This study was conducted to investigate the main factors that contain a rotating velocity ratio between wheel and conveyor belt, a tilt angle of conveyor belt and a rotating velocity of a dick cutter for mechanization of Chinese leek harvest. In the survey on the cultivation of Chinese leek, row spacing of 350 m and cutting height of 10 mm from the ground were set up for field tests. Test equipment was designed to cut, pick up and convey Chinese leek one row by one row. From the results of material tests, pick-up height of conveyor belt was set up at $60\~90m$ from the bottom, and the strain and stress at rupture of Chinese leek was 0.487 m/m and 0.01078 MPa. An elastic coefficient of the rubber (Neoprene) of conveyor belts was 1.1077 under the strain of 0.3 nym. from the results of field tests, the tilt angle of conveyor belt was the range of $25^{\circ}\~30^{\circ}$ under consideration far space of container, the velocity ratio between vehicle and conveying belt was 1 to 2.4~1.7 at 0.1~0.3 m/s of vehicle, and optimum rotating velocity of the disk cutter was 34.8 m/s or more under consideration for soil friction.
In 1968, Carpentier and his associates introduced glutaraldehyde as a compound for preparing cardiac tissue valve, and this technique has provided a considerably more suitable and durable tissue valve substitute. To increase further durability of valve tissue, Reis and his colleagues designed a flexible stent to reduce the stress on the heterogeneous tissue valve mounted. However with the advent of more innovative mechanical valve currently, many bioprosthetic valves are being substituted by mechanical valves at our department of cardiothoracic surgery because of bioprosthetic valve failure. Main cause of bioprosthetic valves failure were calcification or/and tear of tissue valves. The purpose of this retrospective study is to clarify the relationship between the patients clinical profile during implantation of tissue valves and pathologic features of the failed bioprosthetic valve. From March, 1982 through June, 1988, 53 bioprosthetic heart valves that had been ex-planted from 45 patients at the department of cardiac surgery of Yonsei University Hospital were subjected to this study. The patients were 10 to 65 year-old [mean age: 30.3 yr] with 17 males and 28 females. Re-replacements of prosthetic valves were carried out twenty nine in mitral position, eight in aortic position and eight in both aortic and mitral position simultaneously. The grading and location for calcification of valves were verified by radiograms. The calcification of the explanted valves leaflets was graded from 0 to 4 plus according to Cipriano and associates method. The types of tear and perforation of leaflet were classified into four types as Ishihara has adopted initially in 1981. In younger age group under thirty three years, explanted tissue valves were significantly more affected in terms of grades of severity of valve calcification as compared with older age group [p < 0.035]. Valve calcification appeared more severe in male as compared to female [p< 0.002]. Ionescu-Shiley bovine pericardial bioprosthetic valves showed more severe calcification than Hancock porcine tissue valves [p< 0.035]. Calcium deposit was found very prevalent at the area of commissural attachment [86 % of all]. Type I of valve rupture was shown to be related with simultaneous calcification. However, the relation of explanted valve position, duration of implanted prosthetic valve, atrial fibrillation and anticoagulant therapy to the severity of bioprosthetic valve calcification were not significantly clear statistically [p > 0.05].
Objectives: The authors tried to analyze the results of carotid artery sacrifice with or without preoperative carotid evaluation. Materials and Methods: Thirteen patients undergone carotid sacrifice were evaluated. Carotid balloon occlusion test (BOT) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with technetium-99m-labeled hexamethylpropyleneamineoxime ($^{99m}Tc-HMPAO$) were used for preoperative carotid evaluation. Results: The causes of carotid artery sacrifice consisted of the neck mass involving the carotid artery, spontaneous aneurysmal rupture, and traumatic pseudoaneurysm. Five patient had postoperative neurologic complications and two of them had permanent neurologic deficits. Conclusion: The authors stress that the preoperative evaluation in carotid artery sacrifice is imperable, and the BOT with SPECT can be used in selecting the method of treatment. But since these tests cannot predict the postoperative outcome perfectly, careful perioperative care of the patients should be exercised regardless of the results of the preoperative evaluation.

