In general, a three dimensional ground behaviour during tunneling is simulated by using two dimensional analysis programs in consideration of a certain ratio of stress or strain distribution to take into account the effect of construction stage by a tunnel face advance. A series of trree dimensional analyses was conducted to deduce a normalized displacement (surface or crown settlement) curve in longitudinal direction, of which curve is reflecting an effect of a tunnel advance under a various condition. And, by using try and error technique, two dimensional analyses were carried out to determine an optimum stress distribution ratio for a settiement curve coincided with the curve obtained by three dimensional analyses. Finally, monitored results from a subway tunnel were compared with two dimensional analysis results for varification of the deduced stress distribution ratio as well as the two dimensional analysis program employed in this study.
The effects of material nonhomogeneity and nonisothermal conditions on the stress response of pressurized tubes are assessed by virtue of a computational model. The modulus of elasticity, the Poisson's ratio, the yield strength, and the coefficient of thermal expansion, are assumed to vary nonlinearly in the tube. A logarithmic temperature distribution within the tube is proposed. Under these conditions, it is shown that the stress states and the magnitudes of response variables are affected significantly by both the material nonhomogeneity and the existence of the radial temperature gradient.
The aim of this study is to analyze the mechanical characteristics and settlement feature of the composite ground with structural form changes. The laboratory model test is a soil tanker to be contained with clay and grid form improved soil, which is conducted in total 9 case with the uniaxial compressive strength of improved soil and replacement ratio of improved soil. The numerical analysis for variation of stress distribution ratio with depth was performed in the same conditions which are the laboratory model test. As a result, stress distribution ratios in mid and high replacement ratio are increasing and settlement is decreasing, except low replacement ratio. This study is presented for form effect ratio and settlement reduction factor with change of structure form, which is able to be helpful in further research and reference for change of structural forms at composite ground.
The effect of particle breakage and intermediate principal stress ratio on the behaviour of crushable granular assemblies under true triaxial stress conditions is studied using the discrete element method. Numerical results show that the increase of intermediate principal stress ratio $b(b=({\sigma}_2-{\sigma}_3)/({\sigma}_1-{\sigma}_3))$ results in the increase of dilatancy at low confining pressures but the decrease of dilatancy at high confining pressures, which stems from the distinct increasing compaction caused by breakage with b. The influence of b on the evolution of the peak apparent friction angle is also weakened by particle breakage. For low relative breakage, the relationship between the peak apparent friction angle and b is close to the Lade-Duncan failure model, whereas it conforms to the Matsuoka-Nakai failure model for high relative breakage. In addition, the increasing tendency of relative breakage, calculated based on a fractal particle size distribution with the fractal dimension being 2.5, declines with the increasing confining pressure and axial strain, which implies the existence of an ultimate graduation. Finally, the relationship between particle breakage and plastic work is found to conform to a unique hyperbolic correlation regardless of the test conditions.
The residual stresses in the interface region of the Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC)/Thermally Grown Oxide (TGO)/Bond Coat (BC) were calculated on the TBC-coated superalloy samples using a Finite Element Method (FEM). It was found that the stress distribution of the interface boundary was dependent upon mainly the geometrical shape or its aspect ratio and the thickness of TGO layer, which was formed by growth and swelling behavior of oxide layer. Maximum compressive residual stress in the TBC/TGO interface is higher than that of the TGO/bond coat interface, and the tensile stress had nothing to do with change of an aspect ratio. The compressive residual stresses in the TBC/TGO and TGO/bond coat interface region increased gradually with the TGO growth.

In this paper, the temperature distribution and thermal stress analysis of 50kVA pole cast resin transformer for power distribution are investigated by FEM program. The one body molding model (Model 1) and air duct model (Model 2) are designed and their temperature distribution are analysed. The temperature rise value is about 105.5 deg in the model 1 and 65.28 de in the model 2. The temperature change of secondary winding is more than primary winding according to load ratio. The concentration part of Von Mises Stress occurs at interface between glass fiber and epoxy.

