  • In this paper, a meander-line chip antenna with stacked layer is suggested, designed and fabricated employing the LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) fabrication techniques. To reduce the antenna chip size, the meander-line antenna strip is distributed over three layer. Layers one interconnected using via holes. A 2.4 GHz chip antenna with size of $3.75{\times}7.9{\times}1.0 mm^3$ is designed and fabricated using the LTCC technique. Measurements of the fabricated antenna show 160 MHz bandwidth and 3.75 dBi maximum gain. The Measured reflection coefficient and radiation patterns agree well with the prediction by electromagnetic simulation.

  • In this papers, an S-band oscillator of the low phase noise property using a miniaturized micro-strip hairpin shaped ring resonator is presented The substrate has a dielectric constant $\epsilon_\gamma$=3.5, a thickness h=0.508 mm, and loss tangent $tan\delta$=0.002. A designed and fabricated oscillator shows low phase noise performance of 99. 71 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz offset frequency and of output power 19.584 dBm at center frequency 2.450 GHz. This circuit was fabricated with hybrid technique, but can be fully compatible with the MMIC due to its entirely planar structure.

  • The peel adhesion and plastic deformation in Cu-Cr alloy films, sputter-deposited onto polyimide films, have been studied as a function of Cr content in the film. The adhesion strength has been measured by T-peel test and the amount of plastic deformation in the peeled metal strip was determined qualitatively by XRD technique. Peel adhesion strength has a maximum in the film containing 22-33wt.% Cr and the peel strength of pure Cr film is lower than the maximum. The film having the highest peel strength is deformed most heavily. The effect of Cr content on the peel strength is discussed in terms of the interfacial bond strength and mechanical properties of Cu-Cr alloy film.

  • The rolling of flat slabs or sheet metal is probably the most advanced technique of metalworking technology. In spite of this very intensive activity, the problem if edge cracking has not been resolved. Although edge cracking is a major industrial problem, relatively little well-documented experimental work has been published on subject. Despite the paucity of exact experiments, it is reasonably certain from published data that three causes contribute to its occurrence; (1) limited ductility of the rolled material (2) uneven deformation at the edges and (3) variations in stresses along the width of the rolled material, particular near the edge. The present study was carried out to show the generation of edge cracking using ductile fracture criteria and FE-simulation. The validity of simulated results was verified by rolling experiments of steel strip.

  • In general, the cutting pattern of the membrane structures is determined by dividing the complicated curved 3-D surface into several 2-D plane strip by using flattening technique. In this procedure, however, some discrepancies ore occurred between actual stresses of equilibrated state and designed uniform stresses because the material properties are not considered. These deviations can cause the critical structural problems, wrinkling or overstress, and thus a optimization process should be considered. In this paper, a new analytical method for determining an optimum cutting pattern considering material properties is presented. Here, iterative procedure is introduced to decrease the errors caused in numerical process. The optimization method proposed can diminish the deviations occurred by material properties and numerical errors, simultaneously. As a results, it is shown that the final stress distributions for the HP shell model are sufficiently near to design stress distributions, and it can be concluded that this method can be used to obtain the optimized cutting pattern of membrane structures.

  • This paper proposes a new modeling method for estimating the impedance of an on-chip power/ground meshed plane. Frequency dependent R, L, and C parameters are extracted based on the proposed method so that the model can be applied from DC to high frequencies. The meshed plane model is composed of two parts: coplanar multi strip (CMS) and conductor-backed CMS. The conformal mapping technique and the scaled conductivity concept are used for accurate modeling of the CMS. The developed microstrip approach is applied to model the conductor-backed CMS. The proposed modeling method has been successfully verified by comparing the impedance of RLC circuit based on extracted parameters and the simulated impedance using a 3D-field solver.

  • In this paper, the lateral motions of a ship in the time domain are treated by applying the Impulse Response Function Technique. The acceleration, and displacement of a ship in the time domain are needed for the purpose of such automatic controls as the fire control system and the auto-pilot of ocean-going vessels, etc. The response Amplitude Operators of a ship are calculated by the Strip Method of Salvesen-Tuck-Faltinsen, and the Pierson-Moskowitz Spectrum multiplied by spreading function is used to represent the short crested ocean waves. The ocean wave elevations in the time domain are simulated according to the Method of Borgman. Finally the rudder effect is considered by simply adding the force and moment due to the rudder to the wave exciting force. And the results of lateral motions with and without rudder are shown.

  • Surface roughness of cold rolled steel sheet as well as the coating technique itself is quite important in obtaining high image clarity of electronic products and car outer panels. Especially, surface characteristics of steel sheet have acquired increasing attention from the steel and automotive industries. While the influence of such characteristics on paintability formability and painted surface appearance is important in defining steel surface requirements for automotive industries. Therefore this paper is dedicated primarily to the issue of paint appearance and reviews for improvement of roughness and peak count about the surface of work roll for the actual temper mill. The conclusions were obtained as follows ; 1) Roughness and peak count about the surface of steel sheet is strongly affected by surface condition of work roll. 2) The electro-discharge textured roll has more uniform roughness distribution than shot blasted roll and it's painted appearance of steel sheet has more improvement than that of the shot blasted because it has more harmonic wave roughness, and the higher peak count of surface roughness.

  • This paper is concerned with the theroretical and experimental study on the force control of a miniature robotic finger that grasps an object at three other positions with the fingertip. The artificial finger is uniform flexible cantilever beam equipped with a distributed set of compact grasping force secnsors. Control action is applied by a qiexoceramic bimorph strip placed at the base of the finger. The mathematical model of the assembled electro-mechanical system is developed. The distributed sensors are described by a set of concentrated mass-spring system. The formulated equations of motion are then applied to a control problem which the finger is commanded to grasp an object The PID-controller is introduced to drive the finger. The usefulness of the proposed control technique is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • This research was aimed to establish rapid analysis technique for the determination of nitrate ($NO_3{^-}$) concentration in the leaves of paprika, which has key role for the stable vegetative and reproductive growth. Leaf petiole and blade sap of two paprika cultivars ('Raon red' and 'Raon yellow') were used for the determination of $NO_3{^-}$ concentration, separately using rapid detection kit (RQ-flex) and spectroscopy quantification methods. In addition, two paprika cultivars namely, 'Nicole' and 'TP2001' were used to determine the status of $NO_3{^-}$ concentration in leaf of each fruiting group. $NO_3{^-}$ concentration in leaf blade sap and the content in leaf showed significant correlation ($R^2=0.8628$), analysed by RQ-flex and spectroscopy methods, respectively. Furthermore, leaf petiole sap and the content in leaf also showed significant correlation ($R^2=0.6734$) but the relationship was poor compared to leaf blade sap and the leaf content. $NO_3{^-}$ concentration in petiole sap decreased in all the cultivars from early to late fruiting group. The higher concentration in the lower leaves and the continuous decrease towards the upper leaves in the both years were found through the analysis of $NO_3{^-}$ concentration in different leaf position. In addition, daily short-term fluctuation of $NO_3{^-}$ in petiole sap could be rapidly monitored. These results showed that long-term or short-term monitoring by test strip-based rapid analysis technique might be useful tool for the diagnosis of nutritional status for the stable of nutritional management in paprika.