This study was carried out to prove the therapeutic effects of BNJB on the catract. The objects of this study were CXSD mice that spontaneously eye rupture occurred from three weeks after birth and eventually generate cataract within 12 weeks. We applied eyewash made from BNJB to eyes of CXSD mice twice in a day till all the eyes of the negative control showed up the symptoms of a cataract and recorded the increasing patterns of cataractous eyes. To explained the therapeutic effects of the BNJB, We carried out the ex vivo experiment which cultivating eyeballs were offered oxidative stress condition by $0.03{\%}$$H_2O_2$ during three days. Total co-enzyme was extracted from the cultured eyeballs and used to measure activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathion S-transferase and content of GSH. The results were obtained as follows: 1. When we treated the catalin to CXSD mouse as a positive control, it represented the delaying effect for cataract generation for 2-3 days compare with negative control. But it seems that it doesn't appropriate as a therapeutic, or delaying agent. 2. In the experimental BNJB group, Cataract formation rate was dramatically reduced by BNJB. This rate was much lower than positive group and means our new formulation for the therapy of cataract has a good potential. 3. In the analysis of individual medicines of BNJB, Mok-Jeok-Cho, Hwang-Lyun and Ha-Go-Cho didn't have a major effect of BNJB. 4. The cataract formation rate was repressed by Bing-Pyun and Jin- Joo-Boon about $40{\%}$ and $50{\%}$, respectively. We can presume that the anti-cataract effect of BNJB was caused by these two medicines. 5. When we surveyed the anti-oxidant activities of BNJB, enzyme activities of GSH, SOD, and Catalase increased about $10{\%},\30{\%}$, and 2.5 folds, respectively.

The effect of alloying mode and porosity on the axial tension-tension fatigue behavior of a P/M steel of nominal composition Fe-4w/o Ni-1.5w/o Cu-O.5w/o Mo-O.5w/o C has been evaluated. Alloying modes utilized were elemental powder mixing, partial alloying(distaloy) and prealloying by water atomization; in each case the carbon was introduced as graphite prior to sintering. Powder compacts were sintered($1120{\circ}C$/30 min.) in 7Sv/o $H_2$/25v/o $N_2$ to densities in the range 6.77-7.2 g/$cm^3$. The dependence of fatigue limit response on alloying mode and porosity was interpreted in terms of the constituent phases and the pore and fracture morphologies associated with the three alloying modes. For the same nominal composition, the three alloying modes resulted in different sintered microstructures. In the elemental mix alloy and the distaloy, the major constituent was coarse and fine pearlite, with regions of Ni-rich ferrite, Ni-rich martensite and Ni-rich areas. In contrast, the prealloy consisted primarily of martensite by with some Ni-rich areas. From an examination of the fracture surfaces following fatigue testing it was concluded that essentially all of the fracture surfaces exhibited dimpled rupture, characteristic of tensile overload. Thus, the extent of growth of any fatigue cracks prior to overload was small. The stress amplitude for the three alloying modes at 2x$l0^6$ was used for the comparison of fatigue strengths. For load cycles <3x$l0^5$, the prealloy exhibited optimum fatigue response followed by the distaloy and elemental mix alloy, respectively. At load cycles >2x$l0^6$, similar fatigue limits were exhibited by the three alloys. It was concluded that fatigue cracks propagate primarily through pores, rather than through the constituent phases of the microstructure. A decrease in pore SIze improved the S-N behavior of the sintered steel.
Purpose: Metacarpal fractures are common hand injury that may require operative intervention to ensure adequate reduction and stabilization. Traditionally, titanium miniplate was used for rigid fixation of bone fractures. However, the use of permanent plate lends itself to multiple complications such as infection, exposure of the hardware, tendon adhesions, tendon rupture, prolonged pain, bony atrophy and osteoporosis (stress shielding), metal sensitization, and palpation under the skin. This study evaluated the usefulness and stability of biodegradable plates and screws for treatment of metacarpal bone fractures. Methods: There was 17 patients who had surgery for metacarpal bone fracture from April 2007 to June 2010. All patients had open reduction and internal fixation. We used absorbable plates and screws (Inion CPS$^{(R)}$) for internal fixation. Postoperative results were assessed with x-ray. Stability of plates and screws, healing process and its complications were observed by clinical and radiographic assessment. Results: All patients were successfully reduced of bone fracture, and fixations with absorbable plates and screws were stable. The mean follow up period was 7.1 months. 2 patients complained postoperative pain, but they were relieved with analgesics. All patients experienced transient stiffness, but they were relieved with active assistive range of motion after removal of splint. No patients suffered complications which could be occurred by using metallic plate. Conclusion: There was no critical complications such as re-fracture or nonunion among patients. No patients suffered side effects related with metallic implants. Biodegradable implants can offer clinically stable and attractive alternative to metallic implants to stabilize metacarpal bone fractures in the hand.
