The purpose of this study was to seek strengths and weaknesses from analyzing Korea and U.S. science textbooks in terms of general structural features, contents, cognitive levels of questions and the purpose of questions used in science textbooks. This provided insight into improvement of textbooks that can effectively assist teaching and learning. To investigate organization of unit in textbooks in-depth, the evolution unit was selected and scrutinized as one example. The results showed that the number of pages, activities, vocabulary words, and vocabulary lists are considerably different between Korean and the U.S. Commonly, U.S. textbooks were more laden with information and lacking in coherence than those of the Korean textbooks. The findings on the cognitive levels of questions showed that the majority of questions in both nations are concerned with knowledge. However, the difference between the two nations is great in the ratios of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation questions. Questions are concentrated in review section (45% of Korean and 60.6% of U.S.) in textbooks. It suggested that well-planned questions in a review section can provide the basic guidance for strength in a science classroom.

An efficient method for determining forced responses of a general linear structural system in time domain using subtructure modes and Lagrange multipliers is presented. Compared with the conventional mode synthesis methods, the suggested method does not construct the equations of motion of the combined whole structure and thus the modal parameters of the whole structure are not required. Only modal parameters of each substructure and geometric compatibility conditions are needed. Both the loaded interface free-free modes and free interface modes can be employed as the modal bases of each substructure. Recurrence discrete-time state equations based upon state transition matrix are formulated for the transient analysis of a parameter-changing system. It is shown form numerical examples that the suggested method is very accurate and efficient to calculate transient responses compares with the direct numerical integration method.

ZnO is of great interest for various technological applications ranging from optoelectronics to chemical sensors because of its superior emission, electronic, and chemical properties. In addition, vertically well-aligned ZnO nanorods on large areas with good optical and structural properties are of special interest for the fabrication of electronic and optical nanodevices. To date, several approaches have been proposed for the growth of one-dimensional (1D) ZnO nanostructunres. Several groups have been reported the MOCVD growth of ZnO nanorods with no metal catalysts at $400^{\circ}C$, and fabricated a well-aligned ZnO nanorod array on a PLD prepared ZnO film by using a catalyst-free method. It has been suggested that the synthesis of ZnO nanowires using a template-less/surfactant-free aqueous method. However, despite being a well-established and cost-effective method of thin film deposition, the use of magnetrons puttering to grow ZnO nanorods has not been reported yet. Additionally, magnetron sputtering has the dvantage of producing highly oriented ZnO film sat a relatively low process temperature. Currently, more effort has been concentrated on the synthesis of 1D ZnO nanostructures doped with various metal elements (Al, In, Ga, etc.) to obtain nanostructures with high quality, improved emission properties, and high conductance in functional oxide semiconductors. Among these dopants, Ga-doped ZnO has demonstrated substantial advantages over Al-doped ZnO, including greater resistant to oxidation. Since the covalent bond length of Ga-O ($1.92\;{\AA}$) is nearly equal to that of Zn-O ($1.97\;{\AA}$), high electron mobility and low electrical resistivity are also expected in the Ga-doped ZnO. In this article, we report the successful growth of Ga-doped ZnO nanorods on c-Sapphire substrate without metal catalysts by magnetrons puttering and our investigations of their structural, optical, and field emission properties.

$LiCoO_{2}$ powders were synthesized at various temperatures using lithium hydroxide and cobalt hydroxide as precursors prepared by precipitation process and freeze-drying. In this study, the$LiCoO_{2}$ samples were synthesized via a solid state reaction with various LiOH concentration between 10 % and 30 % excess. And $LiCoO_{2}$powders were calcined at 600~$800^{\circ}C$ in a short time. Measurements of XRD and SEM were performed to characterize the properties of the prepared materials. The effect of amount of Li ions on the structural change in powder has been examined using the XRD analysis. For the not added excess of LiOH, CoOOH phase presented in the XRD pattern of $LiCoO_{2}$ due to loss of Li ions during firing. The morphology and particle size of the powders were examined using SEM. The obtained powders are high temperature-$LiCoO_{2}$HT-LiCoO$_{2}$) and homogeneous with the range of grain size in the order of hundreds of nanometers. The effects of variation of LiOH concentration on the structural change in powder were investigated using the Rietveld analysis. As an analysis result, c/a is constant by 4.99 on all occasions. Finally, the structure of HT-$LiCoO_{2}$ was simulated by the commercial software $Creius^{2}$(Molecular Simulations, Inc.) from the results of Rietveld analysis.

