  • Friction is a dominant nonlinear factor in servomechanisms, which seriously deteriorates system accuracy. A friction compensator is indispensable to fabricate high-performance servomechanisms. In order to compensate for the friction in the servomechanism, identification of the friction elements is required. To estimate the friction of the servomechanism, an accurate linear element model of the system is required first. Tn this paper, a nonlinear friction model, in which static, coulomb and viscous frictions as well as Stribeck effect are included, is identified through the describing function approximation of the nonlinear element. A nonlinear element composed of two relays is intentionally devised to induce various limit cycle conditions in the velocity control loop of the servomechanism. The friction coefficients are estimated from the intersection points of the linear and nonlinear elements in the complex plane. A Butterworth filter is added to the velocity control loop not only to meet the assumption of the harmonic balance method but also to improve the accuracy of the friction identification process. Validity of the proposed method is confirmed through numerical simulations and experiments. In addition, a model-based friction compensator is applied as a feedforward controller to compensate fur the nonlinear characteristics of the servomechanism and to verify the effectiveness of the proposed identification method.

  • In this study, efficient force reflection algorithm is developed for the Haptic Display by using a proxy concept and friction model. When there are not any contacted obstacles the proxy is following human operator's command trajectory in the 3D virtual space. But when the operator's command trajectory is locating inside of the object, the proxy is constrained by the surface of the object. Here only with the information of the proxy position and operator's command trajectory at every time step, we can calculate the reflection force and its orientation. To display the friction force between two virtual stiff material which are sliding against each other, modified Karnopp's friction model is used. In the friction model, a damping term and a Stribeck effect term are included to display the relative velocity effect and stick-slip effect at the very low relative velocity region respectively.

  • The current study investigated the friction property of angle and width effect for micro-scale grooved crosshatch pattern on SKD11 steel surface against bearing steel using pin-on-disk type. The samples fabricated by photolithography process and then these are carry out the electrochemical etching process. We discuss the friction property due to the influence of a hatched-angle and a width of groove on contact surface. We could be explained the lubrication mechanism for a Stribeck curve. So It was found that the friction coefficient depend on an angle of the crosshatch on contact surface. It was thus verified that micro-scale crosshatch grooved pattern could affect the friction reduction. Also, it is play an important a width of groove to be improved the friction property. I was found that friction property has a relationship between a width and an angle for micro-grooved pattern.

  • Micro-scale surface pattern has an benefit of tribological application under lubricated sliding contact. Therefore, a special pattern, that has to reduce the coulomb friction under contact, is considered to be necessary for improved efficiency of machines. • Surface texturing of tribological application is another attractive technology of friction reducing. Also, reduction of friction is therefore considered to be a necessary requirement for improved efficiency of machine. In this paper attempts to investigate the effect of density for micro-scale dimple pattern on bearing steel flat mated with pin-on-disk. We demonstrated the lubrication mechanism for a Stribeck curve, which has a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter for lubrication condition. It is found that friction coefficient is depended on the density of surface pattern. It was thus verified that micro-scale dimple could affect the friction reduction.Lubrication condition regime has an influence on the friction coefficient induced the density of micro dimple.

This study investigated the effect of friction property for angles of micro-crosshatch groove surface pattern on bearing steel using pin-on-disk test. We obtain sample which can be fabricated by photolithography process. We discuss the friction property depend on an angle of crosshatch groove surface pattern. We can verify the lubrication mechanism as Stribeck curve, which has a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter under the lubrication condition. It was found that the friction coefficient was related to angle of crosshatch groove pattern on contact surface.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of surface texturing on metal surface and to understand the potential of friction reduction through micro-scale dimple to fabricate by photolithography on pin-on-disk test using flat-on-flat contact geometry. It was verify that the friction property with respect to the same pitch has been influence on the size of dimple under lubricated sliding contact. Also, we can recognize from Stribeck curve that the friction property has a connection with the size of dimple. It can explain a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter for lubrication condition. The friction property has been an effect on the size of surface texture on reduction friction, not only because the density of dimple, but also because the ratio of diameter/pitch. This ratio of approximately 0.5 is recommend under the tested friction condition. It suggested that the ratio of d/p is an important parameter for surface texture design.
