Purpose: This study examined the relationship between graft appearance on follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and knee stability after double bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Materials and Methods: For each patient, 1.5 tesla MRI's were obtained. The signal intensity of grafts was divided into 3 grades by Sononda's classification. The course of grafts was divided into two patterns: straight and curved. We assessed Lachman test, KT 2000 arthrometer and anterior drawer stress radiograph using Telos$^{(R)}$ in $30^{\circ}$ knee flexion for anterior stability and evaluated pivot shift test for rotatory stability. The correlation between graft appearance on MRI and the results of knee stability tests was evaluated. Results: The anteromedial (AM) graft was evaluated as being grade 1 in 66.7%, grade 2 in 26.7%, and grade 3 in 6.7% of the cases and the posterolateal (PL) graft was assessed as being grade 1 in 63.3%, grade 2 in 33.3%, and grade 3 in 3.3% of the cases according to the signal intensity. The AM graft was evaluated as being straight in 83.3% and curved in 16.7% of the cases, and the PL graft was assessed as being straight in 86.7% and curved in 13.3% of the cases according to the course. The course of AM graft was correlated with the results of anterior stability tests and the course of PL graft was correlated with the result of rotatory stability test. However, the signal intensity of grafts was not correlated with the results of anterior stability and rotatory stability tests. Conclusion: The course of AM is correlated with anterior stability and the course of PL is correlated with rotatory stability on follow-up MRI after double bundle ACL reconstruction.

Mugwort (Artemisia princeps) is a medicinal plant that has a substance called euphatilin, which is effective for cell damage and gastritis recovery. The objectives of this study were to investigate the annual growth characteristics of Artemisia princeps in greenhouse and to increase the eupatiline content by environmental stresses. Growth and eupatilin content of the plants were compared after 6 weeks of seedling and subsequent 8 weeks of greenhouse cultivation. Photosynthesis of mugwort plants did not saturate even at a relatively high light intensity of $1,200{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. Growth rate of the plants reached its highest at two weeks after transplanting and began to decrease since 8 weeks after transplanting. The plants showed typical characteristics of a perennial herbaceous plant as they were sensitive to seasonal changes. In particular, the plants showed high growth and eupatilin content in spring and summer as vegetative growth periods, but flowering and wintering caused considerable decreases in growth and eupatilin content in fall and winter. Therefore, application of night interruption is essential for year-round cultivationof the plant. Two stresses and a elicitor were treated: drought stresses by stopping irrigation at 5, 6, 7, and 8 days before harvest; salt stresses with nutrient solution concentrations of 2, 4, 6, 8, and $10dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ by adding sodium chloride at 3 days before harvest; and foliar applications of methyl jasmonates of 12.5, 25, 50, and $100{\mu}M$ at 3 days before harvest. Significant increase in eupatilin content was observed at drought stresses of 7- and 8-days of irrigation stop and foliar application of $25{\mu}M$ methyl jasmonate, while no significant increase observed at salt stresses. From the results, it was confirmed that the environmental treatments can improve the productivity and quality of Artemisia princeps as a phamaceutical raw material.
The changes in contents of chlorophyll and free proline in the seedling leaves of ten rice cultivars as affected by salt stress were checked in order to obtain the basic information on the judgement of the degrees of salt injury. The difference in salt injury among the cultivars was clearly observed about 25 days after 6% salt treatment. Chlorophyll content was decreased in both Gayabyeo and Taebaegbyeo for 14 days after different salt treatment as salt concentration was increased and the decreased tendency was much higher in Taebaegbyeo than in Gayabyeo over 0.4% salt concentration. Chlorophyll content in Gayabyeo after 0.6% salt treatment was decreased slowly, while in Taebaegbyeo, deminished very rapidly as time progressed, therefore it decreased by about 16% in Gayabyeo and 67% in Taebaebyeo compared to the control at 20 days, respectively. The relationship between chlorophyll content and the degrees of salt injury in ten rice cultivars showed significant negative correlation at 10 day after 0.6% salt treatment. Free proline content in Gayabyeo was increased gradually for 14 days after different salt treatment as salt became higher, while in Taebaebyeo, it was increased rapidly under 0.6% but rather decreased under 0.8% salt concentration. Particularly, it was much higher Taebaegbyeo than in Gayabyeo under salt concentration from 0.4 to 0.6%. Free proline content in Gayabyeo after 0.6% salt treatment was increased from 15 days, on the other hand in Taebaegbyeo, it was increased from 5 days, but rather decreased from 20 days, and it was 6 times higher in Taebaegbyeo than in Gayabyeo at 10 days. There was significant positive correlation between free proline content and the degrees of salt injury in ten rice cultivars at 10 days after 0.6% salt treatment. From the above results, chlorophyll and free proline content may be used as an indicative character of intensity of salt stress as well as varietal difference in resistance to salt stress in the seedling stage.
Objectives: Rapid polymerization of overlying composite resin causes high polymerization shrinkage stress at the adhesive layer. In order to alleviate the shrinkage stress, increasing the light intensity over the first 5 seconds was suggested as an exponential curing mode by an LED light curing unit (Elipar FreeLight2, 3M ESPE). In this study, the effectiveness of the exponential curing mode on reducing stress was evaluated with measuring microtensile bond strength of three adhesives after the overlying composite resin was polymerized with either continuous or exponential curing mode. Methods: Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus (MP, 3M ESPE), Single Bond 2 (SB, 3M ESPE), and Adper Prompt (AP, 3M ESPE) were applied onto the flat occlusal dentin of extracted human molar. The overlying hybrid composite (Denfil, Vericom, Korea) was cured under one of two exposing modes of the curing unit. At 48h from bonding, microtensile bond strength was measured at a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min. The fractured surfaces were observed under FE-SEM. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the microtensile bond strengths of each adhesive between curing methods (Two-way ANOVA, p > 0.05). The microtensile bond strengths of MP and SB were significantly higher than that of AP (p < 0.05). Mixed failures were observed in most of the fractured surfaces, and differences in the failure mode were not observed among groups. Conclusion: The exponential curing method had no beneficial effect on the microtensile dentin bond strengths of three adhesives compared to continuous curing method.

