  • The purpose of this paper is the optimum modification of dynamic characteristics of stiffened plate structure including the number of stiffener. This paper shows the optimum structural modification method by dynamic sensitivity analysis and quasi-least squares method and considers it's validity. In the method of the optimization, finite element method, sensitivity analysis and optimum structural modification method are used. The change of natural frequency and total weight are made to be an objective function. Thickness of plate, the number of stiffener and cross section moment of stiffener become a design variable. The dynamic characteristics of stiffened plate structure is analyzed using finite element method. Next, rate of change of dynamic characteristics by the change of design variable is calculated using the sensitivity analysis. Then, amount of change of design variable is calculated using optimum structural modification method. It is shown that the results are effective in the optimum modification for dynamic characteristics of the stiffened plate structure including the number of stiffener.

  • Monitoring frequency change is a tool to indicate the change ill structural parameters. However, even critical reduction of stiffness is predicted in the range of indication errors due to the effect of temperature on the frequency change. In this study, an experimental work to examine the effect of various temperatures on modal characteristics of steel plate-girders is presented. A model plate-girder used for the experiment is described. Natural frequencies are monitored by using two different excitation sources-impact and shaker. The relation between measurement temperatures and natural frequencies are analyzed.

  • This study deals with an early detection problem of structural change in won/dollar exchange market. A CUSUM algorithm is developed to monitor relevant economic variables indicating structural change in won/dollar exchange market. We applied the CUSUM algorithm to examine whether or not it was possible to alarm the 1997 economic crisis of Korea in advance.

  • We propose an estimation procedure that can be used for detecting structural changes in the seasonal cointegrated vector autoregressive model. The asymptotic properties of the estimates and the test statistics for the parameter change are provided. A simulation example is presented to illustrate this method and its concept.

  • The chain-ladder method, for which run-off data is employed is popularly used in the rate-adjustment and loss-reserving practices of non-life-insurance and health-insurance companies. The method is applicable when the underlying assumption of a consistent development pattern is in regards to a cumulative loss payment after the occurrence of an insurance event. In this study, a modified chain-ladder algorithm is proposed for when the assumption is considered to be only partially appropriate for the given run-off data. The concept of a structural-change point in the run-off data and its reflection in the estimation of unpaid loss amounts are discussed with numerical illustrations. Experience data from private health insurance coverage in Korea were analyzed based on the suggested method. The performance in estimation of loss reserve was also compared with traditional approaches. We present evidence in this paper that shows that a reflection of a structural-change point in the chain-ladder method can improve the risk management of the relevant insurance products. The suggested method is expected to be utilized easily in actuarial practice as the algorithm is straightforward.

  • A modal parameter based damage sensitive feature (DSF) is defined to mimic the relative change in any diagonal element of the stiffness matrix of a model of a structure. The damage assessment is performed in a statistical pattern recognition framework using empirical complementary cumulative distribution functions (ECCDFs) of the DSFs extracted from measured operational vibration response data. Methods are discussed to perform probabilistic structural health assessment with respect to the following questions: (a) "Is there a change in the current state of the structure compared to the baseline state?", (b) "Does the change indicate a localized stiffness reduction or increase?", with the latter representing a situation of retrofitting operations, and (c) "What is the severity of the change in a probabilistic sense?". To identify a range of normal structural variations due to environmental and operational conditions, lower and upper bound ECCDFs are used to define the baseline structural state. Such an approach attempts to decouple "non-damage" related variations from damage induced changes, and account for the unknown environmental/operational conditions of the current state. The damage assessment procedure is discussed using numerical simulations of ambient vibration testing of a bridge deck system, as well as shake table experimental data from a 4-story steel frame.

  • In this paper we consider the problem of testing for structural changes in ARIMA models based on a cusum test. In particular, the proposed test procedure is applicable to testing for a change of the status of time series from stationarity to nonstationarity or vice versa. The idea is to transform the time series via differencing to make stationary time series. We propose a graphical method to identify the correct order of differencing.

  • In this Paper, a so-called volume-control method for nonlinear failure analysis of reinforced concrete cylindrical structures is proposed. The pressure node which defines uniform change of pressure on finite element is added into layered shell element utilizing in-plane constitutive models of reinforced concrete and layered formulation. With the pressure node formulation, one can control the change in volume enclosed by the cylindrical structures and determine the required change in pressure. An algorith of volume-control method is employed and failure analyses for RC cylindrical structures are carried out using proposed method.

  • In this paper, in order to secure the safety and productivity of pine cone harvest, modeling and structural analysis of the hammering system for pine cone harvest drone that can easily access pine cone of Pinus koraiensis and collide with them to harvest them was performed. It calculate the equivalent stress for the structure of the hammering system and the yield strength of the applied material by applying the shear force of the stalk at which the pine cone is separated from the branch, and it is to verify the safety of the structure and propose an optimal design through appropriate factor of safety and design change. The shear force of the stalk at which the pine cone was separated from the branch was 468 N, and was applied to both ends of the hammering system. The yield strength of SS400 steel used in the hammering system is 245 ㎫, and the design change and structural analysis were performed so that the Von Mises stress could be less than 122.5 ㎫ by applying the factor of safety of 2.0 or more. As a result of the structural analysis of the frist modeling, the Von Mises stress was 220.3 ㎫, the factor of safety was 1.12, and the stress was concentrated in the screw fastening holes. As a result of the design change of the screw fastening holes, the Von Mises stress was 169.4 ㎫, the factor of safety was 1.45, and the stress was concentrated on the side part. As a result of the design change by changing screw fastening holes and adding ribs, the Von Mises stress was 121.6 ㎫, and the factor of safety was 2.02. The safety of the hammering system was secured with an optimal design with little change in mass. There was no deformation or damage as a result of experimenting on pine cone harvest by manufacturing the hammering system with an optimal design.
