Application of artificial neural networks to a double receding contact problem with a rigid stamp

  • This paper presents the possibilities of adapting artificial neural networks (ANNs) to predict the dimensionless parameters related to the maximum contact pressures of an elasticity problem. The plane symmetric double receding contact problem for a rigid stamp and two elastic strips having different elastic constants and heights is considered. The external load is applied to the upper elastic strip by means of a rigid stamp and the lower elastic strip is bonded to a rigid support. The problem is solved under the assumptions that the contact between two elastic strips also between the rigid stamp and the upper elastic strip are frictionless, the effect of gravity force is neglected and only compressive normal tractions can be transmitted through the interfaces. A three layered ANN with backpropagation (BP) algorithm is utilized for prediction of the dimensionless parameters related to the maximum contact pressures. Training and testing patterns are formed by using the theory of elasticity with integral transformation technique. ANN predictions and theoretical solutions are compared and seen that ANN predictions are quite close to the theoretical solutions. It is demonstrated that ANNs is a suitable numerical tool and if properly used, can reduce time consumed.

Free vibration analysis of functionally graded cylindrical shells with different shell theories using semi-analytical method

  • In this study, the semi-analytical finite strip method is adopted to examine the free vibration of cylindrical shells made up of functionally graded material. The properties of functionally graded shells are assumed to be temperature-dependent and vary continuously in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of ceramic and metal. The material properties of the shells and stiffeners are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. Theoretical formulations based on the smeared stiffeners technique and the classical shell theory with first-order shear deformation theory which accounts for through thickness shear flexibility are employed. The finite strip method is applied to five different shell theories, namely, Donnell, Reissner, Sanders, Novozhilov, and Teng. The approximate procedure is compared favorably with three-dimensional finite elements. Finally, a detailed numerical study is carried out to bring out the effects of power-law index of the functional graded material, stiffeners, and geometry of the shells on the difference between various shell theories. Finally, the importance of choosing the shell theory in simulating the functionally graded cylindrical shells is addressed.

난류 채널 내 냉·열판 부착에 의한 마찰저항 감소 (Drag Reduction in Turbulent Channel flow with Periodically Arrayed Heating and Cooling Strips)

  • A new technique giving significant drag reduction in turbulent shear flows has been proposed by using the buoyancy effect to generate periodic spanwise motion. Such spanwise motion can be obtained by arranging heating and cooling strips periodically aligned in the spanwise direction of a vertical channel, where the streamwise mean flow is perpendicular to the gravity vector The strip size has been changed in order to obtain the optimum size corresponding to the maximum drag reduction. The bulk Reynolds number, $ Re_{m} = U_{m} \delta / \nu \$ is fixed at 2270 while Grashof numbers is changed between $10^{6}$ to $10^{7}$. As Grashof number increases, considerable drag reduction can be obtained, At the highest Grashof number, an optimum strip size of about 250 wail units gives drag reduction of about 35$\%$. The greater the Grashof number, the smaller the strip size attains the maximum drag reduction.

한국산 양서류피부의 생물학적활성물질에 관한 검색 (Active Polypeptides in Korean Amphibian Skin Extracts)

  • The effect of skin extracts of Korean amphibian, poisonous snake and fresh-water fish were determined for their caerulein-like action on rabbit gall bladder strips. The isolated gall bladder strips were prepared according to the technique described by Amer and Becvar(1969). The strips were placed in a bath containing 100ml of Locke-Ringer solution maintained at $38^{\circ}C$. Oxygen was continuously bubbled through the solution. The tension of the muscle strip was initially adjusted to 0.7g. The contractile response was measured isometrically by a force-displacement transducer connected to a polygraph. In this rabbit gall bladder strip caerulein produced contraction of CCK-PZ type. The skin extract of Korean amphibian also elicited similar contraction as caerulein, which extracted from Australian amphibian, Hyla caerulea, by Erspamer et al. The calculated amount was approximately $2{\mu}g$ caerulein per gram of skin tissue in Korean amphibian and the potency was about 1/200 of that seen in Australian amphibian. The contraction of gall bladder strip by our amphibians occurs in decreasing order; Rana Nigromaculata coreana Okada, Rana nigromaculata Hallowell, Hyla arborea japonica Gunther and Bombina orientalis Boulenger. The skin extracts of poisonous snake and fresh-water fish produced no caerulein-like activity.

송유관선로의 식생복원 감시를 위한 비디오선형지도화 및 patch dynamics분석 (Video Strip Mapping (VSM) and Patch Dynamics Analysis for Revegetation Monitoring of a Pipeline Route)

  • 본 논문은 좁은 폭이지만 장거리에 걸쳐있는 지상목적물 (15m 폭에 400km길이)에 대한 새로운 원격탐사 및 GIS기법의 개발을 보고한다 (송유관건설로 파괴된 식생의 복원실태를 모니터링하고자). 비디오는 visual 또는 quantitative해석방식에서 신뢰할만한 정확도를 가지고 복원된 주요식생군락을 분별해냈다. 또한 GIS환경에서 digital change-detection 기법을 통해 복원된 식생의 공간적인 patch dynamics의 분포실태를 평가하는 도구로서 비디오가 아주 유용하게 사용될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구의 결론은 비디오선형지도화가 송유관선로의 환경감시를 위해 현실운용이 가능한 기술이다는 것이며. 여타의 선형목적물에 대한 환경감시를 위해서도 효율적으로 사용될 수 있음을 보여준다.

