robustness in constraint is ensured by adding suitable penalty term and through a target reliability index. The RDO problem is solved by Sequential Quadratic Programming. Subsequently, the results of the RDO are compared with conventional deterministic design approach. The parametric study implies that robust designs can be achieved by sacrificing only small increment in initial cost, but at the same time, considerable quality and guarantee of the structural behaviour can be ensured by the RDO solutions.

Socially, organizations are required to effectively manage their information resources, both in terms of acquiring information from external sources and safeguarding against potential breaches by insiders. While information security policies and technologies implemented by organizations contribute to achieving internal security, an overly complex or disorganized security structure can create uncertainty among employees. In this study, we identify factors of structural information security (IS)-related uncertainty within organizations and propose that they contribute to non-compliance. We develop a research model and hypotheses based on previous studies on the information security environment and test these hypotheses using structural equation modeling. Our findings indicate that uncertainties related to IS policy, technology, and communication decrease employees' IS role identity and their intention to comply with IS measures. By addressing these uncertainties, organizations can improve their IS environment and work towards achieving there is goals.

Epistemic uncertainty, the lack of knowledge, is often more important than aleatory uncertainty, variability, in estimating reliability of a system. While the probability theory is widely used for modeling aleatory uncertainty, there is no dominant approach to model epistemic uncertainty. Different approaches have been developed to handle epistemic uncertainties using various theories, such as probability theory, fuzzy sets, evidence theory and possibility theory. However, since these methods are developed from different statistics theories, it is difficult to interpret the result from one method to the other. The goal of this paper is to compare different methods in handling epistemic uncertainty in the view point of calculating the probability of failure. In particular, four different methods are compared; the probability method, the combined distribution method, interval analysis method, and the evidence theory. Characteristics of individual methods are compared in the view point of reliability analysis.
This paper examines the effects of environmental uncertainty, structural decentralization, formalization, complexity and task interdependence on the information sharing through information system. 197 firms in Korea are surveyed and analyzed to investigate the relationship between the contextual variables and the information sharing. The result of multiple regression analysis shows that task interdependence, structural decentralization, complexity are significant factors to influence on the Information Sharing. Also, additional analysis shows that task interdependence, structural decentralization are major factors in service industry, and task interdependence, structural complexity are in manufacturing industry.