In searching for novel agents for skin anti-aging from natural resources, we found that the extract of the fruiting bodies of Ramaria formosa (R. formosa) had significant antioxidant and human neutrophil elastase (HNE) inhibitory activities. R. formosa extract exhibited a considerable DPPH radical scavenging activity with an antioxidant content of 117.0mg/mL (ascorbic acid equivalents) at the concentration of $500{\mu}g/mL$. The capacity of R. formosa extract to scavenge peroxy radicals measured by ORAC assay also showed dose-dependent antioxidant effect with $ORAC_{Roo}$ (trolox equivalents, $1{\mu}M$) values of 0.8, 5.2, and 7.8 at the concentrations of 1, 10, and $20{\mu}g/mL$. The cellular antioxidant capacity of R. formosa extract was investigated by assaying the cellular fluorescence intensity using dichlorodihydrofluorescein (DCF). The cellular oxidative stress induced by AAPH, $Cu^{2+}$ or $H_2O_2$ in HepG2 cells was significantly attenuated by more than 30% at $20{\mu}g/mL$ of R. formosa extract. HNE activity was reduced by treatment with R. formosa extract in a dose-dependent manner, and the $ED_{50}$ value for the ethanol extract of R. formosa was $42.9{\mu}g/mL$. R. formosa extract did not exhibited antimicrobial activity against four microorganisms including Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis), Escherichia coli (E. coli), Candida albicans (C. albicans), Aspergillus oryzae (A. oryzae). Furthermore, the extract did not affect the inflammatory cytokine production of interleukin-10 and interferon-${\gamma}$ in NK92 cells. From the above results, we found that R. formosa extract has considerable antioxidant and elastase inhibitory effects, and does not stimulate immune cells. These findings suggest that R. formosa extract may be used as a bioactive component in cosmetic composition.
Wilting and transpiration charactistics of Panax ginseng leaves were investigated at two temperature levels. Water potential and water absorption characteristics of leaf segments were also observed. Soybean leaves were compared. 1. Ginseng leaves were thiner, higher in water content and lower in dehydration rate. But time required to reach permanent wilting point (pwp) was less than half of that of soybean leaves because water content at pwp was about two times higher (80% of initial water for ginseng and 50% for soybean leaves). The time was shorter under high air temperature. 2. Transpiration rate was about a quater of soybean leaves and lower at $33^{\circ}C$ than $23^{\circ}C$, indicating that ginseng leaves are less tolorant to high air temperature. 3. Ginseng leaf segment showed smaller water free space but greater water deficit and little difference in was absorption rate. 4. Water potential of leaves measured by liquid immersion method was lower than that of soybean leaves. 5. Above results strongly suggest that ginseng plants are more susceptible to water stress. Thus greater light intensity during leaf growing stage (April to June) is recommendable to increase stomate frequency resulting greater transpiration rate and high temperature tolerance during July and August. Abundant water around roots seems to be beneficial as long as oxygen is not limited in rhizosphere.
Oxidative stress by free radicals is a major cause of neuronal cell death. Excitotoxicity in hypoxia/ischemia causes an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and a loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), resulting in dysfunction of the mitochondria and cell death. Pinelliae Rhizoma (PR) is a traditional medicine for incipient stroke. We investigated the effects of PR Water-Extract on the modulation of ROS and MMP in a hypoxic model using cultured rat cortical cells. PR Water-Extract was added to the culture medium at various concentrations (0.25${\sim}$5, 5.0 ${\mu}g/ml$) on day in vitro 12(DIV12), given a hypoxic shock (2% $O_2$/5% $CO_2$, $37^{\circ}C$, 3 hr), and cell viability was assessed on DIV15 by Lactate Dehydrogenase Assay (LDH assays). PR Water-Extract showed a statistically significant effect on neuroprotection (10${\sim}$15% increase in viability; p<0.01) at 1.0 and 2.5 ${\mu}g/ml$ in normoxia and hypoxia. Measurement of ROS production by $H_2DCF-DA$ stainings showed that PR Water-Extract efficiently reduced the number and intensity of ROS-producing neurons, especially at 1 hr post shock and DIV15. When MMP was measured by JC-1 stainings, PR Water-Extract efficiently maintained high-energy charged mitochondria. These results indicate that PR Water-Extract protects neurons in hypoxia by preventing ROS production and preserving the cellular energy level.

