The water extract of Dohongsamul-Tang(DHSMT) has been traditionally used to stroke and brain injuries in Oriental Medicine. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of DHSMT on the gene expression profile of cerebral infarction by cDNA microarray in photothrombotic ischemia mouse model. Photothrombotic ischemia was induced in stereotactically held male BALB/c mice using rose bengal and cold light. MRI was performed 24 hours after inducing photothrombosis using 1.5 T MRI and 47 mm surface coil to obtain T2-weighted, and contrast-enhanced images. After MRI test, animal was sacrificed and the brain sections were stained for hematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemistry. MRI and histological analysis revealed that lesion of thrombotic ischemia was well induced in the cortex with the evidence of biological courses of infarction. The target area of thrombotic infarction was 1 mm anterior to bregma and 3 mm lateral to midline with 2 mm in diameter, which were decreased by administration of DHSMT. To assess gene expression pattern of cerebral infarction, mRNA was isolated and reacted with microarray chip(Agilant's DNA Microarray 44K). Scatter and MA plot analysis were performed to clustering of each functional genes. M value [M=log2(R/G), A={log2(R ${\times}$ G)}/2] was between -0.5 and +0.5 with 40% difference. After pretreatment with DHSMT, the expression levels of mRNA of many genes involved in various signaling pathway such as apoptosis, cell cycle, cell proliferation, response to oxidative stress, immune response, angiogenesis, and inflammatory cytokine were markedly inhibited in photothrombotic ischemia lesion compared to the control group. These results suggest that DHSMT prevent ischemic death of brain on photothrombotic ischemia model of mice through modulation of gene expression at the transcriptional level.

Distraction osteogenesis(DO) is defined as a gradual mechanical process of mechanical stretching two vascularized bone surface apart with a critical rate and rhythm such that new bone forms within the expanding gap, reliably bridges the gap, and ultimately remodels to normal structure. DO has become a mainstay in bone tissue engineering and has significantly improved our armamentarium for reconstructive craniomaxillofacial procedures. But the molecular and biological mechanisms that regulate the formation of new bone during distraction osteogenesis are not completely understood. BMPs are potent osteoinductive agents. Our hypothesis was that BMPs, especially BMP-2 and BMP-4, might play an importent role in the signaling pathways that link the mechanical forces created by distraction to biological responses and in promting new bone formation. Using a rabbit's mandible, we investigated the expression of BMP-2, -4 at different time points during distraction osteogenesis. The purpose of this study is to research the pattern of expression of BMP-2, -4 in new bone formation during distraction osteogenesis of the rabbit mandible. The experimental group was applied gradual distraction (0.7mm a day by twice a day, 4.9mm in total, for 7 days) and the control group was carried out osteotomy alone. They were examined clinically, histologically, and by RT-PCR analysis. On 3 days after osteotomy, the high level of expression of BMP-2, -4 was detected. But, the expression of BMP-4 was decreased during latency period. As distraction was started, its expression was increased and maintained till postoperative 28days. In control group, the expression of BMP-4was remarkably decreased till postoperative 14 days. On the other hand, the expression of BMP-2 was no difference between experimental group and control group. The expression of BMP-4 was maintanined at high level during the entire experimental period in both group. These findings suggested that excellent bone formation during distraction osteogenesis is associated with enhanced expression of BMP-4 genes by mechanical tension stress.
The purpose of this study was to observe the difference and patterns of relationship between parents-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law based on the perceived agreement of quality of relationship and communication. A total of 138 dyad relationships between parents-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law from Seoul, Kyunggi-Do, and Cholla-Do were analyzed. The study results showed that parents-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law perceived their relationship as an average and above and parents-in-law perceived their relationship more positively than daughters-in-law. A total of 4 clusters were categorized by cluster analysis based on the agreement of perceived relationship and communication: parents-in-law perceived their relationship positively but daughters-in-law were not(cluster 1), daughters-in-law perceived their relationship positively but parents-in-law were not(cluster 2), both parents-in-law and daughters-in-law perceived their relationship positively(cluster 3), both parents-in-law and daughters-in-law perceived their relationship negatively(cluster 4). In order to observe the characteristics of relationship patterns, ANOVA were performed. Cultural competency of parents-in-law appeared to relate to their relationship with daughters-in-law. Acculturative stress of daughters-in-law who have good relationship with their parents-in-law was low and marital satisfaction of them was high. In addition, life satisfaction of parents-in-law who have good relationship with their daughters-in-law was high. Implication of this study was discussed.

