  • In this paper, the evaluation equations proposed by Tange et al. and Ando et al. were used to evaluate the threshold stress intensity factor ∆KRth(s) and fatigue limit ∆𝜎Rwc, according to the small crack of offshore structural steel F690. Despite the differences in concept and shape of the two equations, the ∆KRth(s) and ∆𝜎Rwc proved completely consistent. It is possible to use these equations to evaluate the dependence of the crack length on the ∆KRth(s) and ∆𝜎Rwc of structures made of all steel grades. With these equations, the characteristics of microcracks can be quantitatively evaluated, and the safety and reliability of the structure can be secured.

  • In this study, a simple method for the determination of the shear correction factor for composites beam with a rectangular cross section is presented. The plane stress elasticity assumption is used after simplifications of the expression of the stress distribution in the beam. The different fiber orientation angle and volume fraction are considered in this work. The studied structure is subjected to various loading type (thermal and hygrothermal). The numerical results obtained show that there is a dependence of the shear coefficient on the orientation of the fibers. The evolution of the shear correction factors depends not only on the orientation of the fibers and also on the volume fraction and the environment. the advantage of this developed formula of the shear correction factor is to obtain more precise results and to consider several parameters influencing this factor which are neglected if the latter is constant.

  • The development of radish collectors has the potential to increase radish yields while decreasing the time and dependence on human labor in a variety of field activities. Stress and fatigue analyses are essential to ensure the optimal design and machine life of any agricultural machinery. The objectives of this research were to analyze the stress and fatigue of major components of a tractor-mounted radish collector under dynamic load conditions in an effort to increase the design dependability and dimensions of the materials. An experiment was conducted to measure the shaft torque of stem-cutting and transferring conveyor motors using rotary torque sensors at different tractor ground speeds with and without a load. The Smith-Watson-Topper mean stress equation and the rain-flow counting technique were utilized to determine the required shear stress with the distribution of the fatigue life cycle. The severity of the operation was assessed using Miner's theory. All running conditions produced more than 107 of high cycle fatigue strength. Furthermore, the highest severity levels for motor shafts used for stem cutting and transferring and for transportation joints and cutting blades were 2.20, 4.24, 2.07, and 1.07, and 1.97, 3.81, 1.73, and 1.07, respectively, with and without a load condition, except for 5.24 for a winch motor shaft under a load. The stress and fatigue analysis presented in this study can aid in the selection of the most appropriate design parameters and material sizes for the successful construction of a tractor-mounted radish collector, which is currently under development.

  • The rate of delayed hydride cracking (DHC), V, has been measured in cold-worked and stress-relieved Zircaloy-4 fuel cladding using the Pin-Loading Tension technique. At $250^{\circ}C$ the mean value of V from 69 specimens was $3.3({\pm}0.8)x10^{-8}$ m/s while the temperature dependence up to $275^{\circ}C$ was described by Aexp(-Q/RT), where Q is 48.3 kJ/mol. No cracking or cracking at very low rates was observed at higher temperatures. The fracture surface consisted of flat fracture with no striations. The results are compared with previous results on fuel cladding and pressure tubes.

  • In order to understand the package crack emanating from the edge of leadframe after the delamination between leadframe and epoxy molding compound in an electronic packaging of surface mounting type, the M-integral and J-integral in fracture mechanics are obtained. The effects of geometry, material properties and molding process temperature on the package crack are investigated taking into account the temperature dependence of the material properties, which simulates a more realistic condition. If the temperature dependence of the material properties is considered the result of analysis conforms with observations that the crack is kinked at between 50 and 65 degree. However, in case of constant material properties at the room temperature it is found that the J-integral is underestimated and the kink crack angle is different form the observation. The effects of the material properties and molding process temperature on J-integral and crack angle are less significant that the chip size for the cases considered here. It is suggested that the geometric factors such as ship size, leadframe size are to be well designed in order to prevent(or control) the occurrence and propagation of the package crack.

  • This study verified the effect of a combined forest/thermal therapy (FT/TT) program on participants with depressive symptoms and smoking or alcohol dependence. The participants included 20 people in the experimental group and 18 people in the control group. The experimental group participated in the FT/TT program for 2 nights and 3 days at the National Center for Forest Healing, in Hoengseong (National Hoengseong Supchewon), and a charcoal kiln operated by the Gangwon Charcoal Farming Association. The control group carried out their daily life for the same period. Psychological, physiological, and biochemical tests were conducted to determine the effect of the program. The results showed that there were significant improvements in stress, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, sleep satisfaction, and IL-6 levels. However, no significant difference was found in the cortisol, serotonin and melatonin levels between the experimental and control groups. Thus, the FT/TT therapy had psychological and biochemical effects on individuals with depression and nicotine or alcohol dependency. Further studies should be conducted to verify the effect of forest healing in various conditions.

