The plates made of two materials joined to each other having the different coefficient of thermal expansions are frequently encountered in the industrial applications. The stress analysis of these members under the effect of high-temperature variation has great importance in design. In this study, the stress analysis of the experimental model developed for the problem considered here was performed by the method of photothermoelasticity. The thermal strains were formed by the mechanical way and these were fixed by the strain freezing method. For the stress measurements, the method of slicing is applied which provides three-dimensional stress analysis. The analytical solution in the literature was compared with the related stress distribution obtained from the model. Moreover, the axisymmetric finite element model developed for the problem was solved by ABAQUS and the results obtained here compared with those of the experimental model and the analytical solution. As a result of this study, this experimental method and numerical model can be used for these type of thermal stress problems which have not been comprehensively analyzed yet.

After researching the physical properties of the concrete included Rice Husk Ash(RHA concrete) and workability of fresh concrete admixed RHA, we have tested durability of RHA-concrete against freeaing and thawing in the winter using rapid freezing and thawing test method(KS F 2456) . There aretwo hypotheses to explain the failure mechanism of a freezing and thawing action. First, the hydraulic pressure in the pores of freezing concrete make an internal stress of concrete structures outbreaking micro crack in the face of concrete, Second, Frost action causing damage to cement paste repeatedly come from soil frost action, freezing water in the capillaries. Initial Relative Dynamic Modulus of Elasticity (DME) was biggest in cae of unit binder weight 600kgf/㎥ and relative dynamic modulus of elasticity increased until 300cycles. In general , initial relative DME was proportional to unit binder weight . Relative DME was decreased in proportion to unit binder weight in the case of 300, 400, 500kgf/㎥ , but relative DME fo the others remained more than 90% until 300 cycles. It was not good effect of intermixed RHA to concrete in case of below unit binder weight 300kgf/㎥ and the resistance of freezing and thawing was not good either.
Overwintering capacity, closely related to winter hardiness, of Chinese milk vetch planted with different sowing times and sowing practices was investigated to improve the incorporation into cropping system in Korea. The tolerance to low temperature was evaluated with $LT_50$ using leaf disc leaching method. Dry weight of CMV was reduced remarkably with delayed planting from Sep. 5 to Oct. 20. The differences in tolerance to freezing temperature were not conspicuous among CMV genotypes, however, the differences between genotype (collections at different regions) were due to the plant architecture, mainly to the leaf angle. The crouching genotype collected at central region of Korean peninsula, which showed excellent freezing tolerant, has planophile leaves. The feature of internal constituents of CMV genotypes did not show any noticeable differences with respect to the freezing tolerance which evaluated by leaf disc leaching experiment. To overcome the poor overwintering capacity, tolerant genotype should be developed by selection with considering the plant architecture. The reduction of CMV growth during overwintering period was ameliorated with furrow-sowing under late-sown condition, therefore, when the CMV is inevitably sown late after recommended time, the seeds should be sown on furrow to overcome the cold stress.
There are several meterorolgical stresses in the winter cereal crops. Among these stresses, cold injury is one of the most important stresses for wheat and barley production in Korea. The reduction in grain yield of the wheat and barley due to cold injury has occurred almost every year in Korea. The objective of the study was to get the basic information in relation to the cold injury and to detect the method minimizing the damage of cold injury. When the air temperature was the ranges of -13$^{\circ}C$ to -15$^{\circ}C$, the soil temperature at the crown part of the plant was very stable, whereas in the ranges of -2$^{\circ}C$ to -3$^{\circ}C$ the soil surface temperature was more unstable and cold than air and subterranean temperatures. The different parts of the plant in wheat and barley possess the different levels of cold hardiness. In comparison to the cold hardiness of plant parts, the leaf and crown are the less sensitive to cold injury than root and vascular transitional zone. The type and extent of stress is determined by the redistribution pattern of water during freezing. These types from freezing processes were three types: a) Equilibrium freezing pattern b) Non -equilibrium freezing pattern, c) Non-equilibrium freezing pattern typical of tender tissues. Cold hardiness in wheat plants were more harder than barley plants at vegitative stage, but inverted at the reproductive stage. Injuries by low temperature during the seasons of barley cultivation in Korea were occured mainly in four stage; in the first and third stage, frost injury occurs, the second stage, freezing injury, and the fourth stage, chilling injury.