In this study, flexural tests of prestressed high strength spun concrete (PHC) piles reinforced with infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars were conducted, where the longitudinal rebar ratio and the presence of sludge formed on the inner surface of PHC pile were set as key test variables. A total of six PHC pile specimens were manufactured, and their flexural behaviors including failure mode, crack pattern, longitudinal strain distribution in a section and end slip between external PHC pile and infilled concrete were measured and discussed in detail. The test results revealed that the flexural stiffness and strength increased as the longitudinal rebar ratio became larger, and that the sludge formed on the inner surface of PHC pile did not show any detrimental effect on the flexural performance. In addition to the experimental approach, this study presents a nonlinear flexural analysis model considering compatibility conditions and strain and stress distributions of the PHC piles and infilled concrete. The rationality of the nonlinear flexural analysis model was verified by comparing it with test results, and it appeared that the proposed model well evaluated the flexural behavior of PHC piles reinforced with infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars with a good accuracy.

This study was undertaken the effect of high temperature and high humidity on protein expression and especially plasma membrane (PM) $H^{+}ATPase$ of umbel with flowers of early cultivar 'Shinsunhwang' and intermediate cultivar 'Maebsihwang' of onion (Allium cepa L.). There were no visible any difference on the protein pattern from before flowering stage to full flowering stage of two onion cultivars, however, seed set stages were revealed induced/deduced protein patterns. At day 18, protein expression pattern of the high temperature and high humidity treatments of two cultivars was significantly reduced compared to controls. Furthermore, various protein expression of the high temperature treatment was more reduced compared to high humidity treatment. PM $H^{+}ATPase$ expression of the control plants of two onion cultivars was clearly shown, but was not detectable under high temperature treatment of the two onion cultivars using western blot analysis. PM $H^{+}ATPase$ expression of the high humidity treatment was faintly detected intermediate cultivar 'Maebsihwang', not early cultivar 'Shinsunhwang'. These results indicate that protein expression pattern and PM $H^{+}ATPase$ under high temperature treatment was considered to be more damaged compared to high humidity.

Fish-meat gel is an intermediate product used in a variety of surimi-based seafood. One of the most-used raw materials of fish-meat gel is Alaska Pollock due to its high-quality meat in terms of gel strength and texture. However, increasing demand for fish-meat gel, along with overexploitation of the wild catch Alaska Pollock, has put the industry in need of low-cost sustainable alternative sources for fish-meat gel. Pagrus major (PM) is a widely aquacultured fish known for having white meat that is low in fat. The current study compares the quality of fish-meat gel prepared from aquacultured PM to that of high and mid-grade Alaska Pollock fish-meat gel. Gels were compared in terms of gel strength, texture, color, and protein pattern. Results indicated that fish-meat gels prepared from PM were superior to Alaska Pollock fish-meat gels with regard to gel strength, hardness, springiness, chewiness, cutting strength, and breaking force. In addition, although not matching in quality, PM exhibited a cohesiveness, whiteness, and expressible moisture content comparable to Alaska Pollock of both grades. Protein pattern analysis also showed that PM and Alaska Pollock fish-meat gels had similar protein profiles before and after gel preparation. Therefore, P. major is suggested as a potential substitute for Alaska Pollock in fish-meat gel production.
Calli were induced from diploid and haploid tobacco after 4 weeks and maintained on MS medium with combination of 2.0 mg/L 2,4-D,0.1 mg/L BAP and 2.0 mg/L kinetin. Suspension cells were screened through 65 $\mu$m-nylon mesh and 100 $\mu$m-mesh, then they were smeared on selection medium combined with cadmium and PFP by using the low melting agarose of 0.8%. After 30days smeared cultures of the medium the cell was treated with 500 $\mu$M and 1000 $\mu$M to select the resistant cell line were selected. Plant regeneration was induced from the selected cell lines on medium with 0.5, 1.5, 2.0 mg/L BAP and on media with combination of auxin and BAP under 500 $\mu$M and 1000 $\mu$M cadmium. At this time, plant regeneration was achived on cadmium free medium. In case of haploid, occurred from the cell line which is selected in medium with cadmium and PFP. In case of diploid regeneration occurred is in the medium with cadmium alone. The plantlet regenerated from cadmium resistant calli grew well in cadmium 500 $\mu$M. Protein pattern of leaf, root, stem of regenerated plants was analyzed. The quantum was 6.5188 ug/mg.fr.wt in the leaf of plant, 5.3611 ug/mg.fr.wt in the stem, 3.0213 ug/mg.fr.wt in the root. On the other hand, 5.9652 ug/mg.fr.wt. in the leaf of control, 3.5974 ug/mg.fr.wt in the stem of the control, 4.3766 ug/mg.fr.wt. in the root of the control. The one dimension bends regenerated from cadmium resistant calli resistant to cadmium in leaf were 49 involving 198.7KD etc. Disappeared were 4 involving 160.5KD etc, The protein bends were combinized were 3 involving 83.4KD etc. The bends resistant to cadmium stress in stem were 41 involving 4.3KD etc. Disappeared were 5 involving 114.8KD etc. The protein bends combinized were 6 involving 128.7KD etc. The bends which had the resistance to cadmium stress in root is 27 in volving 166,9KD etc. The bends which disappeared were 198.7KD etc. There were 5 involving 83.4KD etc.