The process and facilities of modern chemical plants are becoming increasingly complex, there is possibility of potential risk. Internal chemicals generate stress concentration when operated due to turbulence, laminar flow, pressure, temperature, friction, etc. It causes cumulative fatigue damage, which can damage or rupture chemical facilities and devices. The statistics of chemical accidents found that the highest rate of occurrence was in summer, and in the last five years statistics on chemical accidents, leakage incidents make up a decent percentage of accidents. Chemical leaks can cause serious human damage and economic damage, including explosions and environmental pollution. In this study, based on the leak accident of chemical plant, the risk analysis, and damage effects assessment were estimated using a 3D scanner and FLACS. As a result, if chemicals leak in summer, the risk is higher than in other seasons, the seasonal safety management measures, and countermeasure were estimated.

In coupon test of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) as brittle materials, the converted strain derived from total deformation and effective length was introduced and its advantages were described. In general, measured value from strain gauge is used for determining the tensile properties of material, but it is not quite effective in CFRP because brittle material can not redistribute its stress and it only represents local behavior. For this reason, the converted strain response can be utilized effectively as a supplementary indicator, which evaluated the average value of tensile properties in brittle material and confirmed the strain measured by strain gauge. In addition, the converted strain clearly visualized 1) the effect of initial internal strain caused by fabrication errors and setup misalignment when applying gripping force and 2) post-response of partial rupture of CFRP caused by non-uniform strain distribution. non-uniform strain distribution.
Human pregnancy is a delicate and complex process where multiorgan interactions between two independent systems, the mother, and her fetus, maintain pregnancy. Intercellular interactions that can define homeostasis at the various cellular level between the two systems allow uninterrupted fetal growth and development until delivery. Interactions are needed for tissue remodeling during pregnancy at both fetal and maternal tissue layers. One of the mechanisms that help tissue remodeling is via cellular transitions where epithelial cells undergo a cyclic transition from epithelial to mesenchymal (EMT) and back from mesenchymal to epithelial (MET). Two major pregnancy-associated tissue systems that use EMT, and MET are the fetal membrane (amniochorion) amnion epithelial layer and cervical epithelial cells and will be reviewed here. EMT is often associated with localized inflammation, and it is a well-balanced process to facilitate tissue remodeling. Cyclic transition processes are important because a terminal state or the static state of EMT can cause accumulation of proinflammatory mesenchymal cells in the matrix regions of these tissues and increase localized inflammation that can cause tissue damage. Interactions that determine homeostasis are often controlled by both endocrine and paracrine mediators. Pregnancy maintenance hormone progesterone and its receptors are critical for maintaining the balance between EMT and MET. Increased intrauterine oxidative stress at term can force a static (terminal) EMT and increase inflammation that are physiologic processes that destabilize homeostasis that maintain pregnancy to promote labor and delivery of the fetus. However, conditions that can produce an untimely increase in EMT and inflammation can be pathologic. These tissue damages are often associated with adverse pregnancy complications such as preterm prelabor rupture of the membranes (pPROM) and spontaneous preterm birth (PTB). Therefore, an understanding of the biomolecular processes that maintain cyclic EMT-MET is critical to reducing the risk of pPROM and PTB. Extracellular vesicles (exosomes of 40-160 nm) that can carry various cargo are involved in cellular transitions as paracrine mediators. Exosomes can carry a variety of biomolecules as cargo. Studies specifically using exosomes from cells undergone EMT can carry a pro-inflammatory cargo and in a paracrine fashion can modify the neighboring tissue environment to cause enhancement of uterine inflammation.

Accidents prevention and mitigation is the highest priority of nuclear power plant (NPP) operation, particularly in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi accident, which has reignited public anxieties and skepticism regarding nuclear energy usage. To deal with accident scenarios more effectively, operators must have ample and precise information about key safety parameters as well as their future trajectories. This work investigates the potential of machine learning in forecasting NPP response in real-time to provide an additional validation method and help reduce human error, especially in accident situations where operators are under a lot of stress. First, a base-case SGTR simulation is carried out by the best-estimate code RELAP5/MOD3.4 to confirm the validity of the model against results reported in the APR1400 Design Control Document (DCD). Then, uncertainty quantification is performed by coupling RELAP5/MOD3.4 and the statistical tool DAKOTA to generate a large enough dataset for the construction and training of neural-based machine learning (ML) models, namely LSTM, GRU, and hybrid CNN-LSTM. Finally, the accuracy and reliability of these models in forecasting system response are tested by their performance on fresh data. To facilitate and oversee the process of developing the ML models, a Systems Engineering (SE) methodology is used to ensure that the work is consistently in line with the originating mission statement and that the findings obtained at each subsequent phase are valid.
