  • Changes in viscosity and dynamic theological properties of Job's-tears were measured by Bohlin dynamic tester as a function of moisture, and measurement was performed within a linear viscoelastic range. The result of the shear stress vs shear rate of Job's-tears at different moisture contents $(50{\sim}75%)$ was applied to mathematical models and Herschel-Bulkley model showed the highest correlation coefficient. Lower moisture content (55%) produced higher yield stress and consistency index, but lower flow behavior index, whereas higher moisture content showed reverse effects. Job's-tears with $50{\sim}70%$ moisture contents showed a higher storage modulus (G') than loss modulus (G') at all frequencies, showing a higher concentrated polymer characteristics. However, higher moisture content (>75%) showed crossover point between G' and G', and frequency dependency. As the moisture content was increased, the amount of viscoelastic properties such as G', G', complex viscosity decreased during heating, and initial temperature and miximum value of viscoelastic properties shifted to higher temperatures, representing the moisture-dependence of Job's-tears upon theological properties.

  • The present study was aimed to investigate the dependence of fatigue property on microporosity variation of low-pressure die-cast (LPDC) A356 alloy. The fatigue property of A356 alloy was evaluated through high cycle fatigue test, and the microporosity-terms used were the fractographic porosity measured from SEM observation on fractured surface and the volumetric porosity obtained through the density measurement using Archimedes's principle. The number of cycles to failure of A356 alloys depends obviously upon the variation of fractographic porosity, and can describe in terms of the defect susceptibility which depends on the microporosity variation at a given value of stress amplitude. The modified Basquin's equation was suggested through the combination of microporosity variation and static maximum tensile stress to fatigue strength coefficient. Using modified Basquin's equation, it could suggest that the maximum values of fatigue strength coefficient and exponent achievable in defect-free condition of A356 alloy are 265 MPa, -0.07, respectively.

  • Bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi:YIG, $Bi_{0.5}Y_{2.5}Fe_5O_{12}$) films were deposited with aerosol deposition method and their magnetic and optical properties were investigated as a function of annealing temperature. Since the ceramic films deposited with aerosol deposition method have not a perfect crystal structure due to non-uniform internal stress occurred by mechanical collision during their deposition, the post annealing could be a key process to release its internal stress and to improve its micro structure for optimizing the magnetic and magneto-optic properties of films. The crystallinity of Bi: YIG film was improved with increase of annealing temperature, and the saturation magnetization increased up to 87 emu/cc at $800^{\circ}C$. The Faraday rotation increased up to $1.4deg/{\mu}m$ by annealing at $700^{\circ}C$ around the wavelength of $0.5{\mu}m$. The optical transmittance of the Bi:YIG film was also improved in visible region.

  • An energy based crack growth model is developed in this study to simulate the propagation of top-down cracking in asphalt pavements. A viscoelastic fracture mechanics approach, generalized J integral, is employed to model the crack growth of asphalt concrete. Laboratory fatigue crack propagation tests for three different asphalt mixtures are performed at various load levels, frequencies and temperatures. Disk-shaped specimens with a proper loading fixture and crack growth monitoring system are selected for the tests. It is observed from the tests that the crack propagation model based on the generalized J integral is independent of load levels and frequencies, while the traditional Paris' law model based on stress intensity factor is dependent of loading frequencies. However, both models are unable to take care of the temperature dependence of the mixtures. The fatigue crack propagation model proposed in this study has a good agreement between experimental and predicted crack growth lives, which implies that the energy based J integral could be a better parameter to describe fatigue crack propagation of viscoelastic materials such as asphalt mixtures.

  • The study was conducted to evaluate reliability of the longitudinal tensile properties of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced composites. Two kinds of carbon fiber reinforced composites laminates were tested in order to examine the factors of variability and have the information concerning reliability improvement. Temperature dependence of the strength and its variability were investigated by means of testing at two kinds of temperatures. Statistical distributions of the respective mechanical properties were obtained from the tensile tests. As a result, strength of composites was directly proportional to the ultimate strain and was not proportional to the elastic modulus. The fracture behavior in bending of notched plate was studied for a composite material. The uniform bending tests of notched plates have been carried out for a wide range of notch radii. The experiment shows that the nominal stress at failure decreased with decreasing notch radius and it approaches a constant value when the notch radius is less than about 0.3mm. The critical maximum stress is governed by notch root radius alone in the case of a constant thickness of specimen.