This study was designed to investigate the position of anteroposterior center of resistance for genuine intrusion and the mode of change of the minimum distal force for simultanous intrusion and retraction of the upper and lower incisors according to the increase of labial inclination. For this purpose, we used the three-piece intrusion arch appliance and three-dimensional finite element models of upper and lower incisors. 1. Positions of the center of resistance in upper incisors according to the increase of the labial inclination were as follows; 1) In normal inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 6m behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 2) In $10^{\circ}$ increase of the labial inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 9mm behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 3) In $20^{\circ}$ increase of the labial inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 12m behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 4) In $30^{\circ}$ increase of the labial inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 16m behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 2. Positions of the center of resistance in lower incisors according to the increase of the labial inclination were as follows; 1) In normal inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 10mm behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 2) In $10^{\circ}$ increase of the labial inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 13m behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 3) In $20^{\circ}$ increase of the labial inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 15m behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 4) In $30^{\circ}$ increase of the labial inclination situation, the center of resistance was located in 18m behind the distal surface of the lateral incisor bracket. 3. The patterns of stress distribution were as follows; 1) There were even compressive stresses In and periodontal ligament when intrusion force was applied through determined center of resistance. 2) There were gradual increase of complexity in compressive stress distribution pattern with Increase of the labial inclination when intrusion and retraction force were applied simultaneously. 4. With increase of the labial inclination of the upper and lower incisors, the position of the center of resistance moved posteriorly. And the distal force for pure intrusion was increased until $20^{\circ}$increase of the labial inclination.
This study provides quantitative constraints on Neogene uplift in the Korean peninsula using onshore paleo-shoreline records and seismic data. The eastern margin of Northeast Asia including Korea sits in the back-arc system behind the Western Pacific Subduction Zone, a complex trench triple junction of the Philippine Sea, Pacific, and Eurasian (Amurian) plates. An analysis of seismic data in the subduction zone shows that the pattern of uplift in the peninsula mirrors the extent of deep seismicity in subducting Pacific plate beneath. Combined with previous tomographic studies it is proposed that uplift is partly driven by asthenospheric upwelling caused by a sinking slab during the Neogene. In addition, the SHmax orientations of E-W and N-S trends in the peninsula are consistent with the prevailing in-situ stress fields in the eastern Eurasian continent generated by various plate boundary forces. The uplift in Korea during the Late Neogene is attributed, in part, to lithospheric failure relating to faulting movements, thus providing a link between dynamic effects of mantle upwelling at sinking slab edge and lithospheric responses driven by plate boundary forces.
This study aimed to understand the physiological status of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua at low developmental threshold temperature (LTT) through analysis of gene-expression patterns associated with different functions (metabolism, nervous system, immune, and stress). The estimated LTTs for egg, larval, and pupal developments varied with $5.5{\sim}11.6^{\circ}C$. Larvae were able to develop at the lower temperatures than eggs and pupae. However, the physiological LTT ($15^{\circ}C$) in the fifth instar was much higher than the estimated LTT ($10.3^{\circ}C$). Gene expression patterns estimated by a quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) indicate that most genes in different functional groups increased their expressions with increase of larval instars. In the same fifth instar, as the treatment temperatures increased, the gene expression levels increased. Moreover, the newly molted fifth instar larvae were different in their gene expression rates according to their previous culturing temperatures. Most gene expressions were suppressed in the fifth instar larvae at the physiological LTT ($15^{\circ}C$). However, the larvae at $15^{\circ}C$ gradually exhibited significant increase in the gene expression rates with rearing time just like those at the higher temperature. These results suggest that S. exigua at LTT exhibits a typical gene expression pattern with maintaining significantly suppressed levels.