For the improvement of safety and endurance in welded steel structure, it is needed to consider welding residual stress distribution and rolling directional characteristics of materials. In this study, it was investigated experimentally about characteristics of fatigue crack propagation according to welding residual stress and rolling in FCAW(flux cored arc welding) butt-jointed steel plates. SS400 steel plates of 3mm thickness were selected and tested for this study. When the angles between tensile loading direction and rolling direction in welded materials are increased from $0^{\circ}\;to\;90^{\circ}$, their fatigue crack propagation rates are increased. These results are same as predicted increments of fatigue crack propagation rate when stress ratio is increased from 0 to 0.5. When the angles of rolling direction and welding direction to tensile loading direction are $0^{\circ}\;and\;90^{\circ}$ respectively, fatigue crack propagation rate in welded material is lowest.
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the stress distribution and deformation in implant abutments made from titanium (Ti-6Al-4V), zirconia, and polyetheretherketone (PEEK), including their screws and fixtures, under various loading conditions using finite element analysis (FEA). Methods: Three-dimensional models of the mandible with implant abutments were created using Siemens NX software (NX10.0.0.24, Siemens). FEA was conducted using Abaqus to simulate occlusal loads and assess stress distribution and deformation. Material properties such as Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio were assigned to each component based on literature and experimental data. Results: The FEA results revealed distinct stress distribution patterns among the materials. Titanium alloy abutments exhibited the highest stress resistance and the most uniform stress distribution, making them highly suitable for long-term stability. Zirconia abutments showed strong mechanical properties with higher stress concentration, indicating potential vulnerability to fracture despite their aesthetic advantages. PEEK abutments demonstrated the least stress resistance and higher deformation compared to other abutment materials, but offered superior shock absorption, though they posed a higher risk of mechanical failure under high load conditions. Conclusion: The study emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate materials for dental implants. Titanium offers durability and uniform stress distribution, making it highly suitable for long-term stability. Zirconia provides aesthetic benefits but has a higher risk of fracture compared to titanium. PEEK excels in shock absorption but has a higher risk of mechanical failure compared to both titanium and zirconia. These insights can guide improved implant designs and material choices for various clinical needs.
The use of a petaloid design for the bottom of carbonated poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) bottles is widely spread. This study investigated the causes of bottom cracks. The tensile yield stress variations of PET according to the crystallinity and stretch ratio were examined, then the stretch ratio and strength in the bottom area of a blown bottle were analyzed. A crack test was also performed to observe the cracking phenomena. The distribution of the effective stress and maximum principal stress were both examined using computer simulation to seek the influence of the bottom design on crack. It was concluded that the bottom cracks occurred because of inadequate material strength due to the insufficient stretching of PET, plus the coarse design of a petaloid bottom. The stretch ratio at the bottom during bottle blowing should be higher than the strain hardening point of PET to produce enhanced mechanical strength. The cracks in the bottom of the PET bottles occurred through crazing below the yield stress. The maximum principal stress was higher in the valleys of the petaloid bottom than in the rest bottom area, and the maximum principal stress had a strong effect on the cracks.
It is important to increase the economy and efficiency of the diaphragm of the steel box girder bridge design. In this study, an experimental test is performed in a 4-span steel box girder bridge, which was under constructed according to the dead load of slab concrete and vehicle load. The test result is analyzed to verify the stress distribution of the diaphragm and the middle span. Next, stresses on the vertical stiffener are analyzed according to height. Stresses on the diaphragm with equal height are arranged respectively. Also, the stress distribution of the diaphragm and the middle span. Next, stress on the vertical stiffeners are analyzed according to height. Stresses on the diaphragm with equal height are arranged respectively. Also, the vertical stiffeners in the diaphragm was studied, and using the analyzed results, the proper length of the ratio of vehicle load with curing concrete to vehicle load with asphalt is calculated in each part of the steel box girder bridge. The results provide data that serve as basis for an economical and efficient design for the steel box girder bridge diaphragm.