  • Prestressed concrete bridges with corrugated steel webs have emerged as one of the promising bridge forms. This structural form provides excellent structural efficiency with the concrete flanges primarily taking bending and the corrugated steel webs primarily taking shear. In the design of this type of bridges, the flexural ductility and deformability as well as strength need to be carefully examined. Evaluation of these safety-related attributes requires the estimation of full-range behaviour. In this study, the full-range behaviour of beam sections with corrugated steel webs is evaluated by means of a nonlinear analytical method which uses the actual stress-strain curves of the materials and considers the path-dependence of materials. In view of the different behaviour of components and the large shear deformation of corrugated steel webs with negligible longitudinal stiffness, the assumption that plane sections remain plane may no longer be valid. The interaction between shear deformation and local bending of flanges may cause additional stress in flanges, which is considered in this study. The numerical results obtained are compared with experimental results for verification. A parametric study is undertaken to clarify the effects of various parameters on ductility, deformability and strength.

  • In this paper, the dependence of MOSFET performance on the channel stress is characterized in depth. The tensile and compressive stresses are applied to CMOSFET using a nitride film which is used for the contact etch stop layer (CESL). Drain current of NMOS and PMOS is increased by inducing tensile and compressive stress, respectively, due to the increased mobility as well known. In case of NMOS with tensile stress, both decrease of the back scattering ratio ($\tau_{sat}$) and increase of the thermal injection velocity ($V_{inj}$) contribute the increase of mobility. It is also shown that the decrease of the $\tau_{sat}$ is due to the decrease of the mean free path ($\lambda_O$). On the other hand, the mobility improvement of PMOS with compressive stress is analyzed to be only due to the so increased $V_{inj}$ because the back scattering ratio is increased by the compressive stress. Therefore it was confirmed that the device performance has a strong dependency on the channel back scattering of the inversion layer and thermal injection velocity at the source side and NMOS and PMOS have different dependency on them.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of parenting stress on marital conflict in dual earner couples with children in early childhood. Actor and Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) was conducted in order to identify how parenting stress affect husband and wife, respectively and how this make the actor effect as well as the partner effect regarding the marital conflict. The research was conducted with 629 married couples from the forth wave of the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) data. In order to examine the relationships between the variables and to evaluate the appropriateness of the research model, structural equation model was used. The results showed that the parenting stress had significant positive effect on the marital conflict. The partner effect of parenting stress was significantly positive. This result implies that the mutual dependence in dual earner couple's marital conflict and parenting stress should be considered in the process of intervention. In other words, to improve the effectiveness of intervention, practitioners should treat couples together rather than being focused on individuals.

  • $Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ thin films of $1.5{\mu}m$ thickness were grown on $Pt/Ti/Gd_3Ga_5O_{12}$ substrate by RF magnetron sputtering at annealing temperatures ranging from $550^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$. We evaluated the residual stress, by using a William-Hall plot, as a function of the annealing temperatures of PZT thin film with a constant thickness. As a result, the residual stresses of PZT thin film of $1.5{\mu}m$ thickness were changed by varying the annealing temperature. Also, we measured the hysteresis characteristic of PZT thin films of $1.5{\mu}m$ thickness to evaluate for application of an optoelectronic device.

  • In this paper, we investigated the dependence of HCI (Hot Carrier Immunity) degradation and device performance on channel orientation in sub-micron PMOSFET. Although device performance ($I_{D.sat}$ vs. $I_{Off}$) was improved as the transistor angle increased HC immunity was degraded. Therefore, consideration of reliability characteristics as well as dc device performance is highly necessary in channel stress engineering of next generation CMOSFETs.
