Beam-to-column connections behaviour plays an important role in the analysis and design of steel and precast concrete structures. The paper presents a computer-based method for geometrically nonlinear frames with semi-rigid beam-to-column connections. The analytical procedure employs modified stability functions to model the effect of axial force on the stiffness of members. The member modified stiffness matrix, and the modified fixed end forces for various loads were found. The linear and nonlinear analyses were applied for two planar steel structures. The method is readily implemented on a computer using matrix structural analysis techniques and is applicable for the efficient nonlinear analysis of frameworks.
Recently, the equipments of the structure are increasing remarkably. It is very important to evaluate the stability of the domes under concentrated loading such as a large-scale illuminating, visional, and sound equipment. The paper is aimed at investigating the buckling characteristics of single-layer latticed domes with triangular network under the uniformly distributed vertical-loading and the partially concentrated equipment-loading. The results show that the effects of the equipment-loading on the buckling strength is much more sensitive in domes of overall buckling than in domes of member buckling.
In segmentally erected bridges, the structural systems are changed as the construction stages progress and redistribution of member forces occurs due to time dependent effects of concrete and relaxation of perstressing steel. Therefore, structural analysis is required at each construction stage. In this study, nonlinear analysis program of the segmentally erected prestressed concrete box girder bridges is developed to raise the efficiency in making input file for the main program and analysis of the results produced by the main program.
CMCase, a member of cellulose decomposing enzymes, hydrolyze cellulose up to cellobiose. Cellobiase splits cellobiose to glucose units. Therefore, a linkage of the twogenes coding for CMCase and cellobiase on the same plasmid is needed to produce a cellulase complex which can produce glucose from cellulose. A genetic operon in which the two structural genes are under the control of a single promoter would be ideal for this purpose. The present report is on the linking of the two cellulase genes in one plasmid as a preliminary step of the operon construction.
An ultimate strength evaluation of the through plate girder bridge using nonlinear inelastic analysis is presented. In this method, separate member capacity checks after analysis are not required, because the stability and strength of the structural system and its component members can be rigorously treated in analysis. The method captures the inelastic redistribution of internal forces throughout a structural system, and allows an economic use of material for highly indeterminate steel bridges.
This paper is concerned with the change of joint rigidity in estimating the degree of semi-rigidity of connections and the buckling load in a single layer latticed dome. The estimations are based on information about the ratio for the rotational stiffness of the connection to the flexural stiffness of the member and the minimum eigenvalue of a structure for pinned, semi-rigid and completely rigid cases, respectively. Connection characteristics are reflected in the ratio control of joint rigidity for the DOFs to be related using the spring element by FEM.
This study presents a discrete optimization of tall steel buildings under multiple drift constraints using a dual method. Dual method can replace the primary optimization problem with a sequence of approximate explicit subproblems. Since each subproblem is convex and separable, it can be efficiently solved by using a dual formulation. Specifically, this study considers the discrete-optimization problem due to the commercial standard steel sections to select member sizes. The results by the proposed method will be compared with those of the conventional optimality criteria method
In this study the fire, due to overturning of oil tanker on the bridge induced heat transfer analysis and thermal stress analysis are carried out. The results of analysis for fire history of 1 hour present very large thermal gradient near the surface. However, the temperature increase of tendon & rebar that is the main resistant member of bridge is not sufficient to change material properties. The Von-Mises yield criteria is used to calculate the depth of delamination, The depth of delamination is about 4cm at center of fire and this value is close to measured value.
In this paper a useful method on evaluating the joint stiffness of bolted memeber was introduced using optimization technique on the basis of Finite Element Method. A finite element model having one directional gap element at bo undary area was introduced to compensate the prying force in jointed members which might caused by geometrical configuration of members. Results showed a good aggrement with classical method in certain range and will be available to definine the design margine of pre-load design.