  • The study was undertaken to determine the antagonism of the AP1700 on the development of nalbuphine-induced tolerance and physical dependence. AP1700 is an oriental drug preparationcomposed of 5 natural products and is known to have antinarcotic action with an oral dose of 250 mg/kg in rats. AP1700 significantly inhibits the development of antinarcotic action with an oral dose of 250 mg/kg in rats. AP1700 significantly inhibits the development of nalbuphine-induced physical dependence but does not the tolerance. Mitogen-activated protein kinase, which include extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), p38 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)/stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) play critical roles in cell growth and survival and drug abuse. The level of pCREB was elevated in the hippocampus by the chronic treatment with nalbuphine, however, the elevation of pCREB was not inhibited by the AP1700 co-treatment. Interestingly, the level of pERK was decreased in the co-treatment with nalbuphine and AP1700 on the cortex and striatum. However, the level of nNOS and NR1 was not modulated by the treatment with nalbuphine or AP1700 on the cortex, hippocampus and striatum in the rat brain. These results suggest that the AP1700 could be used to ameliorate the nalbuphine withdrawal symptoms.

  • Since manufacturing and supplying corporations today come to view their practice of SCM as important, it becomes essential to analyze and control the structural relationship between the information sharing among corporations and the performances resulting from their practice of SCM. It is thus the purpose of this paper to examine the factors that may prompt corporations to implement SCM by means of analyses into the relationship between information sharing and practice of SCM which corporations should lay stress on as well as the relationship between financial and non-financial performances of corporations. The findings of the study can be summed up as follows: First, as for the relationship between information sharing among and practice of SCM by corporations, information sharing among corporations turned out to affect such factors of implementing their SCM as trust, commitment mutual dependence. Consequently, corporations are requested to endeavor to implement SCM itself faithfully if they really aim to achieve their performances by practice of SCM and, at the same time, to make efforts to obtain understanding and support for information sharing among themselves. Second, from the analysis of the relationship between SCM and financial as well as non-financial performances of corporations, it was found that trust, a factor of SCM practice, had influence upon non-financial performances of corporations, but not upon their financial performances, while commitment and mutual dependence affected both financial and non-financial achievements of corporations. Therefore, it was made clear from the analysis that the decision and systematic control of SCM activities which best suit to a corporation play an important role in improving its financial and non-financial performances, because they greatly depend on the implementing extent of SCM factors such as trust, commitment and mutual dependence among corporations.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the quality of life of caretaking family members who have a patient with psychiatric disorders. The results will be served as a basic data of ameliorating the quality of life of caregivers. Methods: 78 caretaking family members who have a patient with schizophrenia and 54 caretaking family members who have a patient with alcohol dependence, a total of 132 persons completed the questionnaire, and analyzed. The Korean version of the SmithKline Beecham Quality of Life Scale and the Family Burden Scale were applied. Results: There was no statistically significant correlation between burden and sex, age, income, and duration of living with patients before onset. The male caregiver showed higher quality of life than that of female. It showed statistically significant correlation between age and factor physical well-being and factor activity. 41% of variance of quality of life of caregivers were explained by the stress response, burden, and overall merits of the field of psychiatry, and the tension had the most explanatory power. Conclusion: The chronic illness may give a burden on caregivers, and that decrease the quality of life of caregivers. The longer duration of illness of patients, the lower quality of life of caregivers on competence factor. Therefore, the authors recommend the therapeutic modality must be offered to the caregivers who may experience the stress and burden.

  • Hot restoration mechanism flow stress and stain of the Al2024 composites reinforced with 1,8,15,36, and $44{\mu}m\;SiC_p$(10 vol. %) were studied by hot torsion tests. The hot restoration mechanism of all the composites was found to be dynamic recrystallization(DRX) at $320^{\circ}C$ while that of the composites reinforced with 1 and $8{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ was found to be dynamic recovery(DRX) at $480^{\circ}C$. It was found that the Al2024 composite with $15{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ showed the highest flow stress(${\sim}$223 MPa) at $320^{\circ}C$ under a strain rate of 1.0/sec. Also the highest flow strain of the composites was obtained at $430^{\circ}C$. The com-posites reinforced with 1 and $8{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ showed lower flow stress and higher flow strain at $480^{\circ}C$ than those of the composites reinforced with 15, 36, and $44\;{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ These result were discussed in relation to the transition of the hot restoration mechanism. $DRX{\leftrightarrow}DRV$. The dependence of flow stress on strain rate and temperature was attempted to fit with the hyperbolic sine equation ($\dot{\varepsilon}=A[sinh({\alpha}{\cdot}{\sigma}_p]^n$ exp(-Q/RT)and Zener-Hollomon parameter($Z=\;\dot{\varepsilon}\;exp(Q/RT))$.