The global energy storage markets have gravitated to high-energy-density and low cost of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) as the predominant system for energy storage such as electric vehicles (EVs). High-Ni layered oxides are considered promising next-generation cathode materials for LIBs owing to their significant advantages in terms of high energy density. However, the practical application of high-Ni cathodes remains challenging, because of their structural and surface instability. Although extensive studies have been conducted to mitigate these inherent instabilities, a two-step process involving the synthesis of the cathode and a dry/wet coating is essential. This study evaluates a one-step β-Li2SnO3 layer coating on the surface of LiNi0.8Co0.2O2 (NC82) via the thermal segregation of Sn owing to the solubility limit with respect to the synthesis temperature. The doping, segregation, and phase transition of Sn were systematically revealed by structural analyses. Moreover, surface-engineered 5 mol% Sn-coated LiNi0.8Co0.2O2 (NC82_Sn5%) exhibited superior capacity retention compared to bare NC82 owing to the stable surface coating layer. Thus, the developed one-step coating method is suitable for improving the properties of high-Ni layered oxide cathode materials for application in LIBs.

Long-span bridges are flexible structures with low natural frequencies and damping ratios, making them susceptible to vibrational serviceability problems. However, the current design guideline of South Korea assumes a uniform threshold of wind speed or vibrational amplitude to assess the occurrence of harmful vibrations, potentially overlooking the complex vibrational patterns observed in long-span bridges. In this study, we propose a pointwise vortex-induced vibration (VIV) detection method using a deep-learning-based signalsegmentation model. Departing from conventional supervised methods of data acquisition and manual labeling, we synthesize training data by generating sinusoidal waves with an envelope to accurately represent VIV. A Fourier synchrosqueezed transform is leveraged to extract time-frequency features, which serve as input data for training a bidirectional long short-term memory model. The effectiveness of the model trained on synthetic VIV data is demonstrated through a comparison with its counterpart trained on manually labeled real datasets from an actual cable-supported bridge.

Hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of pottery bodies can be controlled via chemical substitution of layered clay with hydrophilic and hydrophobic organics. In this study, organo-clay nanocomposites were prepared by ion-exchange of montmorillonite with dodecylamine and hexadecylamine, respectively. Substitution sites of organics and the interval changes of layered materials are characterized by FT-IR and WAXD and organics amounts loaded and water comtents contained by C/S analysis and TG-DSC. The organics were selectively intercalated so that increase layer interval from 12${\AA}\; to\;16{\AA}$. Organo-modified clay is changed to more hydrophobic comparing to clay itself.
$Li_2MnSiO_4$/C was synthesized by solid state reaction and solution synthesis with sucrose for carbon source. The X-ray diffraction patterns of solid state reaction indicates small amount of impurities. By FE-SEM and HR-TEM, solution synthesis comprised several tens of nanometer comparing to 500~600 nm of $Li_2MnSiO_4$/C prepared by solid state reaction. The $Li_2MnSiO_4$/C prepared by solution synthesis show better electrochemical performance than solid state reaction. The first charge-discharge capacity are 236, 189 mAh/g respectively by solution synthesis. But its cycle performance was poor as yet and its capacity retention was 62% after 10 cycles.
In this study, it has been proposed the new type of temporary bridge which is structural performance maximization to integrated cover plate and girder as well as roll of lining board. Of all temporary bridge integrated cover plate and main girder in the form of a new type of structure is advantageous for the judge, but to the field of transport difficulties and challenges due to high altitude operations to take advantage of this challenge and deliver a structured, easy transport, and the synthesis of lining board possible was proposed. Lining board proposed in this study through experimental synthesis and analysis of the factors that influence the effectiveness of the construction and economic development in the construction method was superior, compared to the conventional lining board.

Since their first discovery, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have become a material central to the field of nanotechnology. Owing to their splendid physical, structural and chemical properties, they have the potential to impact a wide range of applications, including advanced ceramics, nanoelectronic devices, nanoscale sensors, solar cells, battery electrodes, and field emitters. This review summarizes the synthetic methods of preparing CNTs and focuses on the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, especially catalytic CVD. In order to stabilize and disperse the catalyst nanoparticles (NPs) during synthesis, zeolite was implemented as the template to support metal-containing NPs, so that both CNTs in the bulk and on a 2D substrate were successfully synthesized. Despite more challenges ahead, there is always hope for widespread ever-new applications for CNTs with the development of technology.