Failure pattern of twin strip footings on geo-reinforced sand: Experimental and numerical study

  • In practice, the interference influence caused by adjacent footings of structures on geo-reinforced loose soil has a considerable impact on their behavior. Thus, the goal of this study is to evaluate the behavior of two strip footings in close proximity on both geocell and geogrid reinforced soil with different reinforcement layers. Geocell was made from geogrid material used to compare the performance of cellular and planar reinforcement on the bearing pressure of twin footings. Extensive experimental tests have been performed to attain the optimum embedment depth and vertical distance between reinforcement layers. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) analysis has been conducted to monitor the deformation, tilting and movement of soil particles beneath and between twin footings. Results of tests and PIV technique were verified using finite element modeling (FEM) and the results of both PIV and FEM were used to utilize failure mechanisms and influenced shear strain around the loading region. The results show that the performance of twin footings on geocell-reinforced sand at allowable and ultimate settlement ranges are almost 4% and 25% greater than the same twin footings on the same geogrid-reinforced sand, respectively. By increasing the distance between twin footings, soil particle displacements become smaller than the settlement of the foundations.

  • Porous실리콘 形成反應에서 HF濃度, 電流應度, 反應時間 및 基叛의 表面狀態가 PSL (Porous Silicon Layers)의 porosity에 미치는 影響을 실험적으로 조사하였다. PSL을 陽배化 시켜서 室溫에서 FIPPOS-SOI를 제조하는 방법을 연구하였다. 이 방법으로 100um폭의 SOI strip line을 제조하였으며 SOI의 stress제거를 위해 2단계 PSL 형성법을 이용하였다. 또한 이 실온 SOI 제조기술을 이용하여 이미 소자공정을 끝낸 집적회로를 SOI화 시킬 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다.

  • 본 논문은 대칭 (단자 단로망이론을 근거로 분포정수 회로에 대한 매트릭스식에 의해서 결합기의 결합도와 특성임피던스간의 관계식을 얻어내었고 마이크로스트립 전송선로에 대한 칭전기학적 접근방식에 의해 등각사상법의 적용방식을 밝히고 경계치조건을 만족시키는 특성임피이던스식과 유전체 경계면상에서의 위상속도와 우수모드 및 기수모드 시의 유효유전율의 관계에 의해서 결합영역의 길이를 결정하는 식을 유도하였다. 결과식을 이용하여 원하는 방향성 결합기의 칫수를 콤퓨타 프로그램에 의하여 설계하였으며 설계한 결합기의 칫수에 따라 양면 유전체기판 Custom High K 707L-2.5을 사용하여 7개의 결합기를 제작하였다. 이 제작된 결합기는 실험에 의해서 이론치와 비교 고찰하였으며 10dB에서 20dB까지의 요구되는 결합기는 비교적 좋은 결과를 얻었다. A significant new technique in the dsvelopment of micro-wave circuits is the process of untilization of coupled lines in the transverse electro-magnetic field. The bases for this technique are the application of even-and odd-mode characteristic impedances of the transmission line. This article describes the properties of directional couplers and explains a prccfdure usrd to design micro-strip directional couplers with the aid of the computer. The article also describes the experimental results obtained from seven microstrip couplers, which were built to verify the computer program and the approximate solutions. It can be seen that in cases at X-band where couplings of 10 to 20dB are required, the computer program and approximate solutions will produce good results.

연속용융도금라인에서 에어나이프 특성이 도금편차에 미치는 영향 (A Study on Coating Deviation Effect by Air Knife Characteristics in CGL)

  • Air Wiping technique is widely used because of easy and efficient coating control in present CGL. Coaring weight is decided by nozzle header pressure, strip line speed and distance between strip and nozzle. Coating defects are results from unbalance of these factors and coating equipment calibration inaccuracy. Therefore, this study is mainly dealing with the cause of coating defects such as edge overcoating and coating deviation. The coptimum working condition is suggested by formulated coating model using collected working data. We developed two demension analysis program for air flow in nozzle and calculated dynamic pressure and air velocity with this program. The productivity and coating guality are improved by applying the result of this reserach.

  • This paper investigates a method to tackle the resonance problems of the rectangular power-bus structure(PBS) using thin sheets loaded with periodic metal strips. The equivalent surface impedance of the proposed loading is calculated and involved in the expression of the impedance that accounts for in the PBS, in order to improve the resonance behavior of the original structure. The effects of the strips and the immediate surroundings are illustrated by a number of numerical experiments. Also the restrictions of the technique are addressed.