This study attempted to provide basic data for screening high-risk subjects by confirming suicidal thinking intensity and by identifying its influential factors in mid-aged men. Data No.3 from third National Health and Nutrition Survey in 2012 by the CDCP were used with 40-64 years middle-aged men targets. The collected data were analyzed via applying weight by using the complex sample analysis method of SPSS 19.0 program, frequency analysis, cross-analysis, and logistic regression analysis. The result revealed that 10% of middle-aged men showed suicidal thinking, and low-income earners had suicidal thinking 1.972 times higher than usual, the unmarried 2.587 times higher than men with spouses, men without spouses 1.482 times higher than men with spouses, the underweighted 18.183 times higher the obese. The blue-collared and the unemployed had suicidal thinking 1.349 and 13.342 times higher than the white-collared respectively. Furthermore, inactive subjects showed suicidal thinking 2.998 times higher than active subjects. Therefore, to prevent suicide in mid-aged men, separating these high-risk subjects in primary screening is needed for management, and suicide prevention programs should be developed at social and political level that include the information considering stress, depression, and obesity.

GaN-based nitride semiconductors have attracted considerable attention in high-brightness light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes (LDs) covering from green to ultraviolet spectral range. LED and LD heterostructures are usually grown on (0001)-$Al_2O_3$. The large lattice mismatch between $Al_2O_3$ substrates and the GaN layers leads to a high density of defects(dislocations and stacking faults). Moreover, Ga and N atoms are arranged along the polar [0001] crystallographic direction, which leads to spontaneous polarization. In addition, in the InGaN/GaN MQWs heterostructures, stress applied along the same axis can also give rise to piezoelectric polarization. The total polarization, which is the sum of spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations, is aligned along the [0001] direction of the wurtzite heterostructures. The change in the total polarization across the heterolayers results in high interface charge densities and spatial separation of the electron and hole wave functions, redshifting the photoluminescence peak and decreasing the peak intensity. The effect of polarization charges in the GaN-based heterostructures can be eliminated by growing along the non-polar [$11\bar{2}0$] (a-axis) or [$1\bar{1}00$] (m-axis) orientation instead of thecommonly used polar [0001] (c-axis). For non-polar GaN growth on non-polar substrates, the GaN films have high density of planar defects (basal stacking fault BSFs, prismatic stacking fault PSFs), because the SFs are formed on the basal plane (c-plane) due to their low formation energy. A significant reduction in defect density was recently achieved by applying blocking layer such as SiN, AlN, and AlGaN in non-polar GaN. In this work, we were performed systematic studies of the defects in the nonpolar GaN by conventional and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

With different salt concentration (18, 22, 26 & 30%), the changes of the chemical components for fermentation of the Korean native and modified soy sauce were investigated. Color intensity (absorband and pH were lower in the modified soysauce than in the native one. Total nitrogen content was high in the modified soysauce and with the lower salt concentration. Reducing sugar and total nitrogen were produced more in the modified soysauce. Reducing sugar attained to the maximum content at 4 wee and thereafter decreased. Total volatile acid in the higher salt concentration was produced much in the initial stage and decreased until 4 weeks, but slowly increased thereafter. Acetic acid showed the higher yield in the modified soysauce. Butyric acid and propionic acid were produced 18 and 19 times more the native soysauce than in the modified soysauce, and those were produced much with the lower salt concentration.
