  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of perceived parental behavior and children’s coping behaviors with parent-related problems on parent-related stress. The subjects were 234 children composed of 115 3rd-graders and 119 6th-graders elected from three elementary schools in Seoul(121 males and 113 females). Statistical techniques were means, Percentages, Scheffe test, ANOVA and Multiple Regressions. The major findings of this study were as follows : 1) There was a significant difference in parent-related stress with respect to perceived parental behavior and coping behaviors of childrens such as passive, avoidant, and aggressive coping. Perceived parental behavior and aggressive coping behavior showed significant interaction effects. When children perceived parental behavior as being less suppotive and children more aggressively coped with parent-related problems, parent-rotated stress increased in level. 2) Among perceived parental behavior and pasive, avoid, aggressive coping behavior, perceived parental behavior and passive coping behavior were significant predictors of parent-related stress. The participants were 191, $4^{th}$ and $5^{th}$ graders and their mothers from four elementary schools in Seoul and Kyung-gi province. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and hierarchical regressions. The major findings were summarized as follows: (1) Active coping strategies explained boys' aggressive behaviors, (2) mother's warm-encouragement parenting behaviors and active coping strategies explained boys' delinquent behaviors, (3) mother's warm-encouragement parenting behaviors explained boys' withdrawn behaviors, and (4) mother's mediation-supervision parenting behaviors and negative emotionality explained girls' aggressive behaviors. In conclusion, maternal parenting behaviors, children's emotional regulation and stress coping strategies have gender-specific influence on children's behavioral problems.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress level, coping behaviors and health problems of elementary school children and to compare the level of these three variables according to size of city of residence and to identify the relationship among the three variables. Method: Data were collected by questionnaire from 465 5th and 6th grade elementary school children living in Daegu and North Kyungsang Province. Data were collected between December 1 and 20, 2003 and analyzed using the SPSS program with means, standard deviation, t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The stress level was significantly higher in children who lived in the big city. The coping behavior score was not significantly different according to size of city, nor was there a difference in the health problems according to size of city. There was a positive correlation among stress level, coping behaviors and health problems. Conclusion: In general, the stress level was significantly different but coping behavior scores and health problem scores were not significantly different according to size of city. Also the elementary school children used more passive coping behavior than active coping behavior. Therefore, strategies to develop active coping behaviors for these children are needed.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between internet addiction and stress coping behaviors among the 5th․6th graders Methods : there were 609 5th․6th graders from 13 school located in Jeongeup city and the data were collected from June 1-10, 2004. Research instrument to test internet addiction was 4-points summated scale composed of 20-items and the instrument to examine stress coping behaviors was also 4-points summated scale composed of 30-items. The data was analyzed by frequency, percentage, χ2-test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression analysis using SPSS/PC 10.0. Results : The results were as follows: 1.The degree of internet addiction were 2.4% of addiction, 36.5% of addiction tendency and 61.1% of non-addiction. 2. In the relation between the degree of internet addiction and subscale stress coping behaviors, Internet addiction had significant positive correlation to the passive-avoiding coping (r= .202, p= .000) and aggressive coping(r= .233, p= .000). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of internet addiction was passive-avoiding coping. Aggressive coping and active coping had significant effects on internet addiction. These predictive variables of internet addiction explained 10.2% of variance. Conclusion : From the above findings, the authors concluded that it is necessary to develop a program for prevention of the internet addiction and education of stress coping behaviors can be recommended for prevention of the internet addiction.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among perceived stress, ways of coping, and health promoting behaviors in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease(CCVD). Method: Data was collected by questionnaires from 436 patients with CCVD in a General Hospital in Seoul. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: The health promoting behavior showed a significant positive correlation with self-efficacy and social support. Also, the health promoting behavior showed a significant negative correlation with perceived stress and symptoms of stress. The stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of health promoting behaviors was symptoms of stress. Conclusion: A combination of symptoms of stress, social support, self-efficacy, and perceived stress account for 41% of the variance in health promoting behaviors of patients with CCVD. Data from this study suggest that symptoms of stress, social support, ways of coping, and perceived stress are significant influencing factors on health promoting behaviors of patients with CCVD.

  • Stress affects the type of adaptation required for each case and the type of social support is also different. In order for social support to have a buffer effect on stress, we want to understand how to measure social support and support according to specific stress situations. Therefore, this study examines coping behaviors of community service workers exposed to these job stresses and examines the effect of support system (family support, peer support, superior support) on coping behavior. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of stress, coping resources and coping behaviors of community service workers. In this study, self - report method was used to investigate the questionnaire using structured questionnaires. In this study, the statistical program was used for data analysis and hierarchical regression analysis.