In this study, the stress distribution of rectangular bar under torsion, when warping of both ends is free or constrained, is investigated. Method of separation of variable and Fourier Series are used for the theoretical analysis, and 3dimensional photoelastic stress-freezing method for experimental analysis. The main results are as follows; 1) In the case of warping-constrained rectangular bar, the normal stresses are negligible because they are less then 0.5% of the shear stresses. The maximum normal stress is placed on the point of y=0.61 b when b/a=1 and it gradually moves to the corner y=b when the value of b/a is increased. 2) According to increase of the value of b/a, on the crossection, the maximum shear stress is placed on the middle point of the long side (x=${\pm}a$, y=0) when warping of both ends is free but the middle of the short side (x=0, y=${\pm} b$) when warping is constrained. The stress distribution is straight line when warping is constrained, namely, the stress distribution is proportional to the distance from the axis of centroid, but parabolic when warping is free. 3) The values of the combined stress of warping-constrained bar, if the influence of the loaded point is neglected, are generally smaller than those of warping-free.

For the determination of stress intensity factors, three methods have been used conventionally; the photoelastic method, the compliance method and the electrical resistance method. These methods, however, have common short coming upon experimental performance; the difficulty of cutting out sharp crack tips and arbitray crack forms similar to the practical one on the specimen. to eliminate this flaw, one of the author previously presented new methods, that is, for the determination of $K_{III}$ mode, the membrane analogy was applied and the slab analogy was used for the determination of $K_{I}$ and $K_{II}$ . The validity of this method was proved through the performance of a series of experiments of which theoretical solution are known.n.n.

Concrete structures can cause various problems as the number of common years increases when exposed to external extreme climate conditions. Among these problems, freezing and thawing occur due to the action of extreme climate factors such as heavy rain and heavy snow, which have become the most problematic in recent years. In this study, we present a rapid freezing and thawing test method of concrete in the air, referring to KS F 2456, as Seoul exhibits very dry weather during the period of freezing and thawing. Concrete test specimens and RC beams were fabricated to perform rapid freezing and thawing of 0, 100, 200, and 300 cycles, and the performance evaluation confirmed the degradation of each subject in material and member units. The design strength of 24 MPa, which performs rapid freezing and thawing in the air up to 300 cycles, decreases by 5.24 MPa (21%), and as rapid freezing and thawing in the air increases the stress burden on reinforced concrete bending members, reducing the energy absorption (dissipation) ability of structures due to earthquakes.

Most studies have conducted cryogenic triaxial compression tests with frozen specimens prepared in a separate mold by one-directional freezing. This method has the potential to generate residual stress in a frozen specimen and cannot be adopted to simulate the application of the artificial ground freezing method in the field. Therefore, in this study, novel equipment and procedure for the cryogenic triaxial compression test were proposed to overcome the limitations of existing test methods. Therefore, the mechanical characteristics of frozen sand, considering the effect of temperature and confining pressure, were evaluated. As the freezing temperature decreased, the brittleness of frozen sand increased, and the strength increased due to a decrease in the unfrozen water content and an increase in the ice strength. A higher confining pressure resulted in an increase in interparticle friction and the pressure melting phenomenon, which caused strength reduction. Thus, it was found that the mechanical behaviors of frozen sand were simultaneously affected by both temperature and confining pressure.

The study adopted a freezing prevention method of the upper deck which used heating coil, and carried out numerical analysis by using ANSYS 13.0 CFD for design guide of the vessel operating in cold region. It is based on the experimental results of the anti-icing performance tests which were carried at cold room chamber in MOERI. Numerical analysis for the design guide was performed by considering S.S.T. (Shear Stress Transport) turbulent model for flow separation effects and the turbulence which occurred in interfaces of the numerical model in order to express appropriate heat transmission phenomenon. The numerical result shows average temperature of the upper deck surface appeared similarly compared with the indoor chamber test. The design guide for optimum freezing prevention presented through heat transmission capability and interval of the heat coil in various outdoor temperature($10^{\circ}C{\sim}-30^{\circ}C$) and wind speed(1m/s~7m/s).

In this paper, glass surface-mat reinforced epoxy(G.S.R.E.) is developed, It is assured that the material(G.S.R.E.) can be used as photoelastic model material and it satisfy with the required properties of photoelastic model material. Therefore, the material can be used as model material of transparent photoelastic experiment when we analyze the stress distributions of transversely isotropic material by photoelastic experiment. When we use G.S.R.E. as photoelastic experiment model material, we had better use the G.S.R.E. which fiber volume ratio is less than 0.7% in the high temperature(stress freezing method) and than 1.74% in the room temperature. Relationships between stress fringe value and elastic modulus in transversely isotropic material are developed in this paper, it is assured by experiment that they are established in the room temperature or in the high temperature. Therefore we can obtain stress fringe value or elastic modulus from the relationships between stress fringe value and elastic modulus.
